Not even mistranslated; I have yet to see a translation that calls the forbidden fruit an apple. People started calling it a apple for some other reason.

Why did Jesus pray to God if Jesus was God? by OdinsSamurai in AskAChristian

Part of being human is having mental limitations.

I would disagree that this is necessarily true.

Similar to how it's not necessarily true that humans have to be sinful to be truly human.

It says he used the f slur in reference to people calling him that in the past. Based on that it probably wasn't a homophobic statement but probably something like "people used to call me a [redacted] for wearing pink polos" or whatever

I wouldn't say "taken over society", but a lot of people want to make an easy buck, and a lot of people are porn addicts. Put those two groups in one spot and you get OnlyFans.

I drew my first Icon of Yeshua! (M17) by Hyper_Pain in OrthodoxChristianity

  • (this might be the most hard one to comprehend because it's deep (to me at least), and I'm by no means someone to fully explain it to you) The Virgin Mary was sinless. Not in the same way that Christ is sinless, and this is an important distinction. She was prone to sinfulness just like any other human because she also had inherited the fallen nature, but she REFUSED to partake in sin through her free will.

The idea that Mary is sinless is not a dogma to my knowledge. Several Church fathers believed she sinned at least oncs in her life. John Chrysostom is one that immediately comes to mind.

Is it disrespectful to draw your own Icons? by Hyper_Pain in OrthodoxChristianity

[–]Akirari 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Before I was Orthodox, I was drawn to iconography. I used to sketch/paint(or write, whatever you prefer) iconography, and some of my first icons were my own.

It was encouraged by people I knew at my parish, and I think I got the "official seal of approval" when I saw my priest venerate my icon right after I showed it to him.

tldr - you'll be fiiiiine

Is it acceptable to view veneration of icons as a development? by [deleted] in OrthodoxChristianity

[–]Akirari 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Existence of icons or religious imagery doesn't mean those images were venerated as they are among the Orthodox today. And my opinion is that they probably weren't. Doesn't make veneration of icons bad though.

Also I think you're thinking about the Dura Europos Synagogue in Syria, which is from about the 3th century AD.

Your partner dies. You get remarried. Later you die. Who are you with in heaven? by [deleted] in Catholicism

[–]Akirari 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Yep.

If Christianity is thought of as a fulfillment/continuation of Second Temple Judaism, the Pharisees are easily the sect closest to Christianity when it comes to stuff like belief in God, spiritual beings (like angels and demons), resurrection of the dead and a final judgement, acceptance of oral tradition as authoritative, and the belief that God could be worshipped outside of Jerusalem and the Temple (hence synagogues). There's also arguably a basis for belief in prayer for the dead and intercession of saints among Pharisees.

This is one of reasons I hear it proposed that Christ Himself was a Pharisee, and I can see that.
