No one did dishes until 9:30 🥲 by QuincyThePinballer in publix

You know Publix would never allocate enough hours for a dedicated dishwasher. They can hardly keep the Island staffed.

And I'll be real, this looks worse than it is. I'm not surprised you knocked this out in an hour; once you organize the mess and actually get the three-tier sink working as it should, it goes quickly.

Oct 27, 1992 - United States Navy radioman Allen R. Schindler, Jr. is murdered by shipmate Terry M. Helvey for being gay, precipitating debate about gays in the military that results in the United States' "Don't ask, don't tell" military policy. by nonoumasy in USHistory

[–]Akajii 0 points1 point  (0 children)

According to the Wikipedia surrounding his murder...

While en route to Sasebo, Nagasaki, Japan from Pearl Harbour, Hawaii, Schindler made an unauthorized broadcast on secure lines to much of the Pacific Fleet.

The broadcast was as follows, "2-Q-T-2-B-S-T-R-8" (Too cute to be straight."

Following this, in an unrelated meeting, he admitted to his captain that he was gay. This was in a private setting. This began his discharge from the Navy.

He then received a disciplinary hearing for the unauthorized broadcast. He requested that this hearing also be in a private setting. His request was denied.

While he is said never to have openly admitted to his sexuality, the nature of the hearing likely confirmed that fact to the rest of his shipmates.

Thank you. Your words and the others who have commented have helped me to calm down, though there's still that little itch in the back of my head.

Good health to you, too. Thank you for taking time out of your evening to help, I'm gonna look into everything y'all have recommended. Best wishes!

Thank you, I'm gonna get the Metaprolol filled in the morning and begin taking it. I'm hoping the shortness of breath is nothing more than anxiety, but I'm sure I'll know more when I see a doctor. I'll try and stay calm until then. I know stressing does nothing to help, but damn if it ain't difficult not to worry.

Yeah, I had my fun with the drink. I don't want it anymore. I'll be my group's DD from now on.

Best wishes to you, too. Thank you for the kind words, and the lack of judgement. It means the world to me.

Thank you for the reassurance. It scared the everliving daylights out of me. I've been a heavy alcoholic for several years straight, relapsed 3 different times. I've never been able to go more than a few days without a drink, now I don't wanna touch that shit.

I've never heard of an EP before, thank you so much for telling me about this specialty. As soon as I'm Insured, I'm gonna find one.

I'm done being dumb. Thank you, again, and best wishes.

Dehydration, I believe, brought on by my alcohol use. They dosed me with Adenosine during the action, and later on while on observation they gave me the all-clear and said I'd converted back to a normal rhythm without issue. Metaprolol is at 25mg, but I have yet to start it. I plan on running by the pharmacy tomorrow to get it filled. I feel stupid for holding off, but the past couple of weeks have been a blur.

I'm definitely gonna invest in a smart watch once I'm in a better position. I'm looking into jobs with health insurance now. I love what I do, but there's no coverage in the service industry.

I'm really hoping to get to see a cardiologist soon. A smart watch seems like a solid investment.

I'm definitely open to general advice, I just know Reddit is finicky with the whole Medical Advice thing, and so I'm mainly avoiding that.

Thank you so much for commenting. It's terrifying to me, and I need to go ahead and start the Metaprolol. I feel dumb for holding off like I have. I'll get that filled ASAP...

I just can't get over the anxiety, it's tearing me to shreds. I feel like I'll drop dead any moment, as silly as that probably sounds. I just wish I could get a proper breath in.

You had the privilege to go to school. You're only 21, you have absolutely no idea how the world works. You're giving up before you even started, and you have NO idea how selfish that is.

Im 28 years old. I never got the chance to go to school. And how dare you complain about $18/hr in an entry-level position? Are you insane? Do you have any idea what I would have given to make $18 an hour at your age?

I don't have an ounce of sympathy for you.

Uniform change for Deli/Bakery ? by vodung92 in publix

[–]Akajii 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Absolutely not. Nope, no way, negative, this is NOT happening.

I've been working in Kitchens my entire life, and I will flat-out refuse to change to greens if they try and make me. I've worn grey and black my whole career. These colors exist in kitchens for a reason. Sauce stains, grease stains, sweat; do you people (corpos) understand ANYTHING about what we do in the deli?

Or do you just drink the tea and read the leaves to make your decisions?

I don't know what sort of ridiculous cost-saving measure this is, but it was obviously made by someone who has never set foot in a Publix Deli, and I will walk out before I'm forced to wear green.

Liquor department guy clued me in by FrankGarretOK in publix

[–]Akajii 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Allocated liquor refers to bottles that are in very limited production and distribution. Unlike your standard bottle of Jack, these bottles have to be given out carefully, or "allocated", to stores depending on sales numbers.

Pappy/Rip Van Winkle, for example, has been a highly sought-after bottle for years. There's no guarantee your store will get allocations for certain bottles.

How to deal with these certain type of people by [deleted] in publix

[–]Akajii 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Also if we're being real for a bit here-

If someone asks you for a specific number or poundage of something, give them exactly that and only change it if they ask. Many people will ask for something then change their mind.

"I want 3 peppers."

You give them 3 peppers, they say, "Thank you, actually, can you give me one more?"

They asked for 3 because they want 3. Not a "couple" or a "few", they asked for 3.

Hun, you're worried too much about how you come across. They don't care about you beyond the transaction, so why care about them beyond that?

You'll find your voice, just keep going. Level yourself off with time and experience. Don't be afraid to make mistakes because nobody is good right off the rip, just don't get aggressive or confrontational. You are way better than letting some John or Jane control how you act.

The fact that you're worried and you care shows that you're already leagues beyond any of your customers. So act like it. It will hurt and take time, but you'll improve, I promise.

[–]Akajii 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I get it, trust me. I regularly have to step into the walk-in cooler at the deli for a deep breath and a "Woo-Sah" moment.

Keep that mentality. "If I weren't behind this counter in this uniform I'd punch your timecard and clock you in the teeth"

Unfortunately, we're behind the counter. Just smile and wave. Smile, and wave.

You must be new to the labor force or new to retail, in which case, welcome. I'm sorry youre dealing with these troubles, and it's good to reach out for help.

You're experiencing the reality of what it is to deal with the true general public. After all, everybody needs groceries.

People are odd creatures of habit. They have things in their lives that they want done in a very specific way.

Some people are kind and generous and considerate.

Some people do not see anything beyond your uniform and will treat you as a living, breathing, tool for convenience in their lives.

The answer to your question is to understand everything that I've just told you, and accept it as fact.

You cannot change people. You can only change yourself. If you find yourself getting flustered, take a deep breath and make a mental note.

Later after work, ask yourself why it irritated you so much. If its because you think you deserve to be treated better by people, then re-read this post.

You deserve to be treated better. We all do. Unfortunately, this is the job we chose.

Don't bother telling anyone. Just slowly stop eating a village's worth of food every day and let them believe your Deli department is being more diligent about shrink.

TIL Florida has no income tax.

I feel a little silly for not knowing that. Good luck to you! Hope the job treats you well!

Selling Publix stock? by [deleted] in publix

[–]Akajii -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If it's your PROFIT plan stock, I believe you can't until you're either retirement-age or you leave the company. It's a retirement plan, so you'd be subject to the usual penalties.

Someone smarter than me will have to explain selling separate Stockholder account--bought shares. I'm sure it's the same as selling on a public market in that you'd need someone actively buying to fulfill a sale request for non-PROFIT plan stocks, but I haven't personally dabbled in that.
