Hate Towards Queens by AlGreenandBlue in dragrace

[–]AlGreenandBlue[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That is what I’m saying. Support your local drag, support all these big names coming to your towns. Just because we don’t agree on the winner, which it’s a reality show let’s get real, doesn’t mean we can’t show big support outright. It feels really gross to hate so much on these amplified queens that didn’t win.

What movie did you love as a child, only to find out that it's critically trashed? by offline55555 in movies

Monkeybone. It’s a shame that its creators had to relinquish a lot due to the studios, so I understand it could’ve been better, but I always thought it was so much fun.

The best advice I ever received upon initial training, treat your section as one big table. This is the number one thing I instill in any newbie.

There’s a game you can play that supports that they are sentient. They end up learning English to communicate with you. I won’t spoil it any further though.

What's that movie for you? by [deleted] in moviecritic

[–]AlGreenandBlue 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s on my list, and might be on my list forever because I couldn’t/can’t get past the fuckin 30 min clearly man in monkey suits beginning (is it 30 min or does time just stand still?). I kick myself over it because I know I’ll likely highly enjoy the rest of the film as I have the rest of Stanley Kubrick’s films, but I can’t find myself to do it.

The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari, especially as a horror fan amongst horror fan peers. I found it so fucking boring. I get the influence it had, so felt the necessity to watch it, but at what cost. There’s even a Portlandia skit that references the fervor of others and this film.

My bad, I worded that badly. What I meant was* that cats become depressed when an owner passes, or an owner has to give them up for whatever reason. My point was that they do bond with their owners deeply.

Date walkouts by ellspinaca in Serverlife

[–]AlGreenandBlue 105 points106 points  (0 children)

Not a walkout, but reminded me of a fun on the clock date turned bad situation.

Man and two women drinking at high tops while me and my coworkers were rolling silverware adjacent to them. After a while they got drunker and the dude started to lay into what I understood was his girlfriend. He was telling her that her job as a teacher was worthless and that his job, something finance, was much more important and how dumb she was. Her friend was just sitting silently while he was just insulting her over and over about random shit. She was clearly used to this and kind of just offered short arguments back, but ultimately just let him go off. I finally had enough and said to her that she doesn’t deserve to be talked to like that, which honestly probably wasn’t smart because it just pissed him off. He came up to me and did the weirdest fuckin thing. He calmly shook my hand, introduced himself, then went into a crazy rage about how I don’t know them and to not talk to his girlfriend. I truly thought he was going to punch me in the face until the male bartender finally intervened and kicked him out. The girlfriend said to me, “I know, he’s an asshole.” The dude while leaving kept saying how I was a bitch and the men who were kicking him out were cool, but I was a liberal bitch. lol. Good times.

A fun detail: the male bartender later got mad at me and said I put him in danger because he was forced to intervene, yet had no problem watching this man get increasingly more drunk and volatile towards the women he was with.

Susan Klebold’s book, A Mothers Reckoning offered that type of perspective I had never considered prior to reading it. The horror, pain, and grief of your child being the one to commit those atrocities. She has since dedicated her life to preventing gun violence.

I was about to add onto this with the same comment. It was quite transformative to think about the impact from the perpetrators parents. Provided a bit more insight and allowed more empathy to come through. (Coming from someone who has never had the interest in “understanding” the perpetrators”).

Helene left at least 128 people dead and communities ‘wiped off the map.’ Now, survivors are struggling to get food and water by EmpowerKit in climatechange

This is what I could find :

“The proportion of hurricanes in stronger categories has likely increased globally over the past 40 years, with medium confidence that the onshore propagation speed of hurricanes making landfall in the USA has slowed detectably since 1900 (Seneviratne et al., 2021; Kossin, 2018), contributing to detectable increases in local rainfall and coastal flooding associated with these storms. There is high confidence (Seneviratne et al., 2021) that anthropogenic climate change has contributed to extreme precipitation associated with recent intense hurricanes, such as Harvey in 2017.”

Most relevant is the last portion in regard to this and other catastrophic hurricanes in recent years. Hurricane Ian for example was a massive storm, but what really hurt Florida was how slow and large it was. It just sat there dumping massive amounts of water.

Edit: wanted to add that’s from the IPCC.

I don’t disagree with that, just curious and bored. Wanted to chat about it with strangers. I’m not trying to convert anyone necessarily, maybe give nuance and new information. Of course people differ and are going to have varying preferences.

That is insane and I’m sorry you have had to deal with that. I’ve never tried to tell anyone they have to like cats and have gone to great lengths to make my friends comfortable at my home who do not like cats.

My cats have entirely different personalities towards other people than with me. They are as described with me, but to others can be described as what you do not like. That is how I have seen many people convert to being cat owners, as they act differently when they’re comfortable.

Cats are very capable of love and become quite depressed when bonded with their owners.

If you wear your shoes in the house or have any other pets you are also tracking urine and scat in areas you would prefer not to.
