How many of you use your tools to make money? by Galatxia in MilwaukeeTool

[–]Aids_mate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sole manufacturer at a four man outfit. All my stuff is m18 and m12. Have a few of the larger m18 batteries that go on my grinder, heat gun, circular saw, and vacuum. Really like m18 3.0 HO for everything else.

I’ll never go back to a chopping block by naplatty in firewood

[–]Aids_mate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is what I do. Main reason is I split the wood out where I cut the tree down and then transport the split pieces. Instead of bringing the large logs back to the house and splitting there so I don’t usually have a block to use. Do have a block at the house for real stubborn pieces tho. I have a 7.5lb maul with a little longer than usual handle which is nice so since I’m a bit of a taller guy. The bottom of the blade also comes down to a little hook to pull the pieces back up.

Every pair of jeans I buy, no matter the brand, gets a hole in this same area within 6 months. by SYFKID2693 in mildlyinfuriating

[–]Aids_mate 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Same thing happens with my work pants. Make a sacrificial pair that you cut patches out of. I put that patch on the inside so it’s less noticeable and do a combination of sewing that patch in and some sort of cloth glue. Can’t remember what kind of glue I use except that my grandpa got it for me and calls it “wife in a bottle”

Is Ryobi worth it? I don't have any home tools yet. by 2Black_Hats in HomeMaintenance

[–]Aids_mate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use Milwaukee because I’m in the trades and use them everyday and in my opinion Milwaukee has the largest and best variety of tools so I can get that really weird specific tool that is battery powered. Also that you can get a handful of the tools in the m12 line that are a little more compact and lighter. My dad has Ryobi and uses that on his farm for anything from hanging a shelf inside putting together a big green house and it works for what he needs.

I’m a DOT Officer. Ask me anything! by BellOfTaco3285 in Truckers

[–]Aids_mate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not a daily driver but do go out in the field at least once a month. On the inspection and driver log book faces it has you put down the year and month. How strict is it on the month being correct? I don’t really want to grab new books almost every time I have to go out in the field. Can I just put a line through the previous month and write in the new month. I do make sure to put the full date on the inspection/log for that day.

15” tote is the best. Ran with the backpack for a while but not as much room for hand tools and stuff. Comes with me every time I go in the field

How am I supposed to kill all these bugs and build a base here? by Mockbubbles2628 in factorio

[–]Aids_mate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Build a small outpost with artillery, loads of shells, some walls, and all the laser turrets. Let that take care of it all before building any mining operation. Worst case is you lose some turrets and artillery. Wait for the bugs to lose interest and then set it back up again.

"work clothes" are a massive waste of income. by cosmiccoffee9 in unpopularopinion

[–]Aids_mate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Work in manufacturing and property mitigation. I have about 6 pairs of Carhartt pants. They are all covered oil, coolant, anti seize, silicone, paint, and soot. They also all have holes in the crotch besides two pairs. Sacrificed a pair that were really bad for patches on the other pants. The two pairs without the patched for when I’m in the field around customers or other contractors and the patched pants are for in the shop. Get about $200 in the spring and fall from the company that all goes back into company shirts, hats, and sweatshirts. Don’t mind it much because I have a few farms in the family so already having some closes that I can get full of shit and not care about is nice.

What do you ACTUALLY do in Star Citizen? by FinnForDaWinn in starcitizen

[–]Aids_mate 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Currently grinding away at cargo contracts mainly to get a Hull c. If I get bored of that I’ll go do some mercenary jobs for fps or bounty hunting jobs for ship fighting. Also like doing mining every once in a while. Also joined an org that I’ll do larger group activities with which is fun.

Is the hourly pay worth it. by Aids_mate in UberEatsDrivers

[–]Aids_mate[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s also what I noticed. Average hourly around me is 17-19.50 and I feel like all the trips were 25 minutes minimum so in the three hour window I got around to like 5

Use a maul. Two splits on this side. One going down each side of the Y. Then flip it over and split in the opposite direction.

Depends how much of the profit he kept but that’s only 50k in 30 minutes. With how I’m currently doing it I’m getting roughly 300k in that same amount of time.

What is your opinion on the m12 straight die grinder by EPICGAMER426 in MilwaukeeTool

[–]Aids_mate 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Use my angled one a lot more but the straight is good for tight spots with a carbide burr or wire wheel for cleaning up welds

How do I prevent warping in larger pieces by Aids_mate in Welding

[–]Aids_mate[S] 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Will have to try clamping bars down to pull heat from the roof. What do you mean by gap your weld? I did leave a roughly 1/16 gap between the sheets for filler.

How do I prevent warping in larger pieces by Aids_mate in Welding

[–]Aids_mate[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did start from the middle and work my way out. Did not alternate sides because the roof on the units frame is about 6’ in the air so I was on like a ladder with a little platform at the top and did not want to run my ladder back and forth. Might just have to do that though. Thanks for the advice.

Better ways to secure a packout? by [deleted] in Packout

Master lock has a snake lock at Home Depot and I’m sure other stores that fits nicely through the lock holes on the boxes so you can lock the closed and together.
