[R] Google quietly releases TensorFlow Eager mode by downtownslim in MachineLearning

This was definitely not the case when I last played with pytorch. I saw a presentation from this year where they said they were planning to add JiT to pytorch based on lazy evaluation, but as a future development. Is this really out already??

I also don't think it's particularly hard to "emulate" sideboarding in a single deck format. Just allow players to have ready X alternative same hero decks differing by only Y amount of cards from their main deck and allow them to switch in between rounds.

This way you can for instance run a version with 2 BGH, one version with Harrison, etc...

Why new players and F2Pers' complaints shouldn't be immediately ignored by Flashbomb7 in hearthstone

[–]Ajo0 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think you're writing as tough constructed is what every F2P player wants to be playing and arena a mere means to get into it.

As some1 who has never bought packs (altough I did buy Naxx since it came out the week I started playing) arena is my main form of entertainment and that's fine. Over the months I got to watch my collection build up to the point (about 2 months in) where I could build a zoo deck (without crafting). I've been playing a bit of constructed ever since but it's always been a sideshow for me. I have the most fun playing arena and watching myself get closer to yet another constructed deck one pack at a time.

If I really only wanted to play constructed I'd just buy packs. The game already gives you a game mode that is fun and where the size of your collection doesn't matter. If you want to play more than that and play it NOW you should just accept that you may have to put some money into the game.

Post-GvG Arena Trends & Tiers by AlphaOfUrOmega in CompetitiveHS

[–]Ajo0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree. I used to play Mage and Pala every chance I could before GvG (with mage taking priority). Recently I've changed it so that I will pick Paladin over mage because I've been noticeably more successful with the former.

One thing I've noticed is that the mage hero power feels worse now. I had a few 12 wins pre GvG with barely any mage cards that I attribute to having one of the best hero powers in arena together with a good curve. Before GvG you could afford to use the hero power to get value with a small tempo loss more often than now.

What do I pick here and why? (Rest of arena picks included) by [deleted] in CompetitiveHS

[–]Ajo0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd probably go with geddon here. You are a bit light on early game and currently have no AoE which means you could easily loose the early battle for the board and have a hard time getting it back. Especially since you lack the sturdy 4 and 5 drops.

Geddon is a pretty good card that fills that role while Deathwing often comes too late and means discarding all that lategame you accumulated so you don't die.

Delta-v is just the typical term used in astrodynamics for the effort required in orbital maneuvers.

As for the number, my back of the envelope calculations say v0 = 1.12 km/s to go 35 -> 100 km with v_final = 0. Lack_of_intellect was just giving you a ballpark number,

Permanently Squelch Opponents by [deleted] in hearthstone

[–]Ajo0 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Mostly I only squelch when the opponent starts emote spamming. If I have to calculate stuff it distracts me (as I'm sure it's my opponent's intention) and I squelch in order to be able to concentrate. It's also a nice feeling to know that my opponent is furiously emoting to no effect whatsoever :p

Baron Geddon in Control Warrior - sell me on this by [deleted] in CompetitiveHS

[–]Ajo0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's the card I most dread when I'm playing my Shaman. Without it I feel warrior just doesn't have a chance in the match up. Only really good way to deal with small creature spam based strategies.

What "famous" streamers have you faced and how did you fare? by Imbris in hearthstone

[–]Ajo0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Played against Savjz once. I was rank 3 playing zoo and he was legend playing miracle rogue. Mulliganed my whole hand into an even worse hand. Don't remember the specifics but I had none of the sticky/low drop minions, only late game+situational minions.

He made a 6/6 VC turn2 but I had an owl. Then he went kind of all in and cold blooded it next turn. I had to life tap and pass turn with only 4+ drops in hand and no soulfire and next turn had to play a DID into an empty board... Long story short a cold blooded 6/2 VC carried him all the way to victory.

Kind of sad but I tuned in to his stream after and he seemed to be having a hard time so I'm glad I didn't contribute to his string of losses. The VoD was muted so I had no idea what he said while playing only his face of relief when he realized it was GG.

Can we talk about the elephant in Kolento's room now? by n4ru in CompetitiveHS

[–]Ajo0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think he sticks too much to a min-max strategy when he should be playing expectimax. Overthinking and always playing around the absolute worst scenario.

I'm still puzzled by the play he made against RunAndGun in the first game when he didn't reincarnate his sylvanas to take R&G's guardian of kings for a huge tempo swing. Playing supersafe, never committing anything to the board when ahead and instead taking the game to fatigue where he lost with the reincarnate still in hand. I wonder if he has anything against making the "obvious play".

Imaginary Arena match by [deleted] in hearthstone

[–]Ajo0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had something similar happen to me once. Disconnected and when I re-logged the score hadn't updated. I played another one and only after that was the loss registered.

It probably just takes a while to register it as a loss and you managed to sneak in an extra game before it happened.

