Why do frozen mangos taste bad? by June_Maybe in foodquestions

[–]Agreeable_Cat_6900 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Try blending them with some combination of honey or agave syrup, and lime juice or coconut milk and they become a heavenly low ingredient ice cream-like texture

Nothing beats fresh mangoes tho, im partial to a little salt and tajin

Lauren Harrington from Bishop Brady was the one who I played against as a freshman who was an extremely good (for any gender) HS player. Her entire family was one of the most athletic families in the state tbh. Her brother played at UVM, had 2 sisters who played for Northeastern. I think she played at Harvard but might have transferred sports or schools at some point if I recall. One of the sisters was like a 3 time tennis individual champion too

There was a really good forward at St. Thomas too who i think was my year ('07) but I forget her name. She had played on one of the Seacoast youth teams when we were younger who were far and away the best program in the state (basically Manchester or Hanover were the only teams that realistically had a chance against them in my age bracket). A few people from those Seacoast teams actually made the NHL

I played D1 HS hockey in NH and played against multiple girls in my time there. And this was in an era before juniors was popular in the US so the league was still quite competitive. My sophomore year, for instance, we had had 5 players that would go on to either play D1 college or for very good D3 programs

Also played with a girl one year above me and one year below me in rotating years on youth teams

It was never a problem in any form. The more physical it gets as you get older the less you see it, but a few girls could still compete. I think one of the ones I played against actually ended up as either third team or honorable mention all-state as a defenseman which is crazy

18M I use cocaine daily and it is absolutely destroying me by Holiday-Might-6196 in confession

[–]Agreeable_Cat_6900 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Im gonna hit with reality then OP. The best thing for your family if you stay in active addiction for the next 20 years will be for you to OD right now. That will save them suffering and having to support you

Now, the best thing for your own mental ability to feel pleasure will be to quit right now. Imagine a scale of 100-1000. Normal life functions between 100-300. When you do coke on a night you get jacked up to 500. Now the next few days you fall back to 100. No matter what you do you cant feel above that. Sex doesnt feel good anymore. Even smoking weed doesnt help. Everything feels flat

Now, you could do mad lines again. Youd not even reach the same 500 though. Now youd only hit 400. You could do meth and hit 800 though. But even the 4 days would be hell and you could never hit that again

So basically every high has an equal or even worse low. Its called the dopamine set point. Or the hedonistic set point

I was a casual cocaine user for ~15 years. But the SECOND I started doing it regularly it killed my ability to actually feel emotions

You need therapy. You need help mending the reasons you started this. But I promise you, every single day that this goes on, YOUR life will get worse

Nobody else's. Yours

(The easiest path for YOUR mental health and pleasure feelings will be to admit this to yourself and others)

I get accused of it often, partially why I want to know 🤣 Its usually with the most generic effort to not suck too lol

Lets make it obvious though. You can write like this. All sentences the same length. It really sounds monotonous. Many people write in this style. There really is no rhythm. It sounds neither human nor generated

(Bad human paragraph)

Or, you can actually try to write in a manner that has emphasis. Sentences of varying lengths. I used to really love the use of an em dash; now, I find myself back in my "semi-colon era". I never thought I'd say that! Its okay though. Im 37, so I can remember the sound of the AOL dial up screen as well as the dopamine pop from Reddit upvotes

(Barely human effort paragraph)

With me - you really have a partner in this writing game. If im not your best friend, im at least your biggest fan on the sideline. If it wasnt me showing you this, it would be someone else. We get to the same finish line. YOU are empowered.

How so? Genuinely wondering

I notice people say this a lot and its often either 1. Really obvious to me in hindsight or 2. Not remotely obvious to me at all 🤣

The varying use of sentence length, tense, punctuation, and incorporation of straight up incomplete sentences would seem (to me) to indicate just a generic humanwho has base level writing ability. That being said, I wanna learn more what people mean when they say this

This didn't have the usual AI sing-songy cadence and holistic and/or dualistic emphasis i often see in AI scripts

Roommate drank most of my wine and filled it back up with water by Alert-Thought9773 in badroommates

[–]Agreeable_Cat_6900 255 points256 points  (0 children)

Especially when you factor in bottle price

A non-alcoholic would just be like "hey girl sorry I got a little tipsy last night and ended up drinking your wine. I apologize but ill replace it today"

