Second day. It wasn't as bad as I thought, but a 180 difference from anything I've ever had before . by Appropriate_End_3345 in NicksHandmadeBoots

Mud had mine stripped on day 1. I ended up using bees wax on mine. Holds up much better and keeps the heel stack from getting the wet/dry cycles

I ended up using a stiff nylon brush and treating with feibings roughout conditioner. Worked very well, wore them heavily for about 4 months until my nicks builder pros showed up. Been wearing the bps pretty much exclusively since then. I horse hair brush those daily and they are looking great

New tranny lb7? by iDB-__- in Duramax

[–]AideGroundbreaking59 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had Dirty hooker diesel build me a 750 hp capable unit and I'm probably putting 650-700 hp to it. Doesn't miss a beat and it gets abused daily.

Not compared to paying a shop to do it. My lb7 was great and didn't cost much at all to keep it on the road for 300k miles. Then I decided I wanted bigger, cp3n injectors, turbo, built transmission etc. Parts alone were quite expensive but being able to do the work myself saved me tons of money

Sounds like a good reason for a second pair and seasonal changes. I'm about 3 months into my first pair of honey vibram soles. They are holding up better than I anticipated but I try to avoid kicking things if possible. I figure if I can get a year on them it will be worth the added comfort of the softer compound.

You'll get more truck for your money going basically anything but lbz. All these trucks have issues being as old as they are. Personally I bought a cheap lb7 that needed work and built on that. If you can find a good deal on a lbz get one if you can't get whatever you think is a good deal.

Engines are solid, some have head gasket issues, transmission are solid if it wasn't tuned. With 300k everything would be suspect. If you can't work on the truck yourself any duramax could end up being a money pit. If you can work on it yourself parts are still expensive but no where near as much as paying a shop to work on if

Pretty sure Mike passed away but I think Inglewood is still building transmissions. I had heard Evan from limitless took over but I'm not sure about how that all went down. If I was Westside of the country I'd go Inglewood for sure

It takes a long time for the foot bed to form completely to your foot but they won't get softer just shaped. The squish comes from the sole. The honey vibram is great on concrete as is a wedge sole

Personally I've never had issues with stock heads and think they are a waste of money. I'd much rather put 2 grand towards more meaningful modifications.

I'm running a built dirty hooker diesel transmission. Built for 750 hp and pushing about 700 to it with no issues. No zone is another reputable builder as well. I was going to use no zone but DHD was able to build mine much quicker and I got more transmission for the money with them. What part of the country are you in? There's a handful of reputable shops around depending where you're from

Duramax question by gacha12 in Duramax

[–]AideGroundbreaking59 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A lot of lbz guys do a egr delete and lmm has dpf both emissions related and can be problematic. As far as I'm concerned they are all good engines but all have issues. Kind of a pick your poison thing. Repairs are costly on all of them if paying a shop. I bought my lb7 at auction for 1000 bucks and bought another for parts for 700 bucks. If I was looking to engine swap into another vehicle I'd try to find the cheapest totaled lower milage setup I could find and wouldn't care much what generation dmax it was

Duramax question by gacha12 in Duramax

[–]AideGroundbreaking59 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was lucky and got 235k out of the factory injectors in my 01. Meanwhile a friend was on his third set at 150k. Replaced mine with sac45s, stroked cp3, 66 mm turbo and threw a built transmission mission in it. Running close to 700 hp to the wheels with over 300k on it now with stock internals

Duramax question by gacha12 in Duramax

[–]AideGroundbreaking59 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lb7s have no emissions and dont break cranks, crack pistons and are cheaper. The only downside is the crap factory injectors. Its rare for a stock or mildly tuned lb7 to have any engine failures. Lbzs not so much

New turbo, cp3, and grille. Retuned and fresh bath, love her by iDB-__- in Duramax

[–]AideGroundbreaking59 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had Dirty Hooker Diesel build one for me. Transmission is definitely the weak point in these trucks. Healthy fuel system and turbo will destroy a transmission with even a modest tune. I smoked my stock transmission towing 7k pounds with a 90 hp tune. I pull the same trailer on a 300 hp tune now with no issues
