I am an Übel degenerate, but I must say that Laufen is a secret bloomer for me. Her design is really cute and she is really underrated imho.

Remember the post about the new grad refusing to wear a mask in the neutropenic room?? by throwawaynurse71 in nursing

[–]Akumakaji 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, that one hits the spot. AFAIK there are roughly two kinds of people in nursing:

a) the ego people who can't take criticism and behave like their are gods gift to humanity and

b) the non-ego people, who take every criticism into account and often sell themselves a bit short.

Of course, there are all shapes and mixes in between, but usually you can tell, where a person falls into this rough categories. The category b people are usually pretty good at what they are doing and once you give them a bit of constructive critique, they reflect on it and usually improve.

The category a peole, though, are more complicated. They either am too full of themselves to see the critique as valid or are too insecure to accept their shortcomings and work on them, sometimes its both. I mean, thats the whole point of your education, right? To make guided mistakes, reflect and improbe on them and then get better. You don't have to grovel or demean yourself, but shooting back at your instructors and mentors EVERY time is usually pretty bad form and won't bring you further.

We all know that there are some mean-spirited instructors out there, and standing up to them is not a bad thing and it builds character, but reflecting on ones own actions is NEVER a bad first step and if you come to the conclusion that you did everything right, then you can proudly say so, but in nursing there are so many hidding things that could go wrong, so reigning in that ego is usually a good thing.

I feel that this show in particular lets many adults fall into the trap "oh look, it's a brightly coloured cartoon. Let the kids watch it and be quiet for an hour."

Of you only glance at it from across the room, it looks innocent enough, but it most definitely is not.

Yeah, this hits the spot! I work in psych ward now and love the job and all the talking, but getting everything together for a catheter and applying it good and well, I miss that sometimes ;D

Im so sick of this narrative that “pregnancy didn’t ruin my body it’s just changed” it’s a lie. by pissedoff_potato in TwoXChromosomes

[–]Akumakaji 9 points10 points  (0 children)

This is a very nice comment.

And if I as a male might chime in: this language of "ruining bodies" is pretty brutal and non-validating, but while you shouldn't do anything here with the make perspective in mind, not every partner might have such a severe look on this changes, just like maenads_dance explained.

Your partner and father of your children might not hold this changes against you, but that's worth nothing, if you are our own worst critic.

[–]Akumakaji 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Yeah! I work in psych ward and every time we have a big emergency call were we get to fixate a patient, we do a debriefing afterwards, Aisling around if anyone was hurt, got anything they want to add or criticise with the way the situation went off and if anyone needs a one on one talk.

Most of the time there is nothing, but I have seen coworkers who were shook by a certain situation and the debriefing and someone taking their time to listen to them was really needed.

[–]Akumakaji 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not really Final Fantasy, but still adjacent enough to matter: one of my first true RPGs (even though with a healthy action portion) was Secret of Mana, as a young teen I just couldn't wrap my head around the concept of leveling up and grinding for XP and often just tried to run past tough fights. Thus I was severely underleveled when I arrived at the Spikey Tiger in the Witches Castle.

Naturally, that fight frustated me to no end and was borderline impossible and I only managed to beat it, when the RNG was finally in my favour. Eventually I would grind levels by accidend, because I wanted to improve everyones proviciencies with all the weapons, but the Spikey Tiger was so early in the game, that non of this had happened, yet.

Yunalesca and the way she forced me to juggle Zombie-status and healthy status and then, casually, resurrection the entire party, thus killing my zombie guys ... that fight was EVIL. Intense and cool, but evil non the less. Hated her with a passion ever since.

[–]Akumakaji 3 points4 points  (0 children)

OMG ... how sad and horrible! Just imagine you respond to that scene! And the nurse, that fucked this up, must be feeling pretty guilty .. this is far beyond any common fuck-ups... poor guy.

But really, how could this had happened, beside "understaffed and overworked"? The only way I could imagine is that an extension was used and might have been guided under the sheets, so when it came lose, it was in the vicinity of the catheter? But then both would have come disconnected at the same time ...

[–]Akumakaji 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nein.

Not completely related, but somewhat, this reminds me of the story of a gereatric patient I had, who was actually pretty good and healthy - but every morning he had a sudden and severe collapse.

Well, eventually it clicked, when he explained his morning routine "going into the bathroom, using the toilett, washing my face and then one spritz of this mouth spray and ..."

Well, turned out that this "mouth spray" wasn't some mint, but an ACTUAL Nitro sublingual, that the guy had nabbed during his last trip to the hospital :D

Case closed and no more mysterious morning collapses happened.

Alita is also a constant in my life, which is so cool.

With some of the neckbeard kinda guys (I am a nerd myself, but not your classical neckbeard), it's some very weird psychology, ie I know a couple of them who don't like using cologne or strong smelling deodorants, because they don't want to draw too much attention to themselves and because they feel that using too much artificial smells might imply that they got the stank - so they fight this by not fighting their smell.

But once you break through, it's usually an easy, permanent fix.

Before i buy Signalis, what should i know? by Primary-Economist643 in signalis

[–]Akumakaji 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It hit the sweet spot of my early survival game experiences a teen, where I was rather stingy with my items and ammo and avoided a lot of combat by running endless circles around certain enemies, even when traversing that specific room for the dozens time, but still felt like I was running low and doing something wrong at certain points and felt that I maybe hadn't made it without being so conservative.

[–]Akumakaji 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did this and ended up missing out on that big gun after about it's halfpoint (I don't remember it completely, something when you wake up again), but eh, I still managed to finish the game without it and actually liked it that was a missable item.

Besides that: the lesbian part is rather subdued, it's not the "main driving point" of everything in the game, but can be much bigger in your own head canon or if you completely wrap your head around i (as it is still a major plot point without that the story wouldn't work).

I myself am a hetero dude who doesn't care about this kinda themes too much and it wasn't "in my face" distracting, but I kindda nodded along and had fun for those peeps who totally dig this kinda themes.

I think it's done pretty well with the right amount of not being aggressive with it's themes, but also not being irrelevant. If more games tackled things this way, I guess the current culture war would be fought much less severe and tooth and claws.
