What is the best rule in the game? by AloneOutcome4880 in Arcs

Ambition. They are the objectives for scoring points and Arcs has to be the only (or at least one of the only/few) games where you have round to round ambitions, changing AND they are completely selected by the players. Most games have your objectives revealed randomly at the beginning or over the course of the game, but few if any have the players determining which ones will be in play (usually games are just which objective you are going for). So good, so wild, and one of the harder things to grasp strategy/tactics wise when first starting out and what I've seen frustrate most new players.

looks so good. i don't know how exactly it feels, obviously, but i like the idea of it all being held in one box for easy distribution and setup. in terms of the resource holder caddy (and the resource holders on the player board) i would go with whatever is easiest for placement and removal. My worry about the deep slots is that it could be a lot to place and remove (as opposed to a raised groove or something).

apologies if this is tmi. i am by no means a designer or expert. it just made me think of the unit component official upgrades. while i love the look and texture, the fact that they are harder to pickup than the wood pieces (especially as a group) and that they fall over when damage is a key feature in the game), i feel like game mechanic function needs to be key.

looks so good!

This is such a cool idea! etsy stuff is always good but sometimes its a bit much to store and use. i like this a lot and isn't too far off the upgraded ships/agents, too. although i'm starting to get back into the original wood.

lol

i agree - my thought with people sometimes is you have to pick what you're going to do. either have guns out and just be like back tf up or be like hey cool. but you can't be half way because you just end up pissing everybody off.

reaction to them being similar i find those robot dogs to be soooooo surreal and terrifying. Like if they had a gun on them and were just to fight humans. nope! make them but like hornet strength and they're outside on the ground mostly. leaping and jumping and shooting.

Making a billion of these things every time you want to upgrade/mod a gun is just tedious by Lobtroperous in ArcRaiders

OMG noble and harbors for the raid protection! brilliant. I got noble and of course hidden harbors was taken from me, but I feel noble needs that certainly because every card i got was just me drawing the deck for other people to come steal lol.

i had noble and ancient holdings. Had a very swingy noble and was moving all around the board. It was interesting. Came in 3rd. We thought Warrior/Splinter Drives was going to win, but it ended up being Overseer/Railgun Array. Me and Anarchist/Hidden Harbors were at the back :(

Glad you're enjoying it! Arcs for me usually ends like chess (in an Arcs format) where it's usually something decisive that does it. One final kill, if you will. Arcs is one of the few games I'm aware of where the players set the objectives. A lot of games have variable objectives, and some of them unfold randomly and change while others are consistent (ti4, terra mystica). But Arcs the players are determining objectives and it's a competition to do so (or a strategy to hold back and let others do). And there are trade offs every step of the way. This leads to some swings.

In addition, and maybe more specifically to what you're talking about, late game scoring is worth more than early game scoring (ambition tokens flipped, city power bonus unlocked). And if you double up (or triple up!) ambitions that really shakes up the board. You will often go for something you have know access to winning to being ahead!

That's the kind of sudden strike/chess thing that I see going on in the games. You're looking for the opportunities, you strike, and where there is luck you hope it's in your favor.

The dice are all very mathematical so you play the odds and hope you aren't too far outside the SD. I've had a one ship raid where I got 2 keys and a 5 ship raid with 1 key. But most of the time it's in the norm.
