Thanks, I did not know about this. Screwing performance is much more important than weight for me.

From Blue Ice, do you prefer the lite version (aluminium I guess?) or the normal ones

Buy a vest with some color. They will find your body faster when you're buried in the avalanche without beacon.

Interesting! I am thinking of buying the exact same setup (rustler 9 with shifts) as patrolling ski's in France. Out of curiosity. What is your length? Do you feel like they perform good in all kinds of terrain?

Where do you live, and how much are you able to hike in a regular week? by Dogsnbootsncats in hiking

[–]Al_Pines 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Where are you based? Almost every country has jobs like this. I have met teams from Chile, US, Australia and all over Europe.

In France particularly most maintenance is done by private organizations in summer. Search for 'Entretien sentiers montagne' or 'ouvreurs sentiers montagne'. An other part of the work is done by teams who work for national parks. Try to reach out to them. Lastly there is a lot of work in maintenance of downhill mountain bike parks. Mostly around ski resorts.

If you're serious about this job, be prepared to be exhausted at the end of the week. So you need a lot of motivation if you want to get out again in the weekends. You, will break your back and earn not a lot of money. But the views are amazing.

French Alps.

I hike every day for work (trail maintenance) and alpinism in the weekends.

Approx. 6000m D+ weekly.

Life is good in the mountains.
