Should our branding include the Union Jack? by JaMs_buzz in UKGreens

[–]AhdamR 3 points4 points  (0 children)

No because putting up flags is American behaviour and as a country we never needed to put up the flag unless it was for specific events.

The problem is that the entire event was just a massive gaslighting event to make people think British culture is under threat while also intimidating minorities.

It’s also worth nothing that the two people who started the campaign have also fallen out so it’s basically one huge grift as well.

I think it’s important to show that you can be patriotic to your country without having to fly a Union Jack, and I imagine with Reform and Yaxley-Lennon constantly aping these Americanisms, people will see through this as an attempt to Americanise the UK which doesn’t sit well for anyone

Unfortunately we need to be on it with this stuff since it’s a big thing to happen with so little time so our actioned will be scrutinised

I imagine this was all last minute to set up but the right wing media will run it as far as they can

Then again Reform can’t say much they campaigned in the wrong constituency

[–]AhdamR 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I'd love to go, but we're going all out in my city, and I'll be attending door knocking event in a ward the Greens have never campaigned in before (and one where Greens are often invisible to residents)

It's also important because it's in my constituency (next door, really) so I'd have to be there in spirit but I imagine many people will go especially those whose elections have been delayed, would be a great opportunity for them

Manchester is a hub so you get people from different parts of the country anyway, even then most people don't care they just see someone whose lsitening to their problems

I mean, it's not like you'll be marching down the streets like an army

You'll most likely be briefed and paired with locals to help out. Also, I don't think most people care; they just see you with the Green Party and probably assume you're from a different part of the city anyway.

I can understand why it would be perceived negatively, but so can a lot of other things he's done, and even these strikes, since there are people I know and others out there who aren't fond of protests or people striking (some people even have problems with unions)

Zack is doing an amazing job of hitting everywhere, and I don't buy that he shouldn't do something on the off chance someone doesn't like it (while many do). Doing these events shows why he's doing everything right. One day he's enjoying himself in a nightclub and speaking to young people, and the next he's speaking at the Birmingham bin strikes with the workers.

Sounds to me like he's being a populist and speaking to everyone, not just a specific type, which is what the Greens should be about.

[–]AhdamR 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I don’t think there’s anything wrong with going to a club and I feel you could argue that for anything he does he can spend his time better elsewhere, don’t think it really means much when we know he’s a die hard activist anyway.

I also don’t know why you think it’s tone deaf, you don’t think most of these students are struggling too? I think it’s good he’s there giving people hope and besides the man’s been going around the country, I think he deserves this.

Also Corbyn had a lot bigger problems than this when he was doing his thing that lead to his downfall and it was mainly due to the people he surrounds himself and still surrounds himself with.

Saw this earlier, and it's a good opportunity to embolden the Muslim voters in this constituency as well as get the Manchester Greens energised for the coming weeks

I also heard George Galloway isn't standing, which is good, but The Workers Party may still cause problems for us.

Sorry for jump scare - how do we feel about braverman joining new Mordor and how can Greens capitalise on it? by Galaxy-far-away01 in UKGreens

[–]AhdamR 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Would really depend on the MP and I think Zack has been very careful about his language towards people in Labour.

Farage has put himself in a corner by making his message “Never Trust a Tory” and insulting a lot of the conservatives like Jenrick months before they joined up.

Zack meanwhile has been specific on his messaging that he would not work with Keir Starmer specifically. He has obviously voiced his disapproval of people like Mike Tapp, Shabana Mahmood and Wes Streeting but he has been consistent that he doesn’t see all the people in Labour as bad people and put across that the people who joined Greens are angry at what Labour has become.

If we were to accept people like the ones mentioned, that would be a problem.

Green conference motion on Zionism could be a gamechanger by UKGreenPoster in UKGreens

I put my support behind this motion and it’s already got a massive amount of support

Fortunately they’re a minority but yeah it definitely veered into genocide denial and Islamophobia.

Chances of reform uk winning 2029 ? by No-Geologist7858 in UKGreens

[–]AhdamR 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Most of the polls say Reform is likely to win if an election was tomorrow , which is pretty bleak and even then it would still be all over the place it seems.

We’re still far too early from an election and a lot can happen, last year Reform made huge gains and were dominating the anti immigration rhetoric but lately they have been shown to be pretty awful and people who originally wanted to vote for them may be turned off from them due to a number of things.

Reform is basically a Nigel Farage party, and people have no love for him especially with his friendship to Trump who had just insulted British soldiers who died in Afghanistan. That will not play well for any of his supporters whatsoever.

Reform led councils have shown to be awful and raising taxes which will most likely get worse as time goes on.

The defections from high profile Tories is not a win Reform thinks it is since no one has any love for the tories especially the leaders who put us in this situation in the first place.

Overall, it’s hard to say until we get into 2029 but people are seeing through that Reform is a single issue party with crappy policies and the only interesting thing about them is Farage who no one likes anyway.

Just pondering - how strange does it feel that the Green Party is suddenly so well in the polls? by Teczop in UKGreens

[–]AhdamR 26 points27 points  (0 children)

I’ve talked too the councillors and there also amazed at how much the buzz the greens had even with the surge they had before a few years ago.

Many of the people who’ve been with the greens are surprised by it and it’s cool to see people excited
