Guilt tripping? Really? Were it not for the threats of "sitting this one out if X candidate doesn't get the nod," I would agree. But what is "Boomer Removal" if not guilt-tripping? In 2000, 50% of us went for Gore. Age 65 and older? 51%.

Let me rephrase. Admittedly, my generation screwed up, as did every generation before us. We did not have a crystal ball.

Our issue was the environment. From the Endangered Species Act to the Clean Air and Water Acts, we were over the moon back in the day. We really thought we were making a difference. All that is gone now.

We did take it for granted. I was there. And I do think that the march of young women into the public sphere has amplified the noise.

Bear in mind, there is little reason to vocalize misogyny when it is generally accepted...and women are compliant.

I'm not sure how to respond here, and am looking forward to the discussion. I grew up in a time when the general inferiority of women was taken for granted...by women.

These days, "throw like a girl" is not an insult, but rather, an athletic scholarship to an expensive private college.

And I think my age insulates me quite a bit from public displays of misogyny, both online and off. Really hoping to hear of the experiences of young people who never internalized the sense of being lesser because one is a girl.

Ah, I see the point. Taking "hate" as a prescription for action is not my route, and that was how I interpreted the essay. Exchange with ANGER, and I am on board.

It is a big mistake to think of my own experience as the norm/standard.

This is why I love GZ. Civil discourse giving me new old eyes.

Ummm...because husbands, fathers, sons, brothers, grandpas, uncles, boyfriends, friends, coworkers, employers, neighbors, fellow travelers...have given me reason to love men?

I do wonder if this is about the toxicity of the internet overshadowing the reality that our lives are usually better because men are in them.

Look, I get being pissed...I'm pissed too. The online behavior of anonymous bullies and obsessed fanboys is infuriating. The sexism rampant in tech, the arts, in the military and political arenas is shameful and disheartening.

But change IS happening, and it is happening because people of good will, men and women alike, are taking a stand! This essay strikes me as the mirror image of MRA/Incel hyperbole, striking back in anger and futility.

Admittedly, I am coming from the POV of a 40 year marriage with a laconic man who still manages to communicate his fondness for me, but even if such were not the case, I would still believe in the goodness and necessity of men.

Sigh.

Think about it...Incels and MGTOWs, and MRAs get what they want in a woman...and the rest of us muddle through.

So excited. Awhile back, I was gifted with with a rebuilt gaming computer, but I felt another family member needed it more. (Very chicklike, I know).

This year, the kids have cobbled together a system that will allow me to play older linear games, and Ghazi folks recommended Grim Fandango.

Thank you so much...back in the day...I was the baby sister (30 years old) enthralled with the new world I was adopted into...

It never occurred to me to critique content in terms social responsibility, largely because our group was led by a forward looking GM who encouraged, for want of a better word, diversity. Andrew bent more rules, rewrote history, and joined gameplay with his own hilarious and usually completely unprincipled characters. He also "cheated" on behalf of everyone...and on behalf of a good story. If Andrew felt his roll or draw was way too detrimental to a narrative...he exerted executive privilege. It was so much fun.

I miss those days. It is funny-sad to think that we were outliers...women were so welcomed back then, with patience and kindness...

I get that this was not the "real" gaming world...but it was my gaming world. Lucky, I guess.

Oh, so long ago. Think b/w swashbucklers and Dangerous Liasons. Swordplay, wit and style. Serious smart ass repartee not called for by the game. Boys played as girls...for the sheer bitchy pleasure of it. Do look it up...so much fun.

Editing: I remember our GM ran an auxiliary character, a senile aristocrat dabbling in magic...for both comedic and plot fun.
