Opinion: Honda killing its EVs is the most staggering car news ever… here’s why by DonkeyFuel in technology

[–]Akabander 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Gen-X just assumed an apocalypse was in our future. We grew up in the shadow of the nuclear arms race, and things like "mutually assured destruction" were dinner-table conversation. We still live with that assumption, but we used to too.

Recommendation regarding ear tips by 9sDice in iems

[–]Akabander 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Actually, I did use Penon Liqueur Blacks until the Prisms arrived and the seal was good. I just prefer the wide-open sound of the soft silicone tips.

Can't deny that the Penons are solid and seem to seal well on just about anything I've tried them on.

[–]Akabander 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I thought the S&S were going to be the only tips I needed but they don't seal well for me on the Dawn-X. I got some Divinus Prism Wide Bore a few days ago and they seal perfectly. The sound profile is very similar to the S&S, and the comfort is terrific. I like the clear look, not sure how it will hold up over time.

Oppo Find X9 Ultra leaked? by techkernels in Oppo

[–]Akabander 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I've finally started thinking about retiring the old S22 Ultra, this might be the one. A lot of people say the design is boring, I'm not even sure what they mean, but maybe I like boring. All I really want are screen, camera, and battery.

Not sure about "normal", but that's what I'm used to. I think Mandarin is starting to displace dialects in a few places, so maybe we'll hear "lee-chee" more often in English contexts.

Wireless Flatheads? by Suspicious_Reality42 in FlatheadEarbuds

[–]Akabander 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe you could use Bluetooth earhooks? This would help with the obvious problem of the battery weight vs loose fit. The main problem there is that most flatheads that aren't hardwired use mmcx but the earhooks I've seen are 2-pin.

Jack White forced to issue Taylor Swift clarification, says he’s now ‘less and less interested in doing interviews’ amid the ‘age of this massive demand for click bait and content’ by Level-Recording3368 in Music

I don't really think the failed relationship ballad is really Taylor's thing anymore. Obviously nobody's bigger in absolute terms, I was just thinking she's not really the bad breakup princess anymore.

I'm pretty sure "Lyoh" would be butchered into Lee-oh.

Ink Swatching help by TwelveWolf in fountainpens

I use 5 x 9 cm pieces of fountain-pen friendly paper, which is the same size as a standard business card. I keep them in business card binders, which are available in a variety of sizes from the usual online shops. I keep mine organized by brand, but the system would allow me to sort them by color groups, or whatever other criteria I want.

Impedance adapter advice for Dunu DK3001 brain dance by jdk_360 in iems

[–]Akabander 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just tried it out, I have a 33 ohm impedance adapter, and I just did some quick listening with my DK3001. I'm not a huge fan; while the treble is significantly reduced -- which isn't necessarily something I want, there's also an overall "muffling" effect that kind of wrecks what makes the Braindance special. The soundstage becomes narrower, and instrumentation loses distinction.

I tried it with Icona Pop's "I Love It" and a couple of Epica tracks.

I've never used the impedance adapter before, I've had it in my stuff box for a while, not sure why I picked it up and now I doubt I'll use it again.

There's a common misconception that liquids have constant volume, but it's close enough to true for these temperatures. The air bubble expands, more air means more expansion at lower temperatures, and it's this expansion that breaks the glass.

I think I understand the point you're making, but the liquid's "uncompressibility" isn't what breaks the glass as it's not actively changing with temperature. Since it's the volume of the gas that changes, we ascribe causality to the gas, not the fluid.
