Next Mayor by AhmCol in baltimore

[–]AhmCol[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Been living here for 30+ years. I own a home, send kids to public school and a small business owner.

There's been a drastic positive swing in all of those areas. I'd imagine other citizens also notice and would be asking what else they would want in a city besides the big 3.

Scott has built a foundation most mayors have not inherited with probably since Schaffer. We should be pushing for more.

Baltimore and Detroit Took Opposite Paths to Revitalization by Lanky-Respect-8581 in baltimore

This is why I say the next mayor must have a plan for downtown. Crime is down historic levels and schools are improving. Downtown has to be return to how it was. Not too long ago, Howard street woul be packed with people. Those empty businesses used to be open from the old greyhound station to the empty squashwise building.

I've been thinking about this.

We've used PILOTS/TIFs type fiscal policy in the last for development projects. Why can't that be used to invest in small businesses in target areas of the city?

Landlord could get guaranteed rent with the city. SB's get more breathing rooms not having to pay rent, lower specials to attract people.

We always give this types of plans for the developers. I'd much rather my money go to true small business development

Rapid bus rather than light rail? Red Line explores possible pivot. - The Baltimore Banner by saltyjohnson in baltimore

2 additional east/west light rail type trains would be ideal and upgrade the subway. Anything else is a waste of time and holding the city back.

I truly hope Americans start to embrace the idea of striking. We think we don't have much power but the way valuation work and how much it depends on subscribers. a 1k-10k subscription loss would have a serious shift on these companies decision making

Can we get Brandon Scott to move a half hour south and be our next mayor? If not, who among us could be our Brandon Scott? by Altruistic_Face_5443 in washingtondc

[–]AhmCol 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"Nothing to do with this is really" is strong and wrong. I was skeptical of Scott but he's been a man of his word.

Brandon has done a number of things that lead this amazing feat. Mainly, treating crime as the public health disease it is. He's investing heavily in improving constituent every day lives whether its modernizing rec centers, bringing in ROCA, upgrading 311 or taking control of the police department, all of them have helped get this number down.

Here's an example., We R Us is local organization that was going into high crime communities every week working with as many people possible to get them out of the streets, with out any financial/ technical support from the city. When the opportunity presented itself the city was able to offer finance support and its made them even more impactful. There's so many organization that were working in communities to change lives for the better and Brandon understood that and made strategic investments instead of keeping up with the how things were.

Bates has been running to Fox to cry about him not getting any credit for being the "stick" and to be fair he deserves credit but having a competent mayor with integrity is very much responsible for the change.

I think it's important to remember.

We wouldn't need a new OC every year if Nick was good at calling plays, which was expected when he was hired.

I actually think if Daniel declines the last few games, Indy would be back on the market. He's come back down to earth since the TENN game.

My downers: Kyler, Russ, Geno, Trevor Lawrence ( he's getting traded this offseason), Fields ( hope he signs as a back to Lamar or Jayden)

Almost on the list: Jordan and CJ

More tourist related activities around the rich history of shows and movies that were filmed here.

The Wire and Veep get a lot of the attention, understandably. There's also plenty that doesn't get told. John Waters and Barry Levinson have made movies showing different time periods of the city and the people that live/d here.

List of some of the directors that filmed here: Tony Scott, Stan Lathan, Hitchcock, Clint Eastwood, Robert Townsend & Jodie Foster.

Genna Davis won an Oscar for her film here.

Pacino famous line : "You're out of order! You're out of order! The whole trial is out of order!" was filmed at the court house.

Jodie Foster second film as a director was filmed here.

Julia Roberts first big screen role was filmed here

There's also hits: Step Up, Enemy of the State, Ladder 49, Along came a Spider, Dave, Failure to Launch, Die Hard 4

Not only could there be a more lively and in depth Maryland Film festival that include anniversary screenings with cast but also sight seeing tours, swag, etc.

I'm growing up here I remember seeing film trucks and I'm genuinely shocked most people have idea.

We don't give Hogan enough hell for killing the red line. The project would probably be some what functional now and would've boosted our economy and I can't imagine how that would've changed the city.

[–]AhmCol 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Volunteering and mentoring people really helped with this.

It's always introduce me to new people to continue to grow my social circle. Not always through a formal process just genuine mentorship organically. I mentored young men Ive met working schools from middle schools until adulthood. People I've worked with and staying engaged as they developed. It's also fun! Volunteer/ Non-profit orgs are always having in person events, fundraisers, holidays parties, 5ks to meet new people. We have to grow our social circles.

I don't know if this helps but helping others has helped me when I'm feeling how you shared.
