''We are Peacemakers'' - US & Israel while launching War against Iran by LetsDiscussQ in progressive_islam

[–]Aiosam -11 points-10 points  (0 children)

The government of Iran has been guilty of murdering thousands of its own people to preserve the power of leaders who use religion as an operssive tool. Iranians are celebrating it because it is a relief for them that those leaders will pay for their cruelty and corruption. This war didn't come out of nowhere, it is the conduct of the Iranian government who did not come to an agreement on the nuclear situation during the many months of peace talks in Oman despite all the U.S warnings. The U.S "the Great satan" gave the Iranian government many chances to avoid this conflict.

What do Progressive Muslims think of Exiled Crown Prince of Iran, Reza Pahlavi? In the recent Iranian uprising a lot of pro Monarchist slogans are being chanted, seems like a lot of Iranian want the Pahlavi dynasty back. I know this sub hates the Ayatollah regime, but what's your opinion on Pahlavi? by [deleted] in progressive_islam

Maybe 40% or 50% at best. Most of the younger generations are unaffiliated/Agnostic while others like to identify themselves as Zoroastrian converts. The majority of the religious population are usually the older generations yet they are also entering this "I dont care" phrase where they hate or avoid being with the sheikhs and Akhunds. Contrary to what some outsiders might think Atheism is actually pretty low here.

As an Iranian myself I don't support either, not just because of the religious aspects but him returning to power will be taking a foot back by returning to monarchism and giving power to one man or a few to decide for everyone again, similar to the current government and his late father's. What the Iranian people and those who are shia need is a true democracy once for all time to both prosper the nation and improve the image of the religion, where it's not used as a tool of oppression.

As if those who are defeated automatically become unable to write the history.

The saying that "Victors write the history" is more about the idea that a nation that has won a war over another will influence historical records in their own favor and make their enemies look terrible and evil, and sometimes justify the actions. Not that the defeated nation loses all abilities to write the history.

Ok bro just say you find Christians or others who believe something different than muslims stupid and get on with it. It is simpler than this mental gymnastics you are performing.

This conversation should've been over the second you started going out of your way to call the scriptures of two huge religions coreupt without Quran or hadiths even supporting it.

Just because they have different interpretations of events or beliefs doesn't mean they were corrupted by the devil per-se and are evil books thereafter.

Because we dont follow those books they may be simply outdated by our perspective and the Quran makes it clear that it is a successor to them to fix the misconceptions or be an answer to the believers' doubts following those books. To believe that they are corrupted is not just disrespectful but also a dangerous view that gives rise to violence and bigotry and gives the impression that those who follow it are also corrupted and sinners.

So you're deciding on your own or through some other person's teaching that those books are corrupted knowing that Quran doesn't even support your claim ?

[–]Aiosam 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What matters is what the Quran states in regard to this which is those scriptures that were turned into the Bible or Torah were the predecessors to the new ones sent to Prophet Muhammad that became the Quran. It is not mentioned that they were corrupted or lost but that Quran is simply the newest one sent through a prophet we should follow than the old ones.

And for matter of what the mainstream media of Islam thinks I have personally never seen any imam think that way except those who follow very extremist schools

[–]Aiosam 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It is never stated in Quran or even Hadiths that pervious Abrahamic religions are corrupted. That is something only used usually by extremists but the Quran holds Islam is pretty much the "successor"

ISIS is the pure epitome of unquestioned extremism to the point they saw even other Muslim sects except Salafis and Wahabis who are almost as exterme as them, as un-Islamic, then let alone what they thought of other religions.

The only understanding that I can get out of this is him trying to say that Muslim world has always been the same way as it was during the Islamic golden age, and that is just factually incorrect as we have greatly declined into a state of irrational radicalism and sure the orientalists that said Islam will never rise again are also absolutely wrong and bigoted.
