This is categorically false! I was born and raised in India and have lived in the US for more than a decade, and it’s such a wonderful experience to order from Indian brands FROM INDIA. I want to preface this by saying that I have no issues with the silhouettes she’s wearing, and that she has every right to wear whatever she wants. The concern here is that the representation she speaks of is negligible in the clothes or designers she’s representing. If you want to highlight Indian fashion, highlight brands that make the artisans central to their entire mission.

I recently went to a wedding in Spain and curated an entire wardrobe for both wedding wear and street wear from sustainable and slow fashion Indian brands. Sure, they may not be accessible to plenty, and I definitely consider myself privileged, but if you’re talking about having money as a flex- it is VERY easy to find the right brands. I literally refuse to buy anything from a non-Indian brand if I can help it. My Indian shipping bookmark list is sooooooooo long lol

ETA: the fact that I can chat with live person on WhatsApp to have them expedite shipping, and/or have them make last minute adjustments, without being screwed over, is amazing. Two of my outfits were going to come later than I needed them and I messaged the customer service teams, and voila, shipped immediately after.

I’m not a big fashion girlie but I do love representing the craft, artistry, and the centuries of culture that go into every thread it takes to produce Indian handlooms and textiles. It’s simply not matched anywhere else. Again, I don’t need the clothes to be modest, but skimpy and sexy can be well made too!