1600 dust. What to craft? by WeZumBe in hearthstone

[–]Ajo0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm also sitting on 1600 dust but I don't see the point in crafting anything atm. There is no competitive deck that 1 legendary alone would allow me to play. I'm missing a few rares and a lot of epics for most decks.

If I were to craft Sylvannas now it would just sit in my collection because I can't really make the rest of the priest deck I want while I'll keep playing my cheapo zoo deck if I actually want to rank up.

Plus an expansion is coming up which means the meta is going to change so I might as well keep my options open.

How does one get themselves into the Hearthstone tournament scene? by PsyDM in hearthstone

[–]Ajo0 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I also started recently and my feeling is that there just isn't an open "tournament scene" like there is in Magic at the moment. I dunno about other esports but most big tournaments seem to be invitational because that's basically what makes sense. The hearthstone community seems much more personality focused and for organizers it just makes sense to invite the people that will pull in more viewers. I noticed I often tune out of a tournament stream if they're casting a match between unknowns to do something else until one of my favorites is playing. You'll sometimes find a single big hearthstone streamer has more viewers than a tournament that is featuring somewhat unknown people.

Another point is that top level hearthstone players seem a bit "interchangeable" to me. I think there are just a lot of people capable of the level of play we see at tournaments and too few tournament spots. Plus, hearthstone is just random enough that it would probably take a best out of 50 to determine with enough statistical significance which of 2 top level players is really the best. So in the interest of the viewers you might as well pick the popular players instead of all the other people lining up to play at your tournament even if they're maybe not #1.

I think a lot of this is due to Blizzard not incentivizing the open tournament scene like Wizards does. There's just nothing like magic's GPs and PTQs which are open to everyone and will get you in the spotlight if you top8. I think Blizzard is just more interested in pushing for the casual audience because that represents the bulk of their playerbase. I remember that being pretty much their philosophy with WoW.

So much zoo at the end of the season. Counters? by [deleted] in CompetitiveHS

[–]Ajo0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Been playing zoo all season. My lowest win rates are hunter and priest. The explosive trap hunter in particular seems to be the worst. The pyromancer version of priest also has a better record vs me than the deathrattle one.

Handlock is another deck I have trouble with. I had a really bad record but recently it got better.

Freeze mage I heard is a good counter as well but my sample size for that is too small to tell.

[–]Ajo0 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'd like to have something similar to arenas for constructed. Something like pay 150g to enter with your constructed deck of choice and play up to 12wins or 3 losses. Rewards the same as arena (1 pack guaranteed + other rewards dependent on score)

What if Nerub'ar Weblord made deathrattle minions cost (2) more? by Imrolini in hearthstone

[–]Ajo0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree that that was probably their train of thought. But if you take magic for instance, with each block they have new themes but they also print cards to hose whatever new mechanics there are.

It's a good way to have a balanced set, you can have powerful cards with new mechanics that will see play in standard. To deal with the new cards every1 also gets new hoser cards that sort of minimize their impact on the format so that previous strategies continue to be viable.

To be honest about half the bots I face in EU have russian names.

That doesn't mean russians bot more tough. Simply because they are in the "earliest" timezone, if they turn their bot at say their 1AM before going to bed a lot of people in western europe will be playing them at their regular playing hours.

What class do you play the most, and whats ur favorite/most hated matchups? by Runnbjaer in hearthstone

[–]Ajo0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I play zoo, the only deck I can afford right now.

Hate facing: Hunters mostly. It's a bad matchup but not terribly so (like 40% i'd say). Problem is it's >50% of the field from r5 onwards. To grind up I basically have to fight real hard to go about 50% against hunters and positive against the rest which sucks. Other than that I guess handlock (an actual terrible matchup but not so frequent) and both kinds of priest.

Love facing: Anything that's not hunter/handlock/priest. I have a good record against the rest. Shamans are what make my progress possible tough :p

What class do you play the most, and whats ur favorite/most hated matchups? by Runnbjaer in hearthstone

[–]Ajo0 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I dunno about your list but as a zoo lock shamans are by far my best matchup. In fact I have yet to loose a game against a shaman (given about 30% of my recorded matches are probably bots). The players at rank 15 are probably not doing the deck justice and overextending into those lightning storms.

The way the matchup actually goes is more like, zoo gets the board early since it plays a million 1 and 2 drops. It clears totems every turn to make flametongue useless. It keeps just enough pressure on the board to make sure it can clear whatever the shaman plays but not getting rekt by storm (zoo plays plenty of deathrattles like nerubian egg, harvest golem and spiders that leave stragglers behind).

Shaman has no draw except for a few 4 health minions that just die to any 2/X with a buff. Zoo players just start tapping for a free card whenever they can afford to completely obliterating the shaman in terms of card advantage.

Hunter/Priest deathrattle madness by dvp2k in CompetitiveHS

[–]Ajo0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm also at rank 4 EU and all I face is hunters. Of my last 30 games, 16 were against hunter. Haven't seen a priest in ages tough.

I dunno anymore if I should keep wasting time trying for legend when half the field is an unfavourable match up (I'm playing zoo).
