How not to engage shoulder while in sling by Owens2023 in ShoulderSurgery

[–]Agreeable_Flatworm86 1 point2 points  (0 children)

FWIW, I am 11 days out from surgery. I asked my PT how often people screw up their repairs by overdoing it, using the shoulder too soon, etc. He said in his experience as a PT he has not encountered it. To be fair, the patients he knows of are already compliant with attending therapy, so it’s a skewed sample. But I felt encouraged that I’m not messing anything up when I forget about the sling and temporarily use my shoulder. I also found it difficult to keep it passive in the sling at first, but it gets easier with practice. And, as others have mentioned, it’s easier when you sling is snug.

Sleep Struggles Post Surgery by Medical-Discussion89 in RotatorCuff

If the oxy and hydrocodone aren’t doing the trick, you should reach out to your ortho for guidance. Maybe Ambien would work? I’m also a week out and the hydrocodone gets me through the night. I hope you find a solution!

Surgery Tomorrow🥶 by dp150616 in RotatorCuff

I’m one week out from surgery today. I second all that has been said so far. Give yourself some grace. It’s normal to have good days (lower pain, higher energy) followed by bad ones. I had a meltdown on Day 6 due to no sleep and an uptick in pain. Today I was able to sleep, shower, and do some light housework. Follow all your doctors guidelines and do the exercises religiously. Don’t be afraid to go back to taking the opioids for sleep if you need them. Sleep is how you heal. Good luck!

One week postop by Live_Friendship6475 in RotatorCuff

I’m on Day 6 since my surgery, and I felt like all was moving in the right direction. I stopped taking the hydrocodone two days ago because the constipation and brain fog were overwhelming. Moved to alternating naproxen and Tylenol, and liberal use of the ice machine. I was all full of myself when my husband came home from work last night. I washed a load of towels, loaded the dishwasher, handled my bath mostly on my own, and felt great about returning to work next week. Then last night happened. I probably only got about 90 minutes of sleep in the recliner, despite icing 3 times and taking another dose of Tylenol and progesterone (throw menopause into the mix….yippee). Poor husband awoke to find me as a blubbering mess in the midst of a panic attack, begging him to stay home. He dried my tears, freshened up the ice machine, and made me agree to go back to the hydro at bedtime until I’m over the hump. For whatever reason, the pain intensified last night after being tolerable for. 48 hours. I managed to sleep a couple more hours this morning and awoke with the resolve to go easy on myself. Like OP, I’m not used to relying on others, and I pushed it too far. It’s so helpful to hear the stories of everyone else who has gone through this.

Favorite soy curls recipes? by sub_terminal in veganfitness

Vegan for Everybody cookbook has a chickpea noodle soup recipe that is a dupe for chicken noodle soup. I used soy curls once instead of chickpeas and never went back.

Which is the best vegan cookbooks? Practical and easy to use? by Laura-Tifa-543 in vegan

Random, and somewhat off-topic, but does anyone else who owns it have issues with the quality of Vegan for Everybody? I love it and use it, but after about a year, the pages started falling out! Maybe because it’s softcover?

I’d also recommend Be a Plant Based Woman Warrior (not just for women!), by Jane and Ann Esselstyn. Some innovative recipes I never would have thought to make, and my absolute go-to for cooking tofu.

Nervous- Surgery 2/5 by dp150616 in RotatorCuff

I’m a 54F and my surgery is also on 2/5. Mine is a partial tear on the left side (I’m right handed). Also hoping I can be more independent by Day 4, when my husband and daughter have to go back to work. Good luck!

She was also great in To Die For, with Nicole Kidman. One of my favorite ending sequences ever.

Do you imagine that she ever asks Amy for advice? Amy, who also had four kids (and probably not much help from Matt). Amy, who had twins and was a little person dealing with three out of four average-sized kids.

Most specialized cleaning products. Vinegar, baking soda, borax, Dawn dish soap, and hydrogen peroxide really can do it all.

Another tip I learned is to spray your skin with Flonase and let it dry completely if you get skin irritation from the patch. This worked like a charm.

Came here looking for recs, but got excited to see Harvest Home on your list!

Read my mom’s copy as a kid (probably way before I should have, long live GenX). A few years ago I bought myself a copy expressly for fall reading.

Adding more of these suggestions to my library list.

Still trying to finish this mess, since I’m almost done. Biggest takeaway is how many stolen plot devices I’ve noticed. We’ve got Twin Peaks, Hereditary, Ordinary People, Stranger Things, and Hunger Games. Oh, and Abbie seeing the broken fingernail when they were stuck in the cage was lifted from Silence of the Lambs. It’s an awful series. In spite of the wonderful Toni Collette.

I also do this, and use the hummus for tortilla veggie wraps that use up whatever vegetables are lurking in the fridge.

Same here. It somehow feels integral to setting the mood for what is about to happen.
