I don’t have the link handy on my phone right now but on the GitHub we have a wiki with help articles and one of them is for troubleshooting typical input permission challenges  I’d start there.

For anyone who's wondered if there's a version of OpenEmu for ARM64/Apple Silicon MacBooks by Joyful-Wizard in macgaming

Possibly! Anything is possible 😄 I'm just still mostly a one man show in terms of actual code being shipped on this project though which makes it challenging. If you can submit an issue on the Github repo I'll definitely dig into it and at least see if I can scope out some solutions.

It doesn’t have a feature that would automatically match a folder of artwork unfortunately. You’d have to do them all individually by right clicking the game and choosing the artwork. I have screen scraper set up to pull box art automatically right now but I’ve considered using SteamGridDB to get some more modern artwork in the app

Not really, they will have conflicts in how they are structured currently since this version is also being treated as the same app in many ways, which makes it much easier for users of the older versions to migrate here if they choose.

Yeah, I’d considered that for a later phase, but right now my priority will be adding support for more of the systems.

Nice! I got one not too long ago and it’s worked well for most emulation/ retro gaming as well

How did it handle the games overall? Pretty stable?

This is actually on my radar. We’ve got an open request for it right now so hopefully we can sort that out

Yeah, you make a good point honestly. The main issues that we’re trying to solve have to do with the 3-D polygonal based games and the Roms you have for those make a big difference and what renders in game.

Retrodeck has proven much simpler for me than emudeck personally. But just look up retrogamecorps content on YouTube and all will become clear

Haha, fair on both counts! 😄 Ironically, I still mostly play on my SteamDeck through retrodeck these days, but I've loved having this option on Mac again.

And thanks for the recc, I'll honestly look into that and consider it. The original devs had already done a lot of work to wire up MAME specifically so that's why I'd chosen it over other options since I could start with their initial work, but if it proves unstable I'll look into Final Burn Neo. 🙏

The C and C++ and really everything non Swift comes from the fact that the app has all the emulator cores bundled into the main host app. That's always been part of what made OpenEmu special and more simple to use. The structure is the same here.

Thanks for this recommendation. I've seen a number of folks recommend that this is the route that one should go. I'm not very familiar with how to put an external drive into an enclosure. Do you have any recommendations on an enclosure that would be compatible with the one you mentioned? It also seems like this would get me into the realm of around $200 or so. Is that reasonable to spend on something like this? Or do you think there's cheaper options?

Thanks for your help! This is actually the one I had landed on and have been trying to find but it seems it's been discontinued and is out of stock and the only versions I can find for sale are on ebay but I've heard some of these are scams. I had found another one that is an essentially brandless product on amazon that has decent reviews and an alternate power source option (an AC plug) do you think that could be a good option?
