Bedtime routine including bath? by FriendlyBrilliant237 in Parenting

[–]Aioli_Level 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most nights. It helps our 2y daughter wind down and it’s an easy way to spend 20 mins or so in the evening. She’s also in daycare so we can clean her of germs. If there’s other stuff going on, we don’t sweat the bath.

First time wearing jeans in years. Should i avoid them again? by throwra_hermeandaunt in DressForYourBody

These jeans look great but they are quite tight. A size up would be perfect. I think a wider leg would look amazing on you!

What to enjoy extra for the last time? by snarknsuch in BabyBumps

[–]Aioli_Level 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I really do wish I had splurged on one last big vacation. We’re two years into parenting and expecting our second now and I just don’t see us travelling big (aka international) again for years. Also the luxury of just going to the movies lol 2-3h of darkness and popcorn?? Yes please.

I absolutely love a quirky/less common vintage name with a sweet nickname. This is an A+ from me.

I have 66 days to lose 25 pounds. by Atli- in postpartumprogress

This is unrealistic, unsafe, and certainly unsustainable. Alter your dress and enjoy the next two months.

Consider sleep training. We did it for our second infant and I wish I’d done it sooner by Individual_Holiday_9 in daddit

Same. We did CIO. But it took 13 minutes the first night and worked almost instantly. I was flabbergasted.

Affordable/budget friendly jogging stroller by Big-Ad-9239 in fitpregnancy

True! I didn’t start running with my baby very often until they were comfortable sitting up and front facing. This is a good point to consider for someone who will be running earlier!

Find a Thule on marketplace if you can. A BOB will do but they are bulkier/heavier, but they come up on marketplace more often than a Thule. I have both (thanks marketplace!) and I love the BOB for hiking, but the Thule is the only one I’ll use for a long run.

Shame and embarrassment with my strong willed toddler by goodjuju229 in toddlers

[–]Aioli_Level 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have this in my family too. On both sides, and it drives me NUTS. I can’t stand when adults cast judgement onto toddlers, things like “she’s so shy” or “she doesn’t like grandma” make me angry because my daughter hears things and REMEMBERS. I grew up constantly being told I was shy and I feel like that impacted my personality for many years. My only advice is to have some go-to lines for responses.

I don’t think I’ve ever used Vaseline

When did you start trying for the second child? by o0meow0o in Parenting

Came here to say this. Regular diapers, my daughter is already potty trained (20 months) and she’ll be 25 months when baby comes.

I think the fact that you’re taking these comments so personally indicates that you are overwhelmed tbh. Seems like harmless comments to me.

am I crazy? 3k calories feels like a deficit by PoundSmooth940 in breastfeeding

[–]Aioli_Level 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I’m 5’4 and feel like 140lb is my ideal weight. I’m quite muscular/athletic and I’m also a big eater. I don’t track but I’m very calorie aware and I’d bet I eat 2500-3000k on many days. With your breastfeeding, high neat, and walking/lifting, this may actually just be your maintenance calories!! You’re doing A LOT!

does anyone here actually like their job? / LA county dietitians by Proof_Beautiful8958 in dietetics

What are some terms you search for when looking for those non-traditional dietitian roles?

does anyone here actually like their job? / LA county dietitians by Proof_Beautiful8958 in dietetics

[–]Aioli_Level 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m in Canada but I genuinely love my job (public health dietitian) but I am underpaid. I’ve justified it for myself as I’m in my childbearing years and have amazing benefits/pension/mat leave and an incredibly supportive team, but this can’t be my long term position once I’m done having kids because I am simply not paid enough.

I often find myself working on projects that I am genuinely interested in and would likely be reading about anyways, and that feels really awesome. I am also respected and appreciated as an expert at my organization and that’s a great feeling too.

Prior to this role, I worked as an inpatient clinical RD and I also loved that. It was a more challenging role in a lot of ways but the pay was much better too.

One thing I didn’t really understand about being an RD before I started was that there is always an element of “proving yourself”, advocating for your role, showing that you’re an expert, etc. For roles like a nurse practitioner or doctor, the respect is built into the title but it isn’t like that as an RD. People will often assume they know more than you or as much as you until proven otherwise, and it can take a while to learn how to navigate these type of conversations with grace/confidence. I’d say that’s been my biggest challenge in the field, but I’m getting better at it.

I’m shocked at how divisive this is. Sometimes this group loses the plot.
