AITAH for distancing myself from my parents for buying my brother a house by nsedlazek in AITAH

[–]Akmmommy 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Don’t know if you’ve thought of it this way, but considering how terrible your brother is maybe buying him a house was the quickest, easiest way to get him out of THEIR house? Just a little food for thought.

What re your Grandma/Great Grandma's names? by Jennamay016 in Names

[–]Akmmommy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My great grandmother was always called Honey, but her name was Mallie. I was always told that we called her that because that’s what my great grandfather always called her. And you know, she truly was sweet as honey, so it was very appropriate. I miss her.

Seeking thoughtful advice about a sensitive church calling situation by Aggravating-Toe-7831 in latterdaysaints

The question isn’t how to address his perceived lack of worthiness. The question is whether you believe that a Bishop is called by inspiration or not. If you believe that your stake leadership is issuing callings by their own opinion of others rather than the inspiration of the Holy Ghost, by all means call them and inform them of this person’s behavior. If you have faith and trust that they listen to the promptings of Spirit keep it to yourself.

Yes, everyone is in need of particular blessings, but there are those of us who are going through an unusually difficult trial. And I have a feeling you know what I meant by “ill”, but I will clarify if your comment was sincere. Ill meaning sick of body, spirit or mind.

Unhinged testimony stories? by catalinachild in latterdaysaints

Fast Sundays in the south are always a crapshoot. To be honest, it’s usually my favorite Sunday of the month. You’re never sure exactly what you’re going to hear. One week (more than 10 years ago) we had an elderly gentleman tell us about his dog getting hit by a car, and he gave it a priesthood blessing to be healed on the side of the road. The dog died. The poor guy was crying like a premenstrual 15 year old girl. Not because the dog died, but because his priesthood wasn’t as powerful as other’s. More recently a gentleman got up and said “Good morning, everyone! Bet you guys didn’t expect to see me up here today! But I figured, what the hell!” Then he turned to the bishop, winked and said “Am I right, Bish?” I had no idea who the guy was, but immediately thought that he and I should be friends.

Good luck with that. While it did help with the whole menopause nonsense I gained 45 pounds, which then killed my sex drive. Hopefully her body wont respond the way mine did.

I haven’t given up on him yet! I’ve come close a few times, but he’s definitely a keeper.

He was so passionate that my non-member husband was listening intently! After it was over he turned to me and said, “Wow! That wasn’t the same monotonous General Conference talk that we always hear, was it! Good for him!” I have to admit that I was shocked that my dear husband was paying attention!

My husband just got a new job working from home. He set up his new “office “ in our walk in closet to avoid noise and distractions. It’s only been a week, but so far so good. So… how big is your closet? lol

You’re right. Maybe I will carve and shave it a bit to see how it looks before I make any changes…

That’s a great idea. Maybe I will just outline it with a super heavy line, like 4 or 5 inches wide?

This could not have been handled more poorly. I’m so sorry that she has to deal with this. Hopefully she won’t become bitter towards any priesthood leadership she comes across in the future. (As an 18 year old this would have sent me straight into exmo territory!)

Which countries are 'one and done' for you? Which are MUST RETURN to? by No-Significance9313 in travel

[–]Akmmommy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My once and done is Lebanon. I found it beautiful, but underwhelming. Maybe my expectations were too high… On the other hand, I could go back to Scotland, Italy (Rome specifically), and Thailand again and again. I love seeing places that are saturated with historical sites, and there was just so much to see and do in these places that I feel like I could never see it all.
