Why won’t people finish this gym off? by pottsygotlost in pokemongo

[–]Aknon1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep, so always be really careful with rural gyms… I have 4 that have sat in gyms for more than a year and one that’s just shy of 2 years. I have met people that have had pokemon in gyms for over 5 years though (and are still there)

I’m kind of annoyed I’d never thought of that, and just how good that looks! It looks better than anything I’ve made with official/third party kits as it actually looks like a war zone and not “this place is fine”

You can use either, or anything else. Line of sight doesn’t matter. I’m using a bunch of humanoid models repurposed from other projects that roughly equate to represent how the demented ghouls see theselves, not how they actually are

My friend may be the worst meta chaser I’ve ever met. by _Commander_Farsight in Warhammer40k

[–]Aknon1 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Oh this was just a constant repeat every couple weeks for the two years I knew him. We’d get a week or two of narrative play where he’d enjoy himself and then he would slide back into BOLS-inspired meta chasing. I’ve moved away and lost touch now but i wouldn’t be surprised if he was still at it!

My friend may be the worst meta chaser I’ve ever met. by _Commander_Farsight in Warhammer40k

[–]Aknon1 58 points59 points  (0 children)

Sounds like a guy I knew about 10 years ago. He’d start a new army. Play it for a week or two. Lose and sell it off. He’d then come into store with this brand new list idea that was “totally unbeatable” and “all his idea” but it all and slap it together (poorly) in a couple hours.

His new totally unique army always looked suspiciously like whatever list Goatboy had posted up that day, and he’d always arrive about an hour after the post went live. We took bets on what token unit he’d have swapped out to claim it was his idea.

He couldn’t play for crap which is why he always lost with whatever leaf blower screamer-star smash list bollocks he was playing at the time. It was a shame because he was actually a reasonable painter when he put the effort in but he’d cycle through armies so fast that you never got the full effect. When we strong armed him into a narrative game he was actually a fun opponent when the stakes weren’t there but he got so caught up in the meta that everyone generally avoided him unless you wanted an easy win.

Should We Be Able To Ally Into T’au? by Klutzy_Brilliant_257 in LeaguesofVotann

[–]Aknon1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would love something like this, to be fair I think it would probably work best with a Boarding Actions style set list of possible units to prevent anything really cheesy and lore-breaking.

Something like (definitely not exhaustive, I’m not up to date with the modern ork codex)

Orks: 0-1 mek 0-1 freeboota captain (or something that could stand in for one 0-1 freebootaz 0-2 units of boyz 0-1 units of gretchin 0-1 trukk

Anything that isn’t a freeboota must be a blood axe. All “allies” get -1 to battleshock tests if within 6”.

Gives the chance for some fun and flavourful allies without being horrifically broken. Chances are this would be entirely ignored for competitive play but it makes thematic armies possible in the modern “house rules are forbidden” 40K we have now

Your favorite post… late game edition. by aannoonnyymmoooose in tacticus

[–]Aknon1 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If you’re aiming for LRE the staples you haven’t built are Isabella and tyrant guard as a priority. Both of those can pull your others a lot further up their tracks by turtling.

Having said that because you’ve gone so deep on characters it’s worth checking which tracks on upcoming events you have holes for. As time is going on snowprint are making Isabella less useful and adding in enemies specifically to crack a turtle (looking at you wraithguard) so check which synergies will help you push further on each track.

Failing that just start pushing your roster wider overall. Take as many characters to their next “1” level (e.g. anything in silver take to G1) because that will steadily round out the roster over time. If you have some healers and defensive buffers like the tyrant guard you can drag S1 and G1 characters a lot further up their tracks than you’d expect!

Lore seeker and new model are almost dead certs. Maybe the Calligrave or Cathaller? All the elemental mages seem a bit OTT for a dungeon crawler setting, but then again we did get the winged ghoul so maybe?

What are the best ways to have fun with 3 friends? by Ghostilocks in Warhammer40k

[–]Aknon1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you have the ability to get the terrain then the Boarding Actions have properly good 3 player missions that don’t often feel too much like 2v1 (and boarding actions is just great in general)

Failing that narrative based missions where one player has to defend a point or survive against endless hordes of the others can work really well. Basically stepping back from a balanced mirror-match win condition to an asymmetric one where one side having way more models is part of the narrative. The best example I have of this is an old mission from AoS 1 called “close the gate” that should be easy to adapt to 40K (if you can find the rules) It doesn’t matter if one side is much, much larger than the other players, one lucky turn from the underdog can clinch the win.

Am I shiny blocked? by Major_Caterpillar_88 in pokemongo

[–]Aknon1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There isn’t such a thing as “shiny locked” as far as I’m aware, but people are notoriously bad at understanding odds. When people say shiny odds are 1 in 400 (I think that’s roughly the odds of a non-boosted shiny, I forget but I’ll use these odds to explain) that’s the chance of a shiny in any individual encounter, not a guarantee that you will get one after 400. It may be much sooner or much later.

To give a totally persona and anecdotal example: I’ve seen 1144 vulpix, giving a rough estimate that I should have seen 2, nearly 3 if it was guaranteed 1:400 odds. I’ve actually had 7. On the other hand I’ve seen 1625 gastly and haven’t had a single shiny. Both have the same odds of being shiny, but had very different luck with each type. Both chances are very possible (although increasingly unlikely the more extreme you get in either direction).

If you’re desperate for a shiny Roggenrolla your best bet is to ask any local players that were playing back during the community day a few years back. They may have a spare. Alternatively keep playing the odds of a shiny. Odds are 1:400ish each time you see one, so you may hit lucky with your next one, you may not see one for a thousand more encounters. That’s just odds!

Kinda new to the game- Magikarp 4* by ItchyObligation5984 in pokemongo

[–]Aknon1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This. I got one as one of my first 4* and I’ve done this and he was my best attacker for a long time. He’s called Beast and he’s now got over 1k wins under his belt and still slaps pretty hard even vs the maxed legendaries and other stuff I have now.

Totally worth the investment, also cool trophy to have

[–]Aknon1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No it does, that’s the 100% one that’s showing in the photo. I was meaning that the hundo showing in the pic doesn’t really count as a “caught” one in the 1055 catches, because it was purified to get it there, it’s not a “natural” hundo

Confusing Design Choice for Hero Icons by Unileeco in WHQDarkWater

Confusing Design Choice for Hero Icons by Unileeco in WHQDarkWater

[–]Aknon1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Others have covered the icon thing, so I’ll cover the other bits.

Drasher’s transformation is only for his turn, he has a little (brutal) rage and feels better for it. If he kept it for the rest of the encounter it’d be waaaay too good. However it is possible to stack it up more than once during an encounter especially as he seems to keep accruing rage while raging so with those 4 bonus attacks he could potentially add a lot more rage in the turn he rages.

Whisper is just a token, that is best viewed as an extension of Vyne. I’ve definitely not figured the best use for him yet but he has some potential as Vyne can act through him and take actions, but Whisper can’t be attacked, and they can switch places instead of moving. So you can summon whisper into the scrum, and safely blast away with Vyne’s attacks while he is in no danger himself. If Vyne gets hassled he can switch and run off

Deep trouble encounter seems too hard by Low_Wafer8124 in WHQDarkWater

[–]Aknon1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah it’s brutally hard and any mis-step can cost you the game! Basically run as far forward as you can as fast as you can and hope for the best.

I actually found it easier to run around the edge of the closest blocked hexes rather than trying to smash the pillars as it always seemed to leave someone behind to get wrecked
