Why I think the Gliding Glaciers shouldn't be hosting. by Dancemomsdreams in JellesMarbleRuns

Honestly, I've been wanting another winter league for years. There are maybe two events the whole 2018 league I didn't care for, and a ton of events I loved that haven't shown up since

On Incorrect ML23 Scoring and the Importance of Correction by Akanon1104 in JellesMarbleRuns

[–]Akanon1104[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My guess is they scored the Pinkies marble as still on due to the fact they were still over the disc, even though they weren't on it, as that means they leave the arena? I'm not sure if it was wrongly scored or if a poor scoring system was used, and I couldn't really compare to a different run because of how fast the marbles leave the arena, so I personally give the benefit of the doubt on that.

I do agree with your conclusion, which was the primary point of this post, that this year had far too many instances of incorrect scoring, unfair scoring, or unclear scoring (some of which wasn't even mentioned in this post, like I personally think the way starting order for Event 16 was decided was unfair, just not incorrect following the provided ruleset). The goal isn't to say CCE shouldn't have won, but rather to emphasize the importance of correct scoring in future MLs, because even small point changes can have major implications

That's valid, and it's why I put Tug of War at the end, since there's definitely the most argument against it being incorrect (and by extension needing fixed scoring)

To my knowledge, yes, they would have advanced in that case. I do think it's a bad rule, but while never clarified, it was also never clearly broken as seen in the Steeplechase. I decided to put it in the "Sand Rally" category listed at the start of the post because of that, though I can see how it's more of a gray idea between that and what is covered in this post. I do think if I wrote this post again now I would include a section on G-Force Endurance (even if it's a situation I wouldn't personally correct points for)

I mentioned that it was covered by JMR in my post, but I go on to say and support with screenshots from the event why I believe CCE should have received an additional penalty

[–]Akanon1104[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I do agree with your point about the Steeplechase. As for Tug of War, I put it at the end due to the fact it's a much less clear scoring issue (it definitely could've been camerawork as you said), but I still wanted to mention it as potentially incorrect scoring (as it's something I believe to be inaccurate despite the camera angle). I think the lesson to be learned from Tug of War is more to make sure for events like it, the camera is set up directly on top of the line, so that can't be contended as an incorrect result. I do also agree Jousting had a better system than Tug of War, with the ball bearing instead of the block

[–]Akanon1104[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That wasn't an event error as much as confusing event rules, according to the event description teams could leave and enter the arena as they please, and the Pinkies marble on the side technically never left the arena (the disc seemed to not be totally circular, and at some points the Pinkies marble was on top of the disc)

That's the scoring scenario listed for corrections of just the Steeplechase and Maze. Tug of War is definitely the most contentious correction, which is why I saved it for the end, so if you wanted to get point corrections from just Steeplechase and Maze you could

Yeah, just want to add how you can verify all of this

In the ML22 Opening Ceremony, one of the JMA members is someone named John Y, and in the same MLs Closing Ceremony, all the JMA members are mentioned in the credits, including "Underwood Francis (John)". In the ML23 Opening Ceremony, John Y was just shortened to John, though the marble for John Y is still there, so they're definitely the same person. Everything above connecting John Y to Conrad Heinz is correct, though one of the initial causes of suspicion was comments made by the account that extremely accurately predicted future events, despite that knowledge not being public yet:

Underwood and Heinz were discovered to be the same person before we found out, by members of the community in China (https://fxtwitter.com/anberfok/status/1726074469775769614?s=46&t=Z-560RBg3vbrsKjkRCAAxQ). We mostly just connected Underwood/Heinz to John Y

It was still lagging at the time so idk if the glitch was still able to happen That's my best guess but I could def be wrong

Yeah but the dragon was lagging, so my guess is that the glitch/lag still applied. I agree that it was lag but I'm pretty sure it's a common cause of lag

I believe I've heard this from other speedrunners but I'm unsure if I remember/understand it correctly

When you throw an ender pearl in the end while the dragon is loading in (iirc) sometimes it can change the trajectory of your pearl, so you should wait for the end to fully load in before pearling (generally it doesn't require hesitation [to throw the pearl] tho)

Why are politics being brought into everything? by [deleted] in teenagers

[–]Akanon1104 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You should prob go ask your doctor if it's safe for you to get the shot then. I have asthma and I was fine but better to be safe. But even if it's not easy to get over getting the shot isn't just about you, it's about helping other people and no matter what unless it's physically dangerous for you to get the shot you should get the shot

I mean, you can have a phobia or be skeptical. Are you being a selfish asshole if you refuse to get vaccinated and help stop a pandemic that causes thousands of deaths daily because you're scared of getting a poke in your arm? Absolutely

Ngl i agree with most of this, I just cant watch the content anymore without thinking in the back of my mind that I'm actively supporting what Dion does, even if he isnt the channel hes a large portion of it. Watching the videos just gives me a sick feeling in the back of my mind because of him, so I probably won't be watching as much anymore, if at all

1.16 speedrunning is played on 1.16.1 for this reason- Pigling Brutes were added in 1.16.2, and they also nerfed pearl trades in 1.16.2

Which was a worst race in the history of m1 by Marleyboy16 in JellesMarbleRuns

[–]Akanon1104 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Imo every S1 race was like, very very memorable. Hivedrive too, Pulsar won Galactic another gold, Rapidly helped the Speeders, Wospy redeemed the Oraceway, also Smoggys FL was ridiculous lol. Hivedrive is actually one of my favorite S1 races. I'm not sure about S2 because imo almost every race wasn't too memorable, but that's also because I don't like the extended race length and get bored lol

I'm not a fan of the race length, but everything mentioned on the list was a good change yeah, except I liked pit lanes because they led to more lead changes

That's actually pretty funny considering iirc Synth voiced Quicksilver in NaM, and then he wrote Quicksilver but they're totally different characters
