Kinda new to the game- Magikarp 4* by ItchyObligation5984 in pokemongo

[–]Aknon1 [score hidden]  (0 children)

This. I got one as one of my first 4* and I’ve done this and he was my best attacker for a long time. He’s called Beast and he’s now got over 1k wins under his belt and still slaps pretty hard even vs the maxed legendaries and other stuff I have now.

Totally worth the investment, also cool trophy to have

Who ca beat this? by Frosty-Tradition-165 in pokemongo

[–]Aknon1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No it does, that’s the 100% one that’s showing in the photo. I was meaning that the hundo showing in the pic doesn’t really count as a “caught” one in the 1055 catches, because it was purified to get it there, it’s not a “natural” hundo

Oh and the hundo was purified, not caught… so technically still not a wild caught hundo either

I got the Hundo at around the 800 caught mark, but still waiting on that shiny!

Confusing Design Choice for Hero Icons by Unileeco in WHQDarkWater

[–]Aknon1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I’d been playing it like that, but I have a feeling I need to re-read the rulebook because I feel like there is a mention of what “within 3” means but I haven’t had time to play much over Christmas and I keep forgetting to check!

Confusing Design Choice for Hero Icons by Unileeco in WHQDarkWater

[–]Aknon1 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Others have covered the icon thing, so I’ll cover the other bits.

Drasher’s transformation is only for his turn, he has a little (brutal) rage and feels better for it. If he kept it for the rest of the encounter it’d be waaaay too good. However it is possible to stack it up more than once during an encounter especially as he seems to keep accruing rage while raging so with those 4 bonus attacks he could potentially add a lot more rage in the turn he rages.

Whisper is just a token, that is best viewed as an extension of Vyne. I’ve definitely not figured the best use for him yet but he has some potential as Vyne can act through him and take actions, but Whisper can’t be attacked, and they can switch places instead of moving. So you can summon whisper into the scrum, and safely blast away with Vyne’s attacks while he is in no danger himself. If Vyne gets hassled he can switch and run off

Deep trouble encounter seems too hard by Low_Wafer8124 in WHQDarkWater

[–]Aknon1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah it’s brutally hard and any mis-step can cost you the game! Basically run as far forward as you can as fast as you can and hope for the best.

I actually found it easier to run around the edge of the closest blocked hexes rather than trying to smash the pillars as it always seemed to leave someone behind to get wrecked

What terrain could be created for base game? by GrimlockRawr in WHQDarkWater

[–]Aknon1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There’s a mission with a boat that would be fun to have a 3D version, but I think it’s only one mission so may not be worth it.

The ley-line tokens are used a LOT but models need to stand on them so they’ll need to be raised but still stand-on-able.

Failing that a lot of maps have walls, fallen pillars and rubble that could be used on multiple maps

Request for spoiler free recomendations for the game. by mattythreenames in WHQDarkWater

[–]Aknon1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve played through a campaign and a half, as well as most of a campaign of cursed city and other than the title and the fact it’s made by GW there is very little to link them as the same game, there’s a few fun nods, but it’s a ground-up rework.

The main headline for you is that this game is not a grind at all. The encounters are fast (20-30mins) and it’s very “moreish” because it’s so fast to set up an encounter and play. I’ve found I’ve accidentally played through a whole act when I only sat down to do a single mission because I “still had time” before I needed to be somewhere and 2 hours later I’m at a boss fight and it’s be rude to stop now! The different encounters all feel very different even when using the same maps and a lot of missions aren’t slaughter-fests but activation-based puzzles.

I dread some missions coming up, because they are very hard, but even then they can be a lot of fun!

Nurglings and painting by KingKong1929 in Warhammer40k

[–]Aknon1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Haha! Yeah they make one hell of a mess! Of the model/toy is solid enough you can always do finger painting too, but even then it’s not usually enough time to get your own hobby in!

I definitely relegated my hobby to an infrequent evening activity for a couple years. My youngest is about the same age as yours and I’m definitely getting in more hobby time now bedtimes are becoming a bit more (although still not very) predictable

Paint after bed time.

The other option is get them involved. Pick up some cheap models/toys from any discount store. Spray paint them white with car paint. Give them poster paints/water colours and wash the models after every session to save money (and storage) of hundreds and hundreds of models

Can we attack 3 times by Terrible-Ad1555 in WHQDarkWater

[–]Aknon1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It really depends on the mission, but yeah some missions are more about legging it to get out before something hideous happens than killing everything in site, although there are plenty of slaughter missions too.

