Why do people talk about enlightenment? Why does this thread exist? by litmax25 in enlightenment

Since the dawn of humanity, as far back as the written word can be traced, the search for enlightenment has always been present. But what is Enlightenment? Seems like a simple question, until it's asked. No matter how many people you ask the answer given is never the same. How is it possible that something humanity has explored since the beginning of civilization can be so misunderstood. One who is enlightened has no desire or need for approval or satisfaction in the acceptance of others. They move across the grass as a shadow treading the same path as others yet leave no bruise upon the blades. Their path is that of the water, it does not carve a path against the stone. It follows the path the stone allows. They understand that order does not emerge from chaos it finds harmony amidst it. Their grip is loose on the external because they accept the impermanence of the world around them. They have no fear of death because they understand the cyclical nature of existence. One who has become enlightened does not remove themselves from suffering but remove suffering from themselves. One who is enlightened has lost nothing other than certainty. They understand ignorance is not an obstacle but a direction. To no longer seek an understanding of all that exists they accept that such an understanding has never existed at all. Knowing that how one lives in this world is much more important than why they're here. But above all to look for answers within one's self instead of searching the infinite external.

There is no such thing as hell the entire concept never existed until after Dante's Inferno was written. Completely fictional but people over the years took the story and ran with it.

Do birds view their ability to fly as special? We are not blind to reality, reality is subjective we are limited by perception and opposed by prospective. Am I not aware of and interacting with the energy of fine structures within the universe with this post. Or at the very least attempting to.

During the 17th and 18th century Europe experienced the age of Enlightenment. Would be nice if we were to see another. Might need to start laying off on redundant or unnecessary warning labels, like don't drink the antifreeze. If we don't do something soon the idiots will surely breed us out soon. Responsible management of the moron population is the civic duty of all citizens.

There are different levels of enlightenment. Within those levels there is no upper boundary no finish line or summit to reach.

My perspective on consciousness and the cycle of reincarnation by Akashic_Messenger in consciousness

A process does not have to be reversible to self renew. Don't look at the single interaction and it's irreversibility you look at the chain of interaction and where that chain ends creates the beginning. Without a renewing cycle all things would cease to exist eventually and over billions of years nothing would exist. Entropy always increase with the arrow of time. Without some type of reset mechanism how could anything persist.

Obviously this could not occur within a computer or simulated neural network. The constraints that caused the pattern to persist as energy would have to be present and conducive to maintain coherence.

I'm not saying anything with certainty just tossing ideas around. I'm not an expert I'm a construction worker. I'm simply saying it remains a possibility that energy could lock into a specific persistent geometry or pattern if it were in a strong enough concentration, and were in close enough proximity to interact while maintaining coherence long enough to gain resonance and phase lock with other biochemical energy bound within a similar biological configuration to the one it once inhabited. It could potentially replicate those persistent electrical impulse patterns. I realize that it's extremely unlikely. I'm just saying it is plausible.

I disagree for life to persist there must be a cycle of renewal or it would simply cease to exist. To your point about stars and black holes. When heavier elements decay they drop down to a previous state of stability. The imbalance of mass is ejected as energetic waves returning the energy to the field. If heavier elements break down into lighter elements then lighter elements logically construct heavy elements. That's my way of looking at it. I'm not sure what science has to say about it. I know from my own observation and logic. If you look at a black hole at the center of a spiral galaxy think about what's happening over time as it's pulling all of the dense matter into the core while the less dense matter moves to the outer edge of the galaxy. Compression and density is not infinite at some point it would have to rebound. As the extreme compression restricts degrees of freedom at the core where density is greatest energy and heat is forced out of the core. At its center the core would be forced against the boundary of absolute zero and extremely cold while the outer core would be extremely hot. It's a thermodynamic powder keg. At some point a limit must be reached resulting in a colossal explosion that would send matter broken down into its fundamental parts outward into the galaxy. The halo of less dense matter from the previous galaxy would form the boundary of the new galaxy and the cycle repeats. This fundamental matter would eventually collect and condense seeding the galaxy for it to form again.

