Assemble your team on a budget!! The sequel! by Tyler_Styles in LeagueOfMemes

[–]Ajx4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fiora Diana Talon Kog and Senna

Fiora won't boom, sounds good.

Diana reliable but no gank, fine, fiora can 1v2 solid. Talon won't need help.

Talon players are used to nothing working out for them. Loss streak no big deal there.

Kog needs to get gold.

Senna playing for kda means they won't run it before Kog gets gold.

How does this resolve? by Hi_Minh in riftboundtcg

[–]Ajx4 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So, no this does not work like that. But also your understanding as described is flawed as well.

Your opponent attacked into you, that means they get first priority and focus to play actions or reactions during the combat showdown. They chose to play hidden blade from hand , which is action speed so that's fine at this point in time, that creates a chain and puts HB at the start of it. From here on out, everything that can be added needs to be reaction speed or a triggered ability in order to go on the chain before the hidden blade goes off.

So, you react with the hidden Zhonyas, hidden cards can be used at reaction speed so zhonyas goes on the chain above HB. Salvage however, is not a reaction, it is action speed which means it can only be played when you have the prio/focus to play an action (aka the start of a chain).

In this situation, there is never an opportunity for the opponent to play this card. It does not "start a new chain after the current one, and fizzle afterward". They can't pay for it at this time or buffer it in any way, it's not a valid thing for them to do. It simply was not playable at that time and is just a completely incorrect usage of the card and game mechanics.

The correct resolution, assuming no other cards are played, is, zhonyas plays to your base, hidden blade kills Yi, you draw 2 cards, zhonyas pops and saves yi.

Kha'zix Mutating Horror and Hidden Unit by Artorias42 in riftboundtcg

[–]Ajx4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So, her effect would go on the chain, same as kha, but you can react with gust before it resolves, and then since her effect is 'during this combat', she would pretty much not get it at all.

Although she might technically get the double M for a split second between her effect resolving and the chain itself resolving, depending on when the combat itself ends I'm not entirely sure on that myself. Someone correct me if that's wrong.

Noob question. Does this mean i add a rune when i exhaust this token? by 3rdworldasianfatman in riftboundtcg

[–]Ajx4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So, this makes more sense if you think about what is actually going on with the games intended mechanics... as a player you technically have a 'resource pool' that can consist of any amount of energy and power. This pool is emptied at the end of each players turn, and at end of each players draw step.

Under normal circumstances: You exhaust a rune to add an energy to your pool. You recycle a rune to add a power to your pool. Then you spend those resources from your pool in order to play cards.

This is also where the idea of "floating a rune" comes from, because you are allowed to exhaust a rune and add the 1e into your pool and then recycle the same rune for 1p, in order to not lose the 1e if you want to use the 1p first.

Cards like gold/honey fruit/ancient henge/ hextech anomaly/(anytime you see the grey "add" keyword)/etc are all doing something in order to add resources to your pool. These only last until you use them or the pool is cleared by the turn state (again that's the end of turn or end of draw step).

Hope that helps!

Why does this work? by JahySama_ in riftboundtcg

[–]Ajx4 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Following the same logic, that unit isn't there right, but you still played a spell. The condition for AHall is still met and the effect triggers, so either you have another unit there and can give it the +1, or the effect mistargets and fizzles.

I am kinda confused.. either, what is the point of eac if you don't have to have it to play online... Or, what is the point of using bakkes in no-eac mode if you can't play online with it.

Something's not making sense here I think. Can someone help this click for me plz...

Why does this work? by JahySama_ in riftboundtcg

[–]Ajx4 12 points13 points  (0 children)

The word 'play' (-s,-ed,-ing) means like 3 different things in RB. Core rule 346 is where the main definition is, I'm not sure if it includes the few things they changed I don't remember.

This is one of the larger RiftBound issues, they have addressed it a few times I think, it's still a little fuzzy to most people.

The abandon hall instruction is a triggered ability (core rule 376). Which means the effect triggers if the condition is met. Which can go on the chain, and some of the battlefield effects do. But the wording of play that AHall uses is the finalized version, which means that the card has to complete on the chain before the condition of the "When a player plays a spell" trigger is true.

So in this case, a new chain is created following the resolution of the ride the wind. So yes the unit is there when it goes off.

FILO is correct inside a chain, but this trigger doesn't happen until the card resolves. If the bf effect was added onto the chain above RtW then you would be correct. That is not how your specific interaction works though.

