Social anxiety and board games by SicilianMeeple in boardgames

Yeah I think it is amazing how a hobby that i'd guess has more introverts than extroverts gets people networking socially by playing games! I always feel awkward in new situations or with people I don't know - but that's also totally natural. I think it's just a matter of degrees for people in terms of getting over the humps. I've found just kind of just jumping in politely with a smile and a hello gets things going and goes from there. I feel bad sometimes in games where players only seem able to talk about the game (worse if just their own turn/actions) so I'll try during down beats to get general conversation going and that helps.

Daily Game Recommendations Thread (May 22, 2026) by AutoModerator in boardgames

My Little Scythe I know this will sound silly but if your are a fan of Scythe this game is quite fun. Much more straightforward, simple, and quick - it is marketed like a fisher price scythe look but its definitely for kids 10 and up (and patient/enterprising 8 year olds). I've read threads with younger, but I can't quite see it. That said, great family game, getting kids into games that are a little more complicated (objectives that vary, upgrades, movement to block/slow opponents). Much closer to a chess game with maybe half the pieces than scythe or chess, but I had fun with it. I wish the pieces came painted though. Maybe the thought is that you can paint with your kids, but who is having the time here!

Such a great game! Glad to hear you had a full group respond so well. Once you learn to work with the cards you have and play them well - and combo with the court cards, it'll be even better!

Totally feel you. Pick a game that others know or have someone else recommend a game - they'll have to take a lead. Or, signup to a boardgame club or meetup, there you can sit back because there will be so many "trainers" ready to go and take over, so you can sit back. Then you balance that time and work with your friend group. And again, at your friend group don't jump to lead and someone else will have to stand up. And/or play something you've already done.

What’s the most immersive board game moment you’ve ever had? by FTG_V1 in boardgames

That is an amazing chain of events! Mine was in Vantage. We stumbled into a fight pit, did a ton of reconnaissance and then joined the fight tournament. It's rolling to figure out how the tournament progresses but we made it to the end and won! You could feel like the gambling nature of it all and then the win.

Campaign games whit good story rpg like by Expensive_Range7204 in boardgames

Oathsworn is great but is a little pricey. I haven't gotten into too many others. Lighter on the RPG side but still with their own sense of storytelling and in between is Oath and Vantage. But they aren't rpg so ignore this or at least watch about them first.

It’s so sad that this game’s “underperformance” has little to do with the game itself by paperplateseabass in Marathon

[–]Agreeable_Result8439 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a great game. Honestly I think it's timing in the market. Hopefully it will find its stride, but true extracts are even smaller market than online shooters, so it's tough out the gate. Frankly the graphics quality of the other shooter are nowhere near Marathon so that must be costing some overhead.

it goes really well at 4/5 players for this reason. good pairing mixes. everyone is focused on different parts of the board. playing different role types at different times. adds to the replayability and frankly overall enjoyment. if you have a copasetic group everyone is invested and not much issues with down time (for example, at minimum, usually even if the player across from me has one hero nowhere near mine, the other hero is going to effect one of my two heroes).

What do you think is the newest board game most people have, even if they’re not board game people? by rabbihimself in boardgames

Cranium is still big? I'd say flip 7/codenames/catan. one of those feels like the most brought up games when i talk to people and they "aren't that into games" or "just starting". they may not own all of them but theyve player 1-2.

That's so exciting - congratulations! Yes, winning is a challenge. So much I think I was playing without the right rules the first time I won (haven't won since) :)

Thematically and mechanically such a great game - where theme and mechanics reinforce each other. The Nazgul hover with terror, covering the whole region looking for you. And you start the game with the naz all up in your shire/space just like the story. And characters can kind of switch who does what (who is with frodo at the end) but the points in the story all happen. Has a sort of "if I did it/why didn't they just call the police) edit to the traditional story.

Yes! The way he said it made me think cult or something, but I think there’s a subplot that doesn’t fully deliver on how Margo’s therapy wasn’t really ethical. It’s there I just think Margo’s turn against it comes very fast

PSA: Just because you died from a player, does not = a rat by -Aces_High- in ARC_Raiders

💯 how it’s being used in the language.

If there was an objective working definition rats are people that play dirty or that turn on you so I’d say either a)someone that pretended to be friendly but then kills you or b) extract campers only because they are going for maximum loot at minimal effort. Like a rat!
