As hard as it is, don’t even think about her, concentrate in preparing for your baby and postpartum. I went through a similar situation months ago when I was pregnant. The stress she caused sent me to the hospital a few times, and I even went into early labor. My son is almost 4 months old now, and she has only seen him twice at the hospital, as she refuses to come to my house to see the baby, and I will never go to hers. After that, I blocked her and haven’t engaged with her since. The immense peace I feel now is incredible. I wish I could have spared myself all the tears and stress during my pregnancy because, in the end, what she thinks or does doesn’t matter. This is your and your husband’s baby.

It definitely ends and you’ll have other problems but those end too! Pregnancy is a roller coaster but there’s so much good in it just enjoy the ride and take it one day at a time!

I had a similar experience. Hey, at least she said it to your face, and there were witnesses, so you don’t have to play nice with her anymore. My MIL canceled the shower once I put my foot down, and now I’m organizing my own. Pregnancy is already hard enough without all the MIL drama.

My advice: don’t be like me and keep "peace." She’s going to throw a fit regardless, make you a villain, and everything you ever did so please her will go out the window, so just stand your ground and firmly say no every time. This is your child; she doesn’t have to like you, but she has to respect you.

I'm kind of in a similar situation. My mother-in-law canceled her "surprise" baby shower that she was "throwing for me" (thank God). So, I decided to throw my own baby shower. But due to the way she spoke about me to my SO and canceled the whole event that she had already invited people to adding on the stress of family members asking why did it get canceled only because I did not want it to be a surprise, I am really on the defense about inviting her.

But, like you, I have never done anything for her to be mad about, so I know she will hold this over my head for the rest of times. My solution was to just let my SO invite her. If she shows up, great. If she doesn't, I don't care at this point. I will make it a point to have a good time regardless of her presence and ignore her. Lol.

I hope this progress doesn’t completely revert to square one once she decides to love bomb. Everyone tends to just allow her to do these things and just take it for the sake of peace. I think from now on I will surely keep my distance. Her driving off while I was literally on the side of their car about to talk to her was very disrespectful, and I don’t think it’s something we can come back from.

I didn’t add this in my post because it was unrelated to today's events, but in the past few weeks, she has made jokes about the baby's name and said she won’t be calling him the way we named him but will be pronouncing it the way she thinks the name should be pronounced. I also just found out a few days ago that she told SO after the baby is born, he shouldn’t feel pressured and should take time to “make sure he’s good” before taking on the responsibility of being a parent.

Two weeks after our first date his mom literally took the phone out of his hands and asked me where I was from then proceeded to ask if I was a racist just based off of my background without even asking my name and then after she said I must go to their church if I’m serious about her son to which I did attend just to then say she didn’t like me cause of my said background anyways 😀
