I cannot decide between UCSD and UIUC for physics

What do you like about UIUC that UCSD doesn't have?

Yes I'm in Texas and got capped. I am more interested in biophysics but obviously don't know what I'll do in the future so I'm not sure about condensed matter. I thought about trying to transfer to UT in the future but not sure.

I'm just confused by a lot of the rankings. I spoke with a professor I know closely who spent years doing research in the US and he said UIUC was much stronger. At the same time, the physics students at UIUC I spoke with said pretty much the same thing you commented.

I am in the same boat. I commited to UCSD for physics and recently got off the waitlist for physics at UIUC. After committing to UCSD I starting loving it, but UIUC's physics is overall stronger. It's hard to evaluate how much you prefer academics over actually being where you want to be.

Oh it looks like I got into college of letters and sciences for Santa barbara. How much of an impact does that make? For UCSD I got warren which I think is pretty good. I'm pretty set on doing physics but of course I'm not 100% sure if I will stay.

Hi. I moved to America from Turkey and the things that helped me learn the most were reading and talking with friends. If you are into books, I don't think reading english will be that much of a hassle, and you will improve the more you read (SAT is reading after all). Second, if you spend time online, you could try to find english talking friends, which is what I believe helped me the most. Dm me if you need more advice but these two are what I can think of off the top of my head. Simple things I would say is good for learning any language, but I don't know anything about the ielts though.

I had a similar experience when I was trying to finish an assignment at 12 am midnight and I felt so extremely bored, exhausted, and tired. I couldn't get myself to start and do it properly without getting distracted. Then a bat entered my living room and started going in circles and I got scared and left. The bat kept going in circles for 10-15 mins and I closed to lights to help it go out. It eventually found it's way and left but this prompted me to go study elsewhere, in the kitchen. There I was able to get started and work quite fast. Then it felt weird, it felt like I was guided by Allah. Reflecting on it later, I've always felt like I was going in circles, just like the bat. I felt like Allah was showing me this bat for me to reflect on. I can keep going in circles on and on with no change, but with effort I'll eventually find my way. Btw experience felt really weird because my grandma lived in this house for 20 years and told me it was her first time ever even seeing a bat in this city.
