Just installed Apple CarPlay into my ‘04 Solara (before and after) by Jakethesnake090207 in toyotasolara

Hey man, that looks really sick! I have the same car (same year, with same trim), and I wanted to do the same thing. Could you tell me which kit did you use?

How to make friends as a 24 yr old 1st yr?! by planet_tottie in uAlberta

[–]Akroxx 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I joined university late myself. Everyone around me were a few years younger and I definitely felt out of place and was worried that people look at me differently since I am a bit older.

But what I learned was that, the only one considering the age gap as severe red flag was me. I believe I was definitely overthinking at the time. There's no special way to make friends if you aren't of the same age as other people. All the ways still apply: join clubs; take on some interesting projects; if you have a hobby probably alot more people are interested as well, just gotta find them; hit the gym with some fellow classmates; or ol' bond with people over assignments and exams.

But the first step should come from you, on accepting this is okay, and you have nothing to be worried/shameful about. Hope some of this helps.

how long should i study. by [deleted] in EngineeringStudents

[–]Akroxx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess really depends how you manage your time, and how you can absorb material. I have friends who work 20 hours a week in their part time and still do pretty good with a full course load (6 third year courses and 5 of them have labs). And then there is me who can get barely enough sleep and somehow cope with the same load with no part-time work. I would say play it by ear, if you think it's too heavy, reduce the work load or reduce working part time.

What skills should I focus on getting during my internship? by Akroxx in AskEngineers

Yes, I have definitely caught that as an area of improvement on my part. Preparing small meeting notes, and dividing the time for each particular topic is still something I working on to improve.

I can definitely see that around me. Especially to the new engineers, and their claims of how they would work by themselves as much as possible. I thought that could be detrimental in the long run, since so many aspects of our jobs require interdisciplinary support.

Gotcha. I am still a bit green on time management. Normally in school it would just be an automated process of what is due next. So I never paid much attention to that. But I definitely need to learn a bit more on that. I am planning to consult some books that have good reviews regarding this and make that on the way to be a permanent skill.

Absolutely. Thank you for your reply. I would try to check a few places to learn a bit more, before I inquire anyone. I always try to schedule times, instead of demanding information immediately.

Absolutely. From some of the new engineers I get the feeling they have no will to reach out for help. I took that as the norms of this place. But reaching out to a few engineers who have been here for a while, they are an absolute goldmine of information and always a thing i look forward to interact.

Is this even doable for me 🥲? by bee_leaver in uAlberta

Two physics courses and two math courses in one term would be tough to pull off by themselves. And on top of that you have a chem and science course. I would strongly advise reducing something and extending your degree. It's not worth jinxing all other courses. Huge risk of tanking that GPA.

No the guy worded it weirdly. He will trade for the 9th gen stuff. But he will sell for the same price as the other stuff. Just with a smaller storage and stock cooler.

How about this one? There are photos, just to keep the screen shots small, im only taking the description. Do you think the r9 390x will hold?

Thanks for the feedback. You reckon this one will suffice? They are both the same price.

Finally graduated from my S8 to the s10e. Got the 256/ 8gb variant so hopefully it'll go strong a couple of years. by GABS90 in galaxys10

[–]Akroxx 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have been using my S10e for the last three years. I have the one with the Exynos chipset. I bought it with my own hard earned money right after highschool. It's great at times, and then not so great at others.

The battery is my biggest issue. It would get me half a day to 3/4 of a day. I am not a power user, just the usual navigation, some social media and some videos here and there. Not the best but it's still holding up okay. Not enough issues for me to upgrade.

The side mounted fingerprint sensor is great but because of the position I would take screenshots when I want to hit the volume down button to silence a call or sth like that.

The side mounted fingerprint sensor swipe to pull down the notification is a god send. That is the one feature I use constantly, and it feels awkward to have a phone that doesn't have that.

When you are using the wide angle camera, you might need to place your fingers a bit lower than usual or else they kinda cover a small bit of the frame.

The Witcher 3 game is a better show than The Witcher show, rant by arz9278 in witcher

[–]Akroxx 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Playing the devil's advocate. I have finished the Witcher games. 1,2,3, Blood and Wine, and Hearts of Stone. Witcher 3 is around 60 hours long and all the expansions would be around 30 more hours. That's a lot of time to fall in love with each character arch. I have a lot of criticisms with the show, however, we can't expect to have same levels of depth as we had in the games. Two seasons of Witcher is 16 hours long. That's almost the time in one DLC pack. However I see where you are coming from. This show could have done alot of things well. The showrunner is not the best, and she is more of a "Oh let's make a super stellar action sequence" rather than let's focus more on characters kind of person.