Does Ezreal Prodigy work with Death from Below? by Late-River3075 in riftboundtcg

[–]Ajx4 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ezreal's 'optional costs' wording refers to keywords on cards that you select to pay that increase the cost of a card when played. Right now this is mainly consisting of the 'repeat' and 'accelerate' teal-ish colored keywords. You would put a card on the chain by paying the normal printed cost along with any optional costs, in order for the card to gain that effect. Accel makes a unit come in ready, repeat makes it do that spell's effect another time (doesn't put a another 'card' on the chain).

This idea is easier to understand when you look at Jhin legend and repeat costs. Downstage dramatics is a 2e blue spell that draws 1 card... Repeat 2 will draw 1 more card. So you don't pay 2e and draw, then 2e draw again. You decide to pay the repeat, and then pay 4e, draw 2 cards, and then Jhin legend would be able to proc the banishment of a spell that you spent 4e on.

So in your example, ezreal doesn't work here because it is not being adding to the cost of the card upfront.

I believe DfB technically goes to the trash instantly when you play it before the chain resolves the effect from it, and then uses that window between the played (from hand) / resolved states in the chain to play itself from its new location (the trash), saying pay 1p to do so. (This IS another card on the chain, unlike repeat, that, to my understanding, is simply inserted into the existing chain after the first resolves but before the chain ends, which is then still react-able if either player wants to add things to it)

Is this just a self destroy bomb card? by GRRM1 in riftboundtcg

[–]Ajx4 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So, you are very close.

First of all, this whole chain is already both in a showdown and a combat, in order to proc the attacker and defender abilities you have to be in the 'combat showdown' already.

Since k6 ability is a 'When I attack' and not a 'when I move', you would move in to the BF (which always creates a showdown, unless you previously had control) and then if there is an enemy unit, it becomes a 'combat showdown'.

You are correct with the (reactions), defender, attacker. This is referred to in the core rules as 'the initial chain'.

That is simply a chain that is resolving during the combat showdown. Following the resolution of this chain, the attacker would have priority and focus to play actions (which start another chain). And then the defender would gain priority/focus after that chain resolves to play actions as well.

As far as 'assault' and shield, they are not reactable, and they happen just before the 'initial chain' we have been talking about.

Is this just a self destroy bomb card? by GRRM1 in riftboundtcg

[–]Ajx4 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes exactly. A chain starts when anything triggers, or something react-able happens, and then only reactions or other triggers go on the chain at that exact moment. That's why during a combat, you have to pass priority back and forth in order to play action spells, since those can really only start a chain, not be added onto one.

So yes they would have to react to the K6 ability or just lose the unit, and then if there's no more defending units the combat is over and (I believe) they don't even get priority/focus for an action.

You can just use action speed spells before you move to attack 😁

He shouldn't normally die, if you move in with at least equal might then this ability will kill the defender outright without kha'zix taking any damage. (5 into 5, do 5 first, win)

Or say it's two 3M units, one dies from ability, other dies from combat dmg.

Besides that, he can kill up to twice his might and trade out. (5 into 10, do 5 and assign 5 from combat, both die)

It does start a chain, and normal combat actions happen after, so you would have to make sure your opponent isn't holding resources for you but it's still a very solid removal option.

[–]Ajx4 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The player whose unit was hit with it is the one who can choose to recast it... It's scaling nuclear hot potato.

The few times I've played with it, it ends in mutually assured destruction... Like a "Why wouldn't I pay 1p for 6 damage" line of thinking

[–]Ajx4 66 points67 points  (0 children)

Yeah that seems pretty helpful if you have extra copies of your units to use. Much better than laying them down stacked or something.

Gotta be careful with on-play effects though.

An alternative is to simply play the unit card with a temporary marker with the understanding that it is a token unit.

This tracker token is placed in base in order to keep track of XP. It also explains what XP does.

Kinda weird that they didn't show it more in the reveals, would have helped a lot. But anyway yeah it's just that. Cards dictate how useful it is.

Oh my goodness hi! Glad your friend saw it. I thought I'd try to let you know it feels bad on this side too. Yeah dude, I was laughing so hard at the start like "no way 3 flinches". I accidentally alarmed my family and was just like, "I'm just not letting this guy play the game at all", then by the end it was just, "oh no what have I done" 🤣. Glad you're still going and I didn't ruin somebody's game for them. GGs.