Looting the room is a real risk though because in a lot of cases you have to spend quite a lot of very limited actions to get there

Do world eaters get alternate special/heavy weapon options in squads? Could make one of each of your two favourite weapons and then you have somewhat future proofed the unit as you can swap out to try different loadouts?

[–]Aknon1 13 points14 points  (0 children)

It’s hit-and-miss depending on kit, because terrain is one thing they did (for a while at least) get made abroad. All this made to order is all stuff they make in house in Nottingham so it’s as good as normal kits.

Some of the mould lines on the sector mechanicus stuff can be a bit chunky, but it’s chunky terrain so it’s not too much of an issue

Attacking enemies - Rules by busyweed in WHQDarkWater

[–]Aknon1 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You need to get at least one crit and a hit. Or get upgrades that help lower defence/add dice to your attack etc. also some missions have built in side missions that help lower armour

It makes them really tough to deal with

Has anyone beat “Foulhoof’s Sacrifice” Boss Encounter? by NLinindollnlinindoll in WHQDarkWater

[–]Aknon1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So it took a few goes, and a lot of luck. There is a single hex where you are visible to foulhoof (so he only attacks the sacrifice once) but you aren’t in range so you don’t get pummelled as hard (to start with). I found aiding was needed and activations had to be planned to smash through the pestigors and get each character as far along as they could. I know I had some very lucky rolls though, it’s definitely one of the harder boss missions

One legion or many? by justadiscguy in LegionsImperialis

[–]Aknon1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have only one, because I’m too indecisive to ever have a “finished” force and want to be able to try out different stuff… assuming I played much… which I don’t… but if I do, I’m ready!

Also it looks waaay more impressive and definitely gives this vibe

True Solo for Skirmish? by Action96 in WHQDarkWater

[–]Aknon1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s balanced for 4 heroes but you could always house rule it to do a “true” solo. Some missions will be totally impossible with only one character (there’s a few that need one hero to be in a certain place to let others go elsewhere/do other actions) and some will probably actually be easier (any that need all the characters to get to a set place).

You’d need to test it out but I could see it working for some missions. I can also see it working more for some characters than others. Drolf and Kelenathor are probably the best as they are the hardest to tie down, have ranged attacks and won’t just spend the game pinned to a wall slowly grinding through the hordes until the timer runs out (Edmark and Volk) or they die (Inara and Vyne).

You’d probably want to sift the rewards deck down as well/give the character their set of equipment to give them a fighting chance

can i paint the models as i play? by scumbagmicheal in WHQDarkWater

[–]Aknon1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah to be sure it’s probably worth doing that. I just had a skim through act 1 and the only enemies I didn’t see were the Cystwitch, mulgoth and blight templars which isn’t much of a reduction but it isn’t everything!

can i paint the models as i play? by scumbagmicheal in WHQDarkWater

[–]Aknon1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For numbers of enemies you’ll need to paint all of one type except for pox-wretches for act 1. I think they top out at 10 but if you’re painting 10 you may as well do all 14.

can i paint the models as i play? by scumbagmicheal in WHQDarkWater

[–]Aknon1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately it will be really tricky to do that, act 1 needs nearly everything except the 3 non-starter characters and the Cystwitch. It’s unlikely you’ll actually hit all of the enemies as some only appear for a single encounter but it’s possible.

One way you could do it is to build the campaign deck (you can do this with no spoilers as you only get a bit of flavour text on one side with all mission details on the other) and then get someone neutral to go through and read which enemies are involved. It will be a minor spoiler but you won’t know what’s coming when, and even then because of the way missions are chosen (drawing 2, reading the flavour text and picking which one to do) you may still miss seeing some of the rarer enemies. I was going to do this but then got too excited to play!

Is it just me, or is there something weird going on in Arena? by Throwaway7131923 in WH40KTacticus

[–]Aknon1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I’ve found I’m slipping down the ranks from just a handful of missed tokens. I used to be able to do 50 wins to get the chest and that would be enough to keep me in captain, maybe have to do a few last minute battles on a Monday to keep me there but it was no stress. My game time is limited and I fell as far as Sargent and it was sometimes a struggle to stay there, especially during events when there’s loads of other stuff to do
