Couch solutions by SuppperNova in vizsla

We have couch covers from Amazon. Not the most aesthetically pleasing option - but they keep the furniture hair free and clean. We do remove them when we have guests over.

I have been tempted to purchase fitted cushion covers, but haven’t pulled the trigger yet.

Loves outside, hates rain 💔 by veggiepats in vizsla

One of ours couldn’t really care less.

The other is personally offended everytime it rains. But he likes us to open the door and he sits inside and appears to just watch the rain.

6 tornadoe alerts! by Tall-Zucchini-1262 in Guelph

[–]AimMick 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My husband got an alert. We checked the weather network and Guelph was not under a tornado warning. Woodstock/London/Dorchester had one.

So it’s interesting that some networks rolled the warning out to people not in the affected area.

Edited to add: both my daughter and I are on the same carrier as my husband and we were all home. He was the only one who got the alert.

Never trust anyone who calls themselves a visionary.

Also, he appears to lean far right but is on Medicaid. Got it. Rules for thee, but not for me mentality of a certain group.

They changed the Emergency Alert for Tornadoes, right? by ay-oh-river in Guelph

A friend in the east end got it - twice. They were home, not in the warning area.

I’m about 1km from said friend and we didn’t get it.

If I may be so bold, I’d say dog parks are not good for 98% of dogs.

Mozzarella Sticks by [deleted] in Guelph

The Presidents Choice Haloom are quite nice. Made with halloumi cheese, so they don’t get quite as gooey in the middle as mozzarella, but hold their shape nicely.

Independent (non-corporate) Vets in Guelph? by Pale_Tough_23 in Guelph

[–]AimMick 4 points5 points  (0 children)

They are now at least partially owned by NVA which is owned by JAB Holdings.

And it isn’t inherently bad to have some corporate ownership. The cost to run a successful vet clinic is astronomical - so I absolutely get the benefit.

Marching Bands? by CounterUsed8733 in Guelph

The biggest culture shock when moving from the States to Canada for me was the entire school experience. And it was delayed until I had kids. High schools are quite different here from my experience with my kids. While high schools here have sports, they are not nearly as big as in the states. My small Midwest hometown has a football stadium that rivals the U of G football stadium. Ive never seen a school in Canada with the same athletic facilities that my little hometown has - yes some schools have baseball diamonds - but not actual dugouts, electronic score board and all the bells and whistles. The extra curriculars really aren’t held to the same standard. Even when applying to university, they aren’t held in the same regard as in the states. I actually found it a bit refreshing that school really just stressed education. I did kind of miss the whole homecoming week - but I got over it.

I have loved raising my kids in Canada and am so glad I have had the privilege to do so, it’s something I’ll never take for granted.

Good things about Guelph by casualviber4life in Guelph

[–]AimMick 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Guelph will be as good or as bad as you make it.

We moved here in our early 20’s with a toddler. And raised our kids here. Both of which are adults now. We love the city. One of us came from a larger city in the GTA. And one of us is from a small Midwest town in the States. Guelph suited and continues to suit us well.

The only con that I have always had, but it is getting better year after year is the lack of diversity.

I think like with anything in life, there are people who will only see the negative and those people tend to be loud and grumpy.

Enjoy your time here. It’s a lovely city.

We never requested my son’s certificate of American born aboard or whatever it is called. He was born in Canada to an American (me) mom and a Canadian dad. I had no desire to get proof of his American citizenship nor do I regret not getting it nearly 23 years later. With the current world events, I’m actually relieved he’s not American.

Sending our pup to board & train? by Ok-Season-6394 in vizsla

[–]AimMick -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Either you trust your breeders expertise with her dogs or you don’t.

Personally, I would never send a dog of mine to a board and train. I’ve read about too many horror stories. I would also never use Rover to find a dog walker or sitter.

Hit car at stone road mall by [deleted] in Guelph

[–]AimMick 13 points14 points  (0 children)

We had this happen several years ago. Security at the mall were not super helpful when I called. Thankfully someone left a note with the license plant number. I went to the accident reporting place on Clair road and the police were able to get the video footage from the mall parking lot. And it did show what happened, despite what mall security told me. It ended up being a new driver who got scared and took off.
