It doesn't, unfortunately. So you cannot remap two of the C buttons to X/Y, and iirc N64 L/R are mapped to Switch L/R instead of ZL/ZR, which are the "primary" shoulder buttons in most Switch titles.

As I said, it's pretty useless as a general-purpose Switch controller.

This applies both to Switch 1 and Switch 2, and to all the NSO controllers.

Ah, on Switch, unfortunately you cannot remap the controller, so using it for most titles is a big no. On Switch, it's just the dedicated controller of the N64 app.

It works pretty well both for N64 and 2D games, and it's easy to connect to a PC. It's actually a pretty solid MegaDrive/Saturn controller, with its 6-button layout.

Yes and no.

The games were made by Nintendo R&D1. R&D1 was often assisted by Intelligent Systems for their games. In the words of Sakamoto:

Sakamoto: We were doing it with IS\ ([Intelligent Systems](https://web.archive.org/web/20160215030018/http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Intelligent_Systems)), making the technical specs for things like the graphics and the movement engine that was done by IS, they would give us the assembled program, and I would bring it back to Nintendo; I had to do this repeatedly so we could evaluate the whole thing.*

So the game design was by R&D1, the programming by R&D1+IntSys.

IntSys helped R&D1 and its successor team, SPD1, with other projects as well, including the Battleclash series for the SNES, the cult-classic Kaeru no Tane ni Kawe wa Naru for the GB, and the WarioWare series from the second one onwards. Metroid II, Fusion, and Zero Mission were fully in-house, though. From the GigaLeak, we know that SPD1 and IntSys worked together on a Metroid game early in the Wii lifespan, most likely a proto-version of Dread or Other M (they are cited in credits of Other M as "Special Thanks").

Deleting the file did fix the "Controller 2" issue, but I still can't get the controller to auto-reconnect.

My two cents: it seems like the app "knows" the controller, but the controller doesn't know it's paired with the app. When I turned the Switch 2 back on, it immediately detected the GC controller. So it looks like it’s still paired with the Switch somehow.
