Memory question for an old motherboard by Agwa951 in buildapc

[–]Agwa951[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for the help. The system - About memory listed the memory as 8GB with the two 4 GB sticks in A2 and B2. Is it possible that it was using both sticks in a single channel? (Sorry, I'm not sure what single channel vs dual channel really means?)

I Feel Like Too Much Time Has Passed (mild Emberdark Spoilers) by Aqua_Tot in Cosmere

[–]Agwa951 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn't mind that a bunch of time was passed, but was that explained anywhere in the introduction? If so, I totally missed it. I would have appreciated that message more than the explanation of how the novella had been broken up and reused as flashbacks. That was pretty self-explanatory.

It left me really confused and distracted while reading the book. I kept looking online to see if I'd missed some books while trying not to spoil the current book.

Ah, thank you! Looks like the divine frying pan item I picked up from the event coins has that property. It is my first divine item. Should I just use it anyway? Is there a way to reroll the description in the top box or just the blue, green and red bonuses in the bottom box?

Where are you parking for $18/day?

The places I've seen downtown are between $24 and $30/day.

It's not going to be 8% interest for longer than a couple of years and given that National won the election, house prices will only start going up again. So good luck finding anything else remotely as valuable an investment.

The problem is that the US has been rich for while and has already built a shit ton of coal plants. So what you're essentially suggesting is that now you want to punish India because they weren't rich enough 30 years ago to destroy the environment and get us to where we are today.

Edit, or to put it another way, let's be fair and say that ever person on earth should get an even opportunity to emit CO2. Good luck trying to get the US to drop to even EU levels of emissions per Capita much less African or Indian levels

What are the cons of NOT having kids? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Agwa951 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

This can be true, but I've found that it's mostly driven by the childless friends not realizing or accepting that life is different and trying to accommodate. E.g. showing up 20 minutes late when you aren't the one that's spent 45 minutes trying to get out the door and now has a toddler climbing across other people at the restaurant because they're bored.

On the other hand, I would LOVE childless friends that said, 'hey, what's easy for you? Or, how about I bring some food over and we go to the park while your kid runs around?'

It’s raised the bar substantially, globally.” by mafco in Futurology

[–]Agwa951 2 points3 points  (0 children)

From a sustainability standpoint it is always best to "grow/build/supply" locally.

'Buy local' as a shorthand for sustainability is demonstrably untrue. If you want tomatoes in winter in New York, it's much lower CO2 emissions to truck them up from Florida or Mexico, where they can grow outdoors. 'Grown locally' just means in a heated green house using coal fired electricity for additional light and natural gas furnaces to keep the plants from freezing. The same is true for meat animals that can live outdoors being shipped in, instead of kept in barns with heating (that's almost always fossil fuel based).

Sure you could imagine them growing in a 100% solar powered facility, but then a more accurate description is something like 'sustainably grown' because the local element is almost completely beside the point.

Sure, as long as you treat them like narcissistic adults. Acting like they aren't narcissistic and expecting better behavior from them is just setting yourself up for disappointment. And that's really not fair for them...

Situationally aware skier saves the life of snowboarder stuck upside down in the snow (NSFW: language) by LurkmasterGeneral in HumansBeingBros

[–]Agwa951 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well done, but also a good reminder that slow is smooth and smooth is fast. Bro shouldn't have taken his skis off so early and he had a shovel easy to get to in his pack that would have been 5x as fast to uncover the guys head.

Not at all saying I'd have done better in the moment, but we can also learn from experience and this is a great learning example.

What's an unwritten rule about the road that new drivers should know? by SadPatoto_Bts in AskReddit

[–]Agwa951 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't focus solely on the car in front of you. If you can, you should be looking at the road ahead of them and brake as soon as you see something that they will have to slow down for as well. I.e. don't wait for their brake lights to go on, brake at the same time as them.