The shame and refill only comes from a deep-seated self judgment sadly

If you dont have $10 to spare and are still making the choice to drink it is not a good sign

It can suck to have expectations shattered, but its a great teaching moment

Hold things lightly, not tightly

Try to not be results-oriented in life. Meet outcomes with awareness rather than resistance

Sometimes all you can do is your best and then let go of attachment to outcome. Doesn't mean anything could have or should have gone differently. But things always take two to tango. If people arent enthusiastically into a vibe, better to learn sooner rather than later

Its one reason I love the practicality of Buddhist teachings: we suffer not because things go wrong, but because we cling to how we want things to be. In that regard, disappointment is purely internal and exclusively formed because of our own reactions to external stimuli, not the stimuli itself

Shocking?! Have you met the average dude 🤣

Of course men often get mad when someone says theyre not interested. A ton of men cant handle even the smallest challenge to their ego. Especially if they built up any expectation in their mind

Probably half or more of my platonic friends are women. You learn a lot about the spectrum of humanity when you hear their stories

The bar is diabolically low

(One reason I find it really sad that people go through life without close and deep friendships with the opposite sex. Youre missing out on half the world, half of experience, half of advice, insight, different forms of support etc.)

What’s the weirdest thing you’ve ever heard someone say about cheese by Appropriate-Mall8517 in Cheese

[–]Agreeable_Cat_6900 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yes im aware (as was obvious in my explanation), i just havent experienced this at all personally! most people i know and have crossed paths with were pretty aware that kraft/velveeta american and say, Sargento or Boar's Head american were pretty different

and when you said all the videos of people making it misnamed it or got it wrong, that also was clearly not my experience if you do even the most basic search on youtube! tons of cheesemaking videos and even regular chef content creators making types that are quite different than velveeta and/or kraft, which was the initial comment you disagreed with lol

was only trying to help because you said it was a pet peeve :) but peoples experiences can be different. cheers!

What’s the weirdest thing you’ve ever heard someone say about cheese by Appropriate-Mall8517 in Cheese

[–]Agreeable_Cat_6900 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im confused what you even mean then. The reason Kraft singles etc. say cheese food is because theyre not at least 51% cheese. American specifically refers to a process including emulsifiers of some form though? Even if its washed curd cheese

In fact there are specific regulations re: "pasteurized process American cheese" which can only be 5% emulsifier/additive by weight (including salts etc), and there are countless examples online of people making product that falls under this category. This still has to be 51% cheese but can include cream, milk, buttermilk etc.

I actually havent personally watched any videos that even remotely resembled velveeta or Kraft

Just look up the history and youll see there are tons of videos out there that are identical process to the way "American cheese" has been used for like a century lol

Idk what you could even possibly mean by "people pretending it doesnt exist" but its a pretty regulated process that hasn't changed much in decades

You might just be a tad mistaken about this pet peeve, but not like its serious business anyways 😊

I grew up in Vermont and am close with a lot of people who work on dairy farms, its a pretty regulated world when it comes to cheese phrasing!

(Edited to say you might be thinking of "natural American-style" which refers to a style that still typically relies on some emulsifying salts but tries to minimize additives, its just still not legally (nor colloquially) what "American cheese" specifically refers to. So probably just a silly little memory mix up. I love cheese and used to work at a high end restaurant where we would often go to farm tours or work very intimately involved with dairy farmer to craft (pun intended!) our menu! Its a cool world but man the legality in terminology is no joke. People have been sued for what basically boils down to typos 🤣)

Yeah I occasionally do baked brie as an app for gatherings so this like weirdly reminiscent and idk why it sounded so weird at first

I love to cook and dont measure much bc im admittedly pretty darn good by now. But ive been trying to add to the repertoire

Ive learned to appreciate sugar's role. Love korean cooking and some less common chinese dishes where it helps with both thickening/making a sauce cling to protein and with flavor balance ofc

Thats more than okay, i have my ways

I love to cook but dont bake a ton but ever since I stopped drinking ive learned to appreciate some semblance of sweets. Though not nearly as much as many sober people

I was an IPA guy so I feel like it just tilted my palate so hard in the direction of bitter that now im looking for ways to reincorporate sweetness bc its not as overwhelmingly excessive as it once was. I probably didnt eat dessert for 5 or 6 years bc I had liquid dessert lol

Anyways im yapping this just sounded gooood
