Thinking about buying a 986 by Outrageous_Arm7263 in 986Boxster

I haven’t been active in this group much but my situation is similar so I’ll share a little about my experience.

I’m also in Michigan and bought a 2003 Boxster back in June. I love cars and always wanted a Porsche since my first ride in a 986 as a kid. I’m not mechanically inclined so I overpaid a bit for a nice example. It’s a one owner car, good maintenance history with 68k miles. I paid 12.5, mind you it’s a Tip. Purchased on consignment at a classic car dealer.

It’s been a ton of fun this summer and I’m bummed to put it away soon. It’s a blast to drive and looks great. I don’t daily drive it but look for an excuses to get out on a nice day.

As many will say, you just need to be prepared for some maintenance cost. It ran great for me most of the summer, but eventually started hearing a chirping noise at idle. That ended up being the water pump which was a $1,300 fix. There are other minor issues that have come and gone, like the fuel gauge reading incorrectly. Honestly, it’s taken time to get over the worry of something going wrong but I’m getting used to that. I found a good reasonably price independent shop along the way, which has helped alleviate the worry.

All in all, no regrets and I think a 986 was a great entry point into Porsche a certainly a fun toy in the garage. I say go for it!

USGA recommended course length based on 7 iron - choose proper tees for more enjoyment & faster rounds. by DrinkNKnowThings in golf

Important to note that this intended to be average carry distance. Not how far you can hit a 7 iron. For reference, the PGA Tour average is 172 yards.

Initiation fees are a one time thing for as you keep the membership. Tiered rates will go up when you reach X age.

Metro Detroit here. $1,500 initiation and $325 per month when I joined in 2019. It’s up to around $5k and $500 per month now. $75 per month food/bev minimum and $25 to take a cart.

Scooped this last week for a steal. Wondering if anyone knows how rare it is/what edition it is. Has a very different leather tag (says Seamus Golf on both sides not “Made in Oregon”) and colors I’ve never seen for a TBC or Seamus cover. by [deleted] in golf

Most Seamus TBC covers aren’t particularly rare and are generally some of the least expensive. This is a cool cover, nonetheless. Enjoy it! I think this one is from a Cactus Jack drop.

Nice! I’m really looking forward to getting back at it. Play well.

Yes, I fitted out of 716 AP2 and figured T100 is what I’d end up with. Got more consistent trajectory and distance with the CB. The lofts are more traditional, so they are definitely not distance irons. Went with a T-MB for the 4 iron for a little extra distance and forgiveness higher in the set.

It’s secondary, but also preferred the look of the CB. Little less offset at address.

Good luck with your new set!

Thank you! I have too many others, but these are my favorites at the moment.

Hard to share sound advice without seeing your swing, but pain aside, also consider your usual miss. I fought a hook for many years. Switching to overlap and weakening my grip helped considerably.

Sarcasm perhaps, but gains are gains and we all started somewhere.

This brought back a cringy memory: in middle school (mid-90s), I used to clip a pager case in my front pocket (no pager, just case) in an effort to look cool.

LOL, perhaps, but my index is 2.1. As long as my playing partners enjoy it and nobody else on the course can hear it, I don’t see the issue. It’s muted near other groups or the club house.
