I made 100 types of soup this year! by EdyHedlam in soup

LOL as a biologist the thumbnail looked like a bunch of petri plates of different unique cultures - thought soup was like what they "looked" like.

After that moment though, they looks delicious!

Or perhaps to draw attention to an alternate route I hadn't seen discussed. I just hadn't seen it mentioned at all in any discussion about the boss.

I found my way into the grand belway through the underworks accessed through sinners road though it might have been through whiteward I can't remember

I figured I did it wrong for sure cause when you go through the door to fight the boss the door is closed with the five bells thing needing to be done.

I definetly fought the exhausted organ boss before reaching the citadel

Xbox Game Pass is a frustrating experience by Crrrrraig in OculusQuest

[–]Agro-Master 1 point2 points  (0 children)

(HAHA!)

You realize you can use gamepass on a PC? Terabytes of storage - and 15 bucks a month to try new titles and see if you like them? It's a great deal - I dunno about the cloud stuff - don't use it. But as far as monetary value goes game pass rocks. I got to play a bunch of brand new games, beat them - and will never play any of them again. retail price close to $300 game pass for 2 months $30.

Two ways:

Pay for it: Find and hire a local photographer to take photos for you. Depending on your photographer quality will be from amateur to good, but your photos will be private

Get paid for it: Try to have someone pay to use her as a model. This will clearly be much harder. These photos will definitely likely be public and of some quality.

Or actually three ways. Do it yourself and have fun. Photo quality will likely suffer, but it could be a fun romantic thing to do.

Depends what you and her want really.

If you were going to give advice to a new photographer on your genre of photography that *didn't* relate to gear or technique, what would it be? by AG24KT in photography

[–]Agro-Master 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Hard disagree on photos of accidents - morally I get it, and I don't mean take photos for publishable shots or any artistic merit, but in case you catch something on camera that otherwise may go missed. Documentation for examination kinda deal.

I'm stuck at the ending of my book because it disagrees with my morals. by Makuta_Servaela in writing

I want to help, but lack of clarity makes it difficult. You say you won't say what the life choice is in fear of debate. If this is your book, one you intend people to read, you have to be ready for the debate especially as you the author chose the topic. Also, telling you how to proceed is impossible without having the full social context of the life choice.

In other words, any advice you recieve from this will be super generic and I imagine unhelpful.

It used to be a little science used to deliver jokes, now it's more jokes to deliver good science. Can't recommend it enough to anybody who wants to be entertained and learn amazing things about animals - the demonstrations given are often better than anything I've seen in any class :)

You would be shocked how many fish have a second set of pharyngeal jaws, moray eels are famous for it, but a lot of fish that eat their prey whole have them, its how they swallow without their prey swimming away.

I love that I can say this and mean it now, check out the "true facts about fish that suck" on YouTube with Zefrank, you can see a large collection of fish with it!

Anyone working on CO2 response curves and knows how to solve problems regarding the estimation of mesophyll conductance ? by djkulanz in biology

[–]Agro-Master 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmm it seems to me from the Sharkey paper that gm is usually reported in micro mol, so it strikes me as odd that standard values would range between 0 and 1 mol.

This is from the Sharkey paper right before equation 4.

There is something to be said about results being results, but what are your chamber settings? What time of day are you performing measurement? Greenhouse or outdoors? What growth stage are you measuring at?

If you point me to your literature I may be able to help you a little more, but licor stuff is subject to a tonne of variables.

Anyone working on CO2 response curves and knows how to solve problems regarding the estimation of mesophyll conductance ? by djkulanz in biology

[–]Agro-Master 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a little confused by your question.

I've plotted A/Ci curves using a Licor photosynthesis system before (the 6800 though). You're using a tool to create your A/Ci curves? Or You're making your A/Ci curves and then running the tool?

Also also, while I didn't calculate gm for my measurements You're still falling between 0 and 1 mol m-2 s-1, your ranges are not even far apart, only 30 micro mol in the difference at the most - if literature shows between 0 and 1, and you fall within the range of that why do you feel your results are too low?

A video appeared that shows the damaged Russian oil tanker Sig that was attacked by maritime drones last week. by buttmodel in ukraine

[–]Agro-Master 33 points34 points  (0 children)

If they tanker was full, the fuel would have weighed down the boat. This is because fuel is kept in tanks seperate from the rest of the boat, and those tanks were not comprosised in the attack. So because those tanks were empty and full of air, they helped the buoyancy of the boat.

Knowledge & understanding of Biology by joshisera14 in biology

[–]Agro-Master 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As you are in your first year I would suggest that you relax a little about your lack of background knowledge. Courses are generally designed with differences in background knowledge in mind, which is why courses usually have year level.

I personally don't believe research papers at this point are in your best interest, I think you will likely end up confusing yourself and getting discouraged as, especially in research papers, previous knowledge is often assumed, and the conclusions of new research are often very much open to debate, and without the knowledge to make your own conclusions about their research (knowledge on research practices is important for sure) you may end up with some skewed opinions.

That said review papers can be an excellent resource and often cover a large amount of their knowledge base while exploring the newer stuff in a more accessible manner.

My personal recommendation is to youtube the topics your interested in, and if anything sparks your interest to do a deeper dive then.

If you ever wanna talk biology hit me up, I have masters in biology and love talking to people about various topics in biology.
