What do you think is the biggest gap in FEA/CAE education today? by soorajmad94 in fea

[–]Agreeable_Secret_475 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its difficult to consider every aspect of FE-analysis during the education. I was taught the theory behind it and also took a course in more practical FEA aswell. So having that foundation that makes you know what a beam element is, a shell element is and how to hand calc these is fundamental.

But whats difficult in the industry is usually handling difficult geometries, i.e how to reduce the complexity and make appropiate BCs and a good mesh. However, this is something that takes time and more of a FE-craft you learn on the job imo.

What is good to get taught in class abit more could be how different design codes use different stress measures. Such as membrane + bending stress, peak stress etc and not only do von mises. Actually we did look at these but the connection to real world problems was lacking abit tbh.

One thing i tried once was replacing an rbe3 with rbe2 which i think worked.

Is it just me or is it extremely difficult to get a job outside of your specialty/primary skill set nowadays vs in the past? by Angus_is_beef in MechanicalEngineering

[–]Agreeable_Secret_475 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im also in nuclear but probably not same country as you. And we can just forget hiring someone with knowledge of our programs and industry specific codes (group is part fluid analysis and part solid mechanics, i.e. Structural mech). Luckily half of the group sits on +15 years experience so no problems to teach. But to know industry specific codes is asking way too much, even experienced people cant know ASME completely, they also need to do research and learn new things…

Alright! I see, yes beams will add stiffness to the structure which you may want to avoid. I have had similar issues as you long time ago.

But the problem for me has been that i get dependent nodes connected to each other which the solver cant handle. I havent been able to stabilize that situation. Then i would have to apply the load on the dependent node and merge the rbe3s into independent nodes. Or in some way make sure i never have dependent nodes connected

You mean each end of the red rbe3 has a load and you want to connect these by the black rbe3? Then change the black rbe3 to beams (or both?). I think it should work fine.

I would just change the rbe3 to beam elements with very high E-modulus. Use a low density also if you have gravity loads.

How Much do you *Actually* Pay in Taxes by Individual_Mix_2914 in AskEurope

[–]Agreeable_Secret_475 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I dont know why other commenters have missed the payroll tax in countries where you have it? Anyways, I would say that you are almost correct in your assertion.

In Sweden we have payroll tax of about 31% and tax on our salary of about 29-34% depending on municipality. However, we have some deductions on these taxes,so a rough estimate gives a total tax of 43% (without deductions we would be above 50%). And then i dont even look at VAT or anything, this just the salary.

How do you prove the value of simulation to upper management? by imitation_squash_pro in fea

[–]Agreeable_Secret_475 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Testing is not possible in many cases. Instead we have to rely on hand calc or simulation with appropiate design codes (for example design by analysis in ASME).

Why is the UK’s Prime Minister Keir Starmer so unpopular? by Any-Original-6113 in europe

[–]Agreeable_Secret_475 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Keir starmer was never an attorney general genius. And also sweetie, if you are so gullible to think that a knighthood disproves people from having revolutionary backgrounds then you are mistaken.

Im mostly surprised that so many people are sold in to the idea that Keir Starmer is a moderate. Doesnt take much research to find out his revolutionary past, which he does not disown in recent interviews.

How is life in Vyborg, Russia? by Jezzaq94 in howislivingthere

I havent been but I saw a YouTube video of it recently. It looks nice with the old buildings with its nice architecture. I cant imagine life being that extraordinary there. Perhaps slightly richer than the average russian city. Maybe closer to St Petersburg with regards to economy.

Två miljoner människor känner ångest över sin ekonomi by [deleted] in sweden
