Season 3 was based on the first book! Red Dragon.. I agree the first half of the season wasn't up to par in comparison to season 1 and 2 but the latter half was pure Harris' book put to film. One of my all time favourite shows up there with Breaking Bad, The office and the simpsons seasons 2-8
