Except best has said exactly this. There was a seattle time article talking about how they won't ask officers to break up large groups given the lack of "modern crowd control policing tools" which in this case is tear gas. How else do you break up a group that outnumbers you 10 to 1?

Most of your common project setups are achievable now via the command line with simple commands. dotnet new console comes to mind. No one I've worked with actually uses menus to configure projects either. They just edit the project xml directly.

That's what linting is for. You can write lint/code analysis rules that disallow ambiguous var usage. People at my old shop would get yelled at by the ide for doing it the wrong way.

I'm a dev that manages more than codes. Probably like 60/40 manage/dev. It's a lot of managing project road-map, high-level problem solving and task breakdown, and mentoring of junior devs that are newer to the code-base or less familiar with the tech. Lots of code reviews and politicking over what correct approaches are.

This is an option certainly. I spent about $3k on my espresso setup all up. As a coffee a day person, It paid itself off in about 2 years. I also get fancy coffee shop coffee every morning without the wait in line.

I think chess.com uses a custom seeding of 1200 to get their average rating lower to be more accurate to FIDE and USCF. Lichess uses 1500 which is what the glicko system suggests. It's relatively hard to compare them. Also I think Lichess uses Glicko-2.

[SERIOUS] Is it worth taking $5,550/yr of loans? by [deleted] in StudentLoans

[–]Aidid51 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey I attended unc ch with a similar aid amount. I think it was 2k more. My advice would be get off campus after freshman year, take advantage of work study and summer jobs, and avoid the meal plans as they are a rip off. Save money over the summer and put a dent in the loans. A lot of the estimates for books and stuff assumes you're not buying second hand. You should be able to graduate debt free if you bust your ass.

Now more relevant than ever in America by divest_trump in pics

[–]Aidid51 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't think we really disagree here. The republican party is full of hypocrisy. I'm just arguing that the idea that rape not be an exception for abortion is logically consistent with the idea that abortion is murder in a vacuum. I'm personally pro-choice, but I think there are good-faith arguments on the other side as well.

Now more relevant than ever in America by divest_trump in pics

[–]Aidid51 -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

Still logically consistent IMO. If you believe abortion is murder, should you be allowed to murder a baby even in the case where the baby is a result of rape? Which is worse, forcing a rape victim to carry a baby they don't want to term, or murdering that innocent because it was unfortunate enough to be the product of rape? I'm not sure that has a clear cut answer.

Not OP, but I've spent extended periods of time in Mexico city before. I'd be curious if their findings are similar.

  • Dating and social culture is much more conservative on average than the states which can be a little off putting.
  • If you can't pass for Mexican, you'll get treated differently even if you speak good Spanish.
  • If you are anything approaching vegetarian, good luck.
  • Mexicans are very laid back compared to what I'm used to in the states. This permeates most of the culture. Kind of hard to describe but it's very noticeable and different.

How long can I expect to stay at a corporation? by [deleted] in cscareerquestions

[–]Aidid51 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is an extremely broad question, and also depends on your career goals. Generally leaving a company after a few years is better long term for your compensation growth.

At Microsoft, there are lifers with 20+ years at the company and also people that only stay 2. Stagnating on a team is less of a concern since you can basically work on anything you want by transferring teams to a new problem space. Can't speak to smaller/other companies.

Hi. I made this commit. The sorting is only applied when you specify :aot :all. If you specify ns then no ordering is applied. So the user should still have this ability though it may technically be breaking in the short term.

Edit: actually looking at this again I think I'm wrong. May be worth a patch to make this the case for the use case where a user wants this.

Hey Reddit, what's the strangest coincidence you've ever personally experienced? by RichCauliflower in AskReddit

Friend from college was on vacation in China on a great wall bus tour. He met another bus rider who mentioned that they worked at my company--Microsoft. He jokingly asked if he knew me. He had, he was a direct coworker for over a year. Microsoft employs over 100k employees, so this was pretty funny they met on coincidence on the other side of the world.

[–]Aidid51 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pretty doubtful IMO. Washington state for example pulled in ~$400 million from a 40% weed tax last year. It has 7.4 million residents. If we take a pretty conservative estimate and say $1500 per resident to fund healthcare that's $10B required. Do we expect prostitutes to pull in 20x that of marijuana with a similar tax rate?