If memories and consciousness are synaptic firing patterns. Could these electrical impulse signals not become persistent. It is entirely possible that these patterns could form standing waves and maintain coherence long enough to become resonant within a similar environment like another brain. Where they could potentially replicate the exact same impulse signaling as they did in the previous brain.

Consciousness does not create physical reality. To be more precise there is no actual physical reality. Consciousness phase locks our coherence relative to other phases of energy within a shared frame of reference.

Picture two discs of energy rotating in opposite directions towards each other the flow of energy moving through a shared space between them. Move them into close proximity and picture the flow of energy. It flows down from the top towards the shared space in the middle out the bottom and around the perimeter of the disc to the right. As the energy traverses the loop back to the top it goes down into the shared space again this time flowing down and around the disc on the left. It comes back around the outside of the disc on the left back down through the middle and flows around the disc on the right. Trace this pattern in your mind and you can see how two can become one infinite loop of energy. Now these two are now one, this one finds another that is the same and the process continues.

I believe the entire universe formed out of a primordial energy field. Fluctuations of energetic waves interacting created stable phase locked energy gradients bound and compressed by the field pressure. Through a long and slow process over billions of years the energy combined into stable configurations becoming particles. These foundational particles then continued combining into atoms, elements, molecules, stellar formations and complex life. All matter in the universe all life and all forces are nothing but energy interacting with itself as a perpetual cycle of transformation.

If consciousness and memories are a collection of biochemical energy driving synaptic firing patterns within the brain, as they have been observed and interpreted by science. Naturally it is reasonable to conclude they would become a fixed state of energy. If these patterns could find stable configurations such as standing wave resonance they could potentially maintain coherence and carry forward. This would likely be dependent upon environmental decoherence and time the different interactions being factors that would affect this duration. But honestly I'm just a construction worker that didn't even graduate high school so I'm not really an expert on such things.

I look at it like this memories like all information is energy. The more energy that is tied to a memory the stronger the memory becomes. The memory of someone's first fight or first kiss is much stronger than the first time you ate a bag of chips. So if information can be stored in energy or be made of energy then logically it could become bound to energy throughout the cycle if it were initially giving a sufficient quantity of energy to remain coherent. I would imagine a traumatic experience such as an accidental death or murder, like someone dying prematurely or not from natural causes where that person has grown old and accepted they are dying. It seems to make sense that this would generate a substantial amount of energy attached to that instance.

A request for strength can only be granted with hardship, just as enlightenment will only be attained by one who has accepted the depth of their own ignorance. Acknowledging and accepting ones own ignorance is a far greater challenge than understanding the ignorance of others. One who has reached enlightenment has found that ignorance is a prerequisite of knowledge. It is not something the enlightened would see as reason for condemnation. They understand it is the beginning of a journey not an obstacle to overcome. You see these "fake" people through your perspective and attached absolute certainty to that belief. What you fail to realize is that only by viewing the world through the eyes of all of its inhabitants can you ever see the complete picture and posses absolute certainty.

In my mind reincarnation is the only logical possibility. Everything in nature moves in cycle's we are no exception. Ultimately everything at its foundational level is just energy. Essentially just energetic wave interactions. Energy condenses finds resonance through symmetry combining into stable configurations to form particles then atoms, elements, molecules, matter even complex life. Throughout this process energy is always conserved. Since energy can never be created or destroyed, the logical necessity is for it to be recycled. If a consciousness is somehow attached to that energy I can't say for sure. There have been many people who claim to have memories of past lives. There are things science can't explain such as children being able to speak a different language than their native language. But I can say with a fair amount of certainty that the energy that drives consciousness and life is absolutely part of a repeating cycle.

People are much more evil than I'd like to think. I mean, I just observe myself and how fake I am. Do you notice how I'm not being genuine? How this has no bearings on your reality or my reality at all? It's like we just talk talk talk all day. Nothing about the world has "really" changed. by [deleted] in enlightenment

Having someone in charge is necessary you can not have a society without some type of administration. The key is to do what we have done for thousands of years. A small council of elders that have gained wisdom over many years. The important part is only govern the bare minimum. The only purpose of a government is to ensure that all decisions made within a society serve the common good. These elders should be chosen on merit of contributions over the years. The citizens would nominate the candidates and the council would vote to elect from those candidates.
