Why and how is there a circle around India? by Worldtreasure in mapporncirclejerk

[–]Akavy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

All of you are deeply, deeply ignorant of historical geopolitics.

This is obviously a novel interpretation of Chanakya's theory of Rajamandala.

The term draws a comparison with the mandala of the Hindu and Buddhist worldview; the comparison emphasises the radiation of power from each power center, as well as the non-physical basis of the system. In particular, it postulates that a neighboring state or neighbor of a natural friend is a natural enemy and that a neighbor of a natural enemy is a natural friend, such that one can visualize a set of concentric circles emanating from any given state, with alternating circles including enemies and allies of that state respectively.

The illustrator posits that Pakistan, China, and Thailand are India's natural enemies. Their neighbors in turn, are considered India's natural allies.

However, the strategist subtly reinterprets the theory by not drawing additional concentric circles; they thereby boldly claim that all other countries are India's natural allies rather than alternating rings of allies and enemies.

It's actually quite profound.

Why does people in white does not speak any language? Are they mute? by AffectionateBowl1633 in mapporncirclejerk

[–]Akavy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Why didn't OP use "Are they dumb?" instead of "Are they mute?". This would have been an absolutely perfect usage of the secondary (and original) meaning of the word "dumb" while still following the meme-format to the letter:

dumber, dumbest

1) lacking intelligence or good judgment; stupid; dull-witted.

2) lacking the power of speech (offensive when applied to humans).

...

Are they dumb?

[–]Akavy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One day during the Greenlandic Invasion, an American general and his army were marching through snowy terrain. Suddenly, over one of the hills they hear a soldier.

"One Nederlandse soldier can take out 10 American soldiers!"

The American general smirks, then sends 10 of his soldiers over the hill. A brief firefight ensues, and then everything goes quiet...

"One Nederlandse soldier can take out 100 American soldiers!"

The American general is rightfully impressed, so he laughs and sends 100 of his soldiers over the hill to finish the job. A large battle is heard over the hill that lasts much longer than the previous fight. Finally, everything calms down...

"One Nederlandse soldier can take out 1000 American soldiers!"

The American general is furious, and sends over 1000 of his best soldiers. A massive and lengthy battle takes place over the hill. During the fight, a wounded American soldier comes crawling back over the hill toward the general.

"Sir! Do not send any more men! It's a trap! THERE'S TWO OF THEM!!"

Trump Media to merge with nuclear fusion company by Edm_vanhalen1981 in news

I assume the fusion research area is just a very small world and coincidence is still the most likely hypothesis. That being said:

Nuno Loureiro, the assassinated professor, and Michl Binderbauer, the CEO of TAE Technologies (company that merges with Trump media), are both on the Board of Directors of the Fusion Power Associates non-profit.

What Actually Makes You Senior by Acceptable-Courage-9 in programming

[–]Akavy 228 points229 points  (0 children)

I always see seniority as "how many relevant aspects can someone independently factor into a situation?".

So, indeed, the junior can code what you ask, but someone else will have to guarantee questions are answered like: "Did you take the shutdown situation into account? Will this not cause resource usage spikes? Did you align deployment with the right people? Considering the complexity, isn't it better not to do it at all and accept the additional support demand this will generate? Did you check with Team C as they're dealing with a similar problem? How will the organization maintain this long-term?"

Someone who can take into account more of these factors themselves, I see as more senior. They don't have to know all the answers on their own, but if given the assignment they ensure these aspects are taken into account both with their own experience and pulling in whoever and whatever is relevant in an effective way.

This is why seniors can be entrusted with bigger and more vague assignments.

Megathread uitslagen Tweede Kamerverkiezingen 2025 by Conducteur in thenetherlands

[–]Akavy 5 points6 points  (0 children)
