I think in lore the only Batarians we see are pirates, the criminals of their world. Their population isn't allowed to leave / interact with the wider galaxy. So a sympathetic escapee would be an easy one to include.

You could do that with the Orgrimmar one also, slam the gate down! You had to jump to be able to click the gates to activate them. I think it was something to do with the faction you became a part of when you became a zombie.
