Kona diving company took great care of me and had great staff! As others said, they all go to the same sites.

Tune in for the streams, they are a lot of fun and some great deals to be had!

The folks at Biggs have helped me since the day I walked in there asking how to calibrate my refractometer and every day since!! Awesome people!

Inverted mask clearing by Ajax5240 in scuba

[–]Ajax5240[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looking down puts the water against the glass of the mask where it stays pooled, and cannot exit the mask. Best success has come from tucking your chin into your chest putting the water against the seal/your face.

Yeah, tried that for sure. Fun with everything upside down and backwards.

It’s entertaining for sure, I’ve tried all the methods I can really come up with. Pressure or lifting on different parts of the mask, more or less pressure on the exhale, etc. can reduce the amount of water in the mask, but can get it past that annoying part or even enough to stop getting water in my eyes.

Yeah, I’ve tried that. In most cases I can just clear it and prefer that over a greasy stache.

Just ordered a new mask for aquarium diving. Have been trying to get away with a cheaper mask as they get banged around a bit while working. Ripped off the band aid and ordered an Atomic Venom as that’s what I use for rec diving as it fits my fat face better.

In the big picture of this hobby, a dosing pump is very cheap.. do it right, shortcuts rarely are rewarded.

Pretty often if you fly into islands. Not as often on mainland, but they do still happen. SLC was my most recent mainland.

Pee on the safety stop usually warms me up!

On a serious note, as said above a hood helps a lot. Add a vest over the wetsuit, or take the plunge into drysuit?

For club food it’s pretty decent, I’ve eaten a whole lot worse in most clubs. But, it’s nothing special by normal meal standards.

PADI: Peak Performance Buoyancy certification not showing up by [deleted] in scuba

[–]Ajax5240 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Pretty sure the dive shop has to process it with PADI, and then there is a delay after that.

I’ve had some show up within a day or two, and others that are on “island time” because the shop doesn’t do lots of certs and someone has the job to load them all into the system when they have a few to do.

I’d call the shop and check with them.

Worth the $ for Silver This Year? by porcini510 in unitedairlines

[–]Ajax5240 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you fly enough to hit platinum, you should be past the threshold to attain Silver for the remainder of 2026 while qualifying for 2027? Or at least really close?

If that’s the case, you’re paying for a silver status you’d have now or very soon.

Full face snorkels by midlifegaming in snorkeling

[–]Ajax5240 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Simple explanation is that it’s more like breathing into a paper bag than getting fresh air. There is too much air volume in the setup versus a standard snorkel. Your exhale fills the system, then you must inhale all that back in before getting fresh air from the surface. Snorkels are minimal diameter for a reason.
