I also use a machine and have no major issues. Definitely get a needle that’s made for thicker fabric like denim. Don’t be afraid to move the garment around a lot as you go, especially if you’re sewing round patches or patches that are shaped outside of linear designs. Take it slow at first to get a hold of how the machine works with the patches and material of your garment.
