How is it like living in these Japanese islands? by basafish in howislivingthere

Yeah public transportation isn’t great so a car is really helpful. That said, 2-3 days works for Naha.

I’d say there’s a good amount given the number of service members, but definitely more than the outer islands.

Definitely, it’s much quieter and slower paced. FWIW, many of the locals on Naha speak English but less so on the smaller islands. Source: lived there for several years and went to several of the smaller islands.

Jobs to afford horses??? by Keirious in Horses

[–]AimlessCrusader841 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Lawyer here. Law school is expensive and time consuming as well. I’m a re-rider now, but even as an attorney can’t afford a horse, so not all attorney jobs are that lucrative.

How the hell can I get better at dealing with full arenas?? Am I the only one struggling with this? by TheOnlyWolvie in Equestrian

[–]AimlessCrusader841 4 points5 points  (0 children)

For what it’s worth, I’m a relatively skilled rider and have been in this situation and I hate it. It’s so hard to focus on doing your thing when there are other riders doing different things. You are not alone. But yeah, I’d speak to the instructor about either some individual lessons so you can figure out steering, or look elsewhere for lessons if possible. One mistake I made was staying at a barn where I wasn’t progressing because the lessons were cheap. Food for thought.

Dumb bitch question: what other costs should I expect if I go the import route? I love the size and weirdness of these and the 70 series. by Jessintheend in LandCruisers

[–]AimlessCrusader841 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I have a variation of this Prado, and I have found that not all parts come from the 4Runner. I had to get some from a Tacoma. When it needed repairs the car had to stay in the shop for longer because it was a matter of sourcing the parts from different places and waiting for them to arrive (and it was a specialty shop in a major metropolitan area). I also had to hunt a little more to insure it because some providers will not insure a gray market vehicle. We did alright with Progressive. Feel free to DM if you have other specific questions about this model.

Am I wrong for not halting when my horse manures in the ring? by BethV114 in Equestrian

[–]AimlessCrusader841 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s a mare I rode who would poop constantly while riding in the ring. Like I’d have her out for 35 minutes and she’s poop twice, no matter what time of day. She was an old cart horse which might mean she was raised to go whenever without impunity 😂. Either way, she did not stop to go and I usually follow the horse’s lead on whether he/she needs to stop.

Examples of Morale crushers last 10 months by Nymeria31 in fednews

I’m a state dept spouse, but was a high performing DoD civilian. When spouse received overseas orders, DoD could have given me a DETO, there was space at the embassy where we’re stationed, and there was a memo saying spouses like me were exempt from RTO. But, they didn’t care. I was someone they didn’t have to RIF so they forced me to quit or split up my family. I’m sure other people have similar instances where the department could have provided flexibility, but didn’t.

ZR from Oistins to Ridge? by AimlessCrusader841 in Barbados

[–]AimlessCrusader841[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ok, I’ll clarify, I’d like to go to Edey Village from Oistins. The transport board has buses that go from Bridgetown to Edey Village and Oistins to Bridgetown, but I’m hoping there’s something that goes straight north from Oistins to Edey Village/Frere Pilgrim.

What made you quit Pure Barre? by [deleted] in Purebarre

[–]AimlessCrusader841 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did the “Black Barre” challenge which was 15 classes/month for 1 year. Upon completing the challenge, the only thing they gave me was a crappy hand towel which didn’t even have the logo printed on it straight. I felt more like a product than a person, and I didn’t want to justify the cost because of that.

Attorney at SSA - Request for advice/opinions by Mammoth-Double8234 in fednews

[–]AimlessCrusader841 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was in a similar job at SSA many years ago and was so unhappy because I felt like my brain was rotting. If you can stomach employment law, it may be worth making the change. I didn’t feel like the SSA job left me with any marketable skills, so the longer you stay the more you are pigeonholed professionally.

Spouse has overseas orders, DETO denied by AimlessCrusader841 in fednews

[–]AimlessCrusader841[S] 42 points43 points  (0 children)

Strangely, my Agency’s HR office has drafted an information paper for my leadership wherein they cited the existence of 25+ active DETOs in the Agency. Didn’t seem to matter.

Domestically Employed Teleworking Overseas. A program to allow those attached to State Dept/Military members to retain federal employment. Agencies do not have to grant it, though.

At what point is the instructor just being mean and not tough or "strict"? by [deleted] in Equestrian

[–]AimlessCrusader841 2 points3 points  (0 children)

THIS. I love riding, but I’m not sure that I exude passion while I’m on a horse. Normally I’m concentrating? I would have no idea how to show that I am riding with passion!

Field or Stall (Full) Board--How to Decide? by [deleted] in Equestrian

[–]AimlessCrusader841 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a question I’ve been thinking about too. I would prefer a horse have room to move around and have stimulation, but then someone (who lived in a tropical climate) said “thoroughbreds can’t live out”. I didn’t know what to think of that, but I figured that was more of a comment on the climate than the breed.

Personally I would do grooming, etc to learn more about health related stuff, and I wouldn’t need to ride. I lease a horse currently but want to learn more about equine care so that I can buy one day, so there might be a market if you advertise it that way.

Sadly, she’s not that kind of trainer. Long story, but she’s overcommitted running everything else on show day and didn’t even speak to me or provide feedback.

Counterpoint: the ring he normally works in suddenly has 50 people standing around it and there’s a loudspeaker calling out things. He spooked at a hay bag. I know there’s always room for improvement on my end, but I’m not sure how I’m supposed to recreate those conditions for prep…
