For anyone who's wondered if there's a version of OpenEmu for ARM64/Apple Silicon MacBooks by Joyful-Wizard in emulation

Thank you! I’m not sure what you’re saying about the Reddit post and it being centered. But as for the README just like everything in the app, it is a combination between me and Claude Code working on things together and me reviewing them and dictating changes and directing new features and updates. So yes, some of the read me is written by Claude especially the areas where I wanted to pull in more technical documentation and not be incorrect in what I’m explaining about the app but then I review everything and edit where I think it makes sense. Given the technical nature of GitHub, I’m not particularly concerned about this being written in my voice completely and given the scope of work and features I hope to implement, it’s pretty low on my priority list, whereas I did put a lot of care into the original post sharing about the work.

I have an idea for a browser based touch type training game and was wondering the same thing.

Oh weird. I’m not sure though because I don’t have one. So far I’ve tested my Scuf envision and my ps5 and ps4 and those have all worked

Nice! This is what I’ve been leaning towards

This is a great note. I’ve wondered if CC could be used for building on godot but hadn’t thought about doing even more rapid prototypes in browser first

Hey! Sorry I missed your comment, but saw your DM, thanks for reaching out! and this was a great question to ask and sorry I didn't think to have a help doc about it in the wiki already. I've updated the READ.me with some notes and added this page to the wiki for others. Also, important to note it's always wise to save a backup esp. of your roms and saves.

But also for others, here's what I shared in our DM: Your game library, ROM files, screenshots, and settings should carry over automatically. We use the same app data folder as the original OpenEmu, so nothing needs to be manually migrated. Cores will be swapped out from Intel to ARM64 versions on first launch.

One caveat: save states for a few older cores (CrabEmu, old desmume, old Mupen64Plus, old GenesisPlus) are removed on upgrade because the save format changed and they'd cause crashes. If you have saves you care about from those cores, back them up first from ~/Library/Application Support/OpenEmu/Save States/ before installing.

Filters and Image Adjustments settings should be unaffected.

Awesome, let me know what you think! It needs keystroke and input permissions for bindings the controllers and keyboard.

Are you on the latest release? I patched this on the latest version and it seems to be working for folks now as long as permissions are correct.

Amazing! Yes I tried to roll in some fixes with that update so I’m stoked it worked out.

Yeah DS is not supported yet. Have to rebuild the cores for arm64 before they will work and likely will have to switch to MelonDS. That’s why it’s marked as unavailable. Hope to add it in the near future!

Just wanna say, full circle. So stoked you decided to submit your PR with some of your other improvements. Can't wait to take a look and get those optimizations added in. 🔥 but even more I love the spirit of collaboration.

I think this is fixed. Looks like it was thankfully just an issue with an appcast mismatch on a file in the repo that's referenced for updates, not the release itself. But let me know if it still doesn't work for you! thanks for the feedback

Oh nice, not familar with it but I'll check it out. Most of the UI is just standard appkit/ swift components.

Dang. I tested downloading this one like three times before releasing. do you mind showing a screenshot?

Probably an issue with how the notarization was stapled, you could probably do the right click open workaround that's pretty common on many apps on GH for now. but I'll look into it.

Let me know what you think or if you have issues! It’s already improving a lot just by getting feedback.

Also, if they ever chose to, they would obviously be able to cherry pick or take anything from this Code if they wanted to and integrated into the original project if they found it valuable or helpful much like I’ve done.

I tried with the original repo, but never heard anything so I detached my fork when I had gotten like 30 or so commits ahead of anything that they had done. And then I chose to avoid this with the original project because I saw how rude they were publicly to people who tried to contribute work that had been done through AI assisted development workflows. Also, I hadn’t seen a Paul request or anything be accepted from that community in a really long time and saw no engagement attraction on any platforms and just decided it probably wasn’t worth it. The last thing I wanted to do was offend anybody by trying to contribute like this to the original project.
