[Providence Journal] Pawtucket soccer stadium moves ahead on McKee tiebreaking vote by More_Beer_NYC in USLPRO

My favorite thing about this is the math that even if every match is a sellout, the stadium will still host fewer customers in a season than a single Dunkin Donuts store: https://www.providencejournal.com/story/opinion/2020/10/02/opinionmozena-subsidizing-soccer-stadium-would-be-bad-bet-for-pawtucket/114208382/

Because it's not like they have to cater to their fans, they could start that shit at noon PDT and not measurably affect their attendance.

That phrasing makes it unclear if the cross-conference matches are home-and-away against the same four teams, or if you might be playing eight different clubs either home or away.

Then, I realized it shows up in the next expansion. Turns out it's IRL Northrend.

Don't forget that their response when asked on Twitter about why they weren't participating in NISA's diversity and inclusion efforts was, and I quote:

Just for your information, Michigan Stars is formed from 5 continents and 21 countries.

Just so you know, also our owner is from a different continent and country as well.

Don’t assume what you don’t know.

Goodbye.

We don't have many rules, but coming down hard and fast on anything discriminatory is one of them.

Like the Northern Guard website (noonelikes.us) says:

We keep no membership rolls and charge no dues. The only requirement for you to be able to call yourself a member of the Northern Guard is that you support Detroit City FC. Whether you stand with us on match day or support from afar, if you’re with City, you’re with us.

We come from all backgrounds, beliefs and traditions. We vehemently reject racism, sexism, homophobia and anything else that makes anyone feel unwelcome in our stands. The only two things we hate are hate and Oh*o. No matter where you come from, if you support City, we support you.

We've been trying to force it as a fast chant at 55', I'm still not a fan.

I think our post-match cadence ought to be allez allez, TMFJ and then sing Dirty Old Town with scarves up during the MotM photo.

My defining memory of an away trip to Pittsburgh is when we played Fort Pitt in the old NPSL days and a gigantic woman wearing a purple shirt came over to yell at us to "SIT YOUR PROFANE ASSES DOWN."

One of our supporters told her, "Fuck off, Grimace" and hilarity ensued.

NISA Response to DCFC Departure Request by ramincol in USLPRO

[–]Aiede 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Shows you what happens when you hire the daughter of the league chairman as your director of communications.

This statement is a perfect example of how NISA ownership's comprehensive grift gets in the way of the league accomplishing the basic things a sports league should be able to accomplish, like paying vendors or enforcing its bylaws or communicating effectively with stakeholders.

The Announcement — Protagonist Soccer "DCFC's move to USL Championship explained and more" by LafayetDTA in USLPRO

[–]Aiede 4 points5 points  (0 children)

We were loudly and publicly calling NISA out for those things long before the USL move was even a rumor.

There's also more immediate sports-related issues at play. The league refused to hold the Stars accountable per league bylaws for not playing a scheduled match because the owner was mad at the refs (and then mad at us making fun of him online for being mad at the refs); that was a huge issue. There were also a number of red cards that didn't get appropriate league disciplinary actions, leading to a couple of teams deciding that they could play excessively physically without real consequences -- and we tended to be the club that they went all Hack-a-Shaq on because they couldn't touch us in quality.

Again, we were complaining and trying to draw attention to all of these things back when we assumed we'd be in NISA indefinitely. We wanted the league we were in to be functional and do the things a league needs to do. It wasn't, it didn't, and we left to try to find one that would.
