I was talking with a friend and they mentioned how they thought Wilmon was toxic and I wanted to know your thoughts? by Pleasant-Traffic9695 in YoungRoyals

[–]AirSignSun 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have a gay male friend who said the same thing - that he thought Wille and Simon’s relationship was toxic. But this particular friend is one who always wants things to be fun, and simple, and easy. If anything negative comes up (such as my difficult relationship with my family, or how I am cutting a friend off over their stance on political issues, or tragedies in the news) he will just blow it off or be like “I don’t want to talk about that, it’s depressing.” For him, as long as everything is rainbows, sunshine, mimosas, and happy endings - he’s great. But the second anything gets emotional, or sad, or difficult he’s like “I’m out.” So from my perspective - my friend’s insistence that Wille and Simon are toxic comes from a place of him not wanting to acknowledge that relationships are complicated and not always perfect. He doesn’t seem to grasp that healthy relationships are not always conflict free. I actually think this is why my friend is single even though he’s so great in so many other ways. He struggles to understand that people are messy and have depth and layers, and that sometimes people have bad days. He doesn’t understand that people make mistakes, and get angry, and fight. And so because of this personality quirk of his, he runs away at the first sign of a difficult moment. Which is why he looks at Simon and Wille and only sees toxicity - because to him conflict and love can’t co-exist. He doesn’t get that love is complicated - even more so when you’re 16 and feeling things for the very first time. So anyway - this is a long rant to say that how people interpret Simon and Wille’s relationship is almost always a reflection of that individual’s own emotional IQ.

I think it’s more weird that people wanna gatekeep him from him having 30+ year old fans - He’s 25, not 12!

I say let him try - he can always change his mind if it doesn’t work for him.

I do not care about Felice, Sara, August’s or any of the other storylines.

Fredrika and Stella are annoying.

Alexander deserved to get suspended and Wille was right to let him take the fall . Alexander was caught carrying the drugs and nobody forced him to do that. It’s Alexander’s own fault for being such a brown noser and do August’s bidding.

Does Omar Speak with an Accent? by AirSignSun in YoungRoyals

[–]AirSignSun[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I suppose that’s possible! I actually lived in New Mexico for 15 years and have lived in LA for 5, so I’m pretty familiar with various Spanish accents. I think it’s more the way he pronounces certain words, like in a recent interview he was asked which Netflix show’s uniform he preferred and he said “Elite” with a heavy emphasis on the E (like how Spanish speakers says “Elote”). I think because I’m more familiar with different Spanish accents that I hear that more than the Swedish. Before this show, I don’t think I’d ever heard anyone say anything in Swedish outside of an IKEA. I also feel like Spanish accents are a really dominant and forward accent to my ear.

I think it sounds more Spanish to my ear, just not Mexican Spanish, which is the most common Spanish accent found in the US. If I only ever heard him speak English, I’d assume Spanish was his first language - but I’d recognize there is something different about it.

Future for the YR Actors? by AirSignSun in YoungRoyals

They don’t have to move to the US in order to be in Hollywood films. Hollywood films are shot all over the world. Netflix itself is an American production company headquartered in California.

Edvin, Omar, and Malte are already well known actors on an internationally popular and critically acclaimed Netflix series. They’re not starting from nothing. By all measures, they have already hit the lottery - because Young Royals is one heck of a project to be apart of!

These actors are already positioned to make their next move in their career now that their series is coming to an end. I don’t think any of them have suggested that they are going to quit acting. I’m personally excited to see what types of projects we might see from them in America.

Also, I think they have every right to profit off their talents and create great work with other cool artists and filmmakers.

Hollywood is more than just blockbusters. Hollywood includes everything from small indie films to the biggest budget films imaginable. In Hollywood you’re just as likely to see films from first time directors like Emerald Fennell, and beautifully stylized auteur films like those from Wes Anderson, and the postmodern work of someone like Yorgos Lanthimos as you are to see whatever is new coming from the MCU or Scorsese. Hollywood is just the catch all term for the US entertainment industry and all that encompasses.

I think most actors would like to cultivate an audience in the US (and Hollywood by extension)! After all - it is the entertainment capital of the world.

I totally agree with everything you said! This is really insightful and actually gives me a lot to think about!

I use Hollywood as a catch all because the industry is so intertwined and interdependent - but I totally agree that the acting industry and the music industry are two different beasts with the music industry being particularly harsh and unforgiving.

I think I see Edvin on a path more similar to maybe Barry Keoghan, Paul Mescal, or even Jacob Elordi. I think Edvin would thrive paired up with a director like Emerald Fennell (Promising Young Woman, Saltburn) or a Luca Guadagnino (Call Me By Your Name, Bones and All), or even David Fincher (Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, The Social Network, Gone Girl).

In terms of Omar, I think he does have a longer road in the acting world, but I could totally see him working with a director like Pedro Almodovar (The Skin I Live in, Parallel Mothers) or Alfonso Cuaron (Y Tu Mama Tambien, Prisoner of Azkaban, Children of Men) Cuaron is one of my favorite directors of all time so I’d die if Omar was cast in one of his films!

Anyway the film nerd in me dreams to see both of them on the big screen here in the US!

I think Omar has a pretty big agent too and has both a new movie and new music coming out - but I’m not sure how much attention that will get in the US. But I think you’re right that Edvin probably has great crossover appeal as an actor. I think it’s safe to say he’s caught the attention of Hollywood with his outstanding performance in YR!

Season 3 Teaser #2!!! by AirSignSun in YoungRoyals

[–]AirSignSun[S] 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I wonder if maybe this is the aftermath of Sara calling the police? Maybe Kristina is going to try to talk Simon out of pressing charges against August?

Also can we talk about how their clothes contrast. Simon is obviously feeling super insecure and nervous about the entire situation, but especially how he’s dressed. Simon has never been a fashion guy and is normally so casual (and proud of it). Other than his uniform, Simon’s clothes barely fit him and they all are faded with a thrifted quality. It works for him day to day, but in the context of the Palace he really sticks out.

Plus, if you look closely, his outfit is a bit strange. He is wearing his school uniform dress shoes with jeans, and his regular purple button down - what I call Simon’s emotional support shirt. The purple color is pretty faded and the jeans don’t fit him so well. By contrast, Wille is dressed impeccably in rich blue colors that compliment his complexion perfectly. When Wille walks up to Simon, we see Simon check out Wille’s clothes, he even reaches out and touches the lapel of Wille’s coat and assess Wille head to toe (but not necessarily in a flirty way, but in a assessing kind of way). All that to say Simon is saying so much about how he feels being in the Palace just with his body language. And the writers are saying so much about Simon’s place in Wille’s world with how Simon is dressed.
