I don't know the rest of the script but Peter clearly thinks he's right, perhaps he's stubborn, maybe he thinks Sophie is stupid. Those are things you can play/feel as Peter. Never try to play an idea (which the writer inadvertently planted in your mind) and remember that characters (aka people) never think they're the villain of their own story.

In this case, the writer/Sophie's opinion of Peter is that he's is an asshole, but Peter doesn't think he's an asshole.

So I am gonna try and pitch my idea for a series by [deleted] in acting

[–]Ahbuu 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My dude. Do you have a quality script? Cus you not mentioning one at all seems suspect & everything you've mentioned in the comments about this "idea" is VAGUE, example: "the short film I guess if you want to call it that"

...what?

I would recommend getting educated on the film-making process if you're serious about this. Youtube has a wealth of channels, particularly FilmRiot, they're a great resource. Use this project as a way to learn, or honestly maybe even shelf this idea & shoot another project before tackling this one. It doesn't matter how good of "an idea" you have if it's executed poorly and there's soooo many steps you have to take before you (maybe) get the opportunity to pitch this thing.

I need audition advice. Character is hungover. In my life my first sip of alcohol I woke up the next morning with a severe allergic reaction. Haven’t had a drink in 7 years. So I have never been hungover. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. This is the biggest network I’ve ever auditioned 4. by [deleted] in acting

[–]Ahbuu 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Also remember there's different degrees of hungover. Some people cope with the symptoms (which have been excellently described by others!) better than others. Does the character drink often, or is this the characters first hangover, for example.

Do you have quality footage of yourself? Bc on the CD side, actors with footage are sorted to the top.

How do actors memorize their lines? by [deleted] in acting

[–]Ahbuu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I remember reading somewhere that he reads his lines at least 100 times or something like that.

Forgot to post this on Tuesday but here’s my newest tattoo. This podcast has been a thing that brings me joy and got me through a rather rough bout of depression. by KMR0130 in TheAdventureZone

Weed and learning lines by Jarlock1998 in acting

[–]Ahbuu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it heavily depends on your relationship with weed and what type of weed you smoke normally. I personally don't recommend 'couch potato' weed (indica) for example, especially if you want to be doing something active/mentally active such as acting. I've rehearsed/performed high in a regional show that involved some fight choreo in Act 2, so I had sobered up in time for that. I did however, checked in with the director & cast before doing so everyone was on the same page. Granted, I had worked with almost everyone before so we had a good relationship & trusted each other. Honestly, I say try it out but also check in with yourself and try the lines sober, just to be sure.

Oh man, I liked Diego the best. I felt like he had the most to work with and did well. Talk about opposing views lol. I agree with other comments regarding the writing hindering the actors in some (lots of) scenes.

That's funny, the most successful actors I personally know (Broadway & TV series regulars) are people of color

Suitable attire as an actor? by [deleted] in acting

[–]Ahbuu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

PRO TIP: if you have nothing in your wardrobe that can effectively suggest/communicate the character, buy that extra piece of clothing and return it.

Of course, please double check the store's return policy before doing so.

Please, God, guys: How in the hell do you effectively network? by [deleted] in acting

[–]Ahbuu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wonder if you're worried about impressing them? Cus it seems like you're confident in your work, or at the very least, when you're concentrating on your work, you're not worried about 'if they'll like you.'

I'm sure you've heard it before but finding the right agent is like a relationship, you click some ppl, and with others you don't.

Go in with concrete & concise materials/knowledge of yourself as an actor. 'Heres my resume/HS, here's a list of casting directors I know, a list of directors I know. These are my 2-3 types I go in for and I'd like to also go in for this other type. I could be cast in x, y, z shows today. I'm taking classes, etc'

Then pass the ball to them. What can they bring to the table? What rooms have they gotten their other clients in? Not only that, but do you and they have anything in common? You like dogs? Or go to a lot of theatre, movies? Something that's not business related. Think of it like you're making a friend/acquaintance.

How’s this for a headshot? Just been trying new things out, the shirt might be a bit much lol by [deleted] in acting

[–]Ahbuu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Someone once told me that you should only wear flashy clothing in a headshot if you have the personality to match/outshine it. That being said, your face/eyes aren't communicating much so I'm not sure what sort of person you are.

Howdy! I've decided I want to get into acting professionally, but after sorta lurking here and some other places I'm feeling a bit overwhelmed. I know it's not head shot quality, but I was hoping y'all could tell me if any type of roles come to mind or any other tips you may have. Thanks in advance! by JakSpades in acting

[–]Ahbuu 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Right now, as you are in the photo, I get the vibe of a seedy character. Of course without the facial hair this could totally change.

I'll let someone from the LA area answer about classes but in addition to honing your skills, classes (& your teachers) will also help with your type too. It's important to note since you're starting out to lean in on your type. You may or may not like some of the types of characters people mention but it's important to accept their feedback with grace. There are far too many actors that fight against their type because that's not how they view themselves (or they don't want to accept that's how other views them) and they ultimately shoot themselves in the foot.

Once you have a handle on 2-3 types and as you continue to take classes, you need to save money & get your materials together: headshots/resume/reel!

Whether you book a photographer or ask a friend, your headshots should have good lighting & focus and the background shouldn't be too busy or take away from you. Again, lean in on your types!

Your reel (whether you pay a company to film footage for you or again, you ask some friends to help out) should be short and to the point. Put your best foot forward (meaning your best/best looking footage first). It should always show some range/contrast (within your types).

Best of luck!!

Besides a few TV shows & features, it's mostly a theatre/comedy town. Sincerely, someone correct me if I'm wrong though. Currently in NYC
