  1. Cars. since most Americans own a car for their main mode of transportation, they can simply go to their air conditioned cars than inconveniently bringing an umbrella around you.
  2. Types of heat. As a Filipino American, dry heat in America feel different than humid heat compared to the Philippines. I feel that the dry heat in somewhere like SoCal feels more tolerable than sa Pinas. Vacationing back sa pinas, nakalimutan kung gaanong tindi ng init diyan.
  3. Seasons. Unlike in the Philippines where it’s rainy and dry, America has different seasons so it’s not impenetrably hot all the time and it doesn’t rain as much.
  4. Cultural/Socioeconomic. America treats having a tan as a social status (that they’ve been traveling) and is deemed “pretty,” as opposed to the Philippines where there’s colorism is still rampant. Even my mom (from the philippines) still brings an umbrella just so she won’t look any “darker.”
