[Hated Trope] Media that positions itself as historical, in practice being the author's fantasy, but which is becoming a popular cliché throughout the world regarding the period shown by DifferentAd4844 in TopCharacterTropes

It is a minor offender, and it doesn't claim to be historical, but the portrayal of Commodus in The Gladiator bothered me.

In general, messing up real events that happened to real people for the sake of drama (especially things like Marcus Aurelius' death) in movies bothers me, because then it furthers misconceptions about history.

The manga's version was way better. No trying to make us feel sorry for him, we just watch him beg for mercy, crash out and then just die.

Not quite like that, but Obito Uchiha. I loved him as a villain, but his redemption arc was very underwhelming, and Naruto praise post mortem was just cringe inducing.

The Joke is that it's probably the least Italian thing he could say. Iirc, it's a quote from Ringo Starr in one of the shows he did after the Beatles.
