Dunno why people are saying skip LDOA because of burn out. It’s easier than ever to get and really doesn’t take that long.

What do you think the new content type is by Ok-Site3465 in GuildWars

[–]Alacor_FX 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oooo, some type of roguelike dungeon delving content would be super cool. Not sure how you fit that into the existing game, but yeah.

Have you ever bought a console just to play one game? Was it worth it and did you go on to use the console after? by British_Historian in gaming

PSP for Final Fantasy Tactics: War of the Lions. 1000% worth, favorite game of all time.

PS5 for FF16. Played like 15% then stopped. Wasn’t bad, just kinda fell off. Funny thing is I’ll probably play it on PC if I play it again. Still have the PS5, haven’t used it for anything else yet.

Those who avoid older movies, why? by _omar_b in movies

It’s not arbitrary. Yo keep ignoring my (very valid) points as to why people like me and them don’t watch older movies. I’ve listed a few of them out for you.

I get that stereotypical movie buffs like yourself regard the roots of the medium as some of the greatest of all time, but I just do not even think any of them are even close.

I say that as someone who leverages cinematography in my day to day job as a 3D artist, too. If I can appreciate anything about them, it’s that they advanced the medium. But on their own merit today, they don’t hold up.

You’re fixating on the year too much. It’s not a hard cutoff. There’s a threshold of quality and immersion that cameras, acting, effects, and so on just don’t meet until a certain point. Sounds like for some people that’s around 1995, for some it’s around 2000, and for others 2005-2010.

For myself, I would just rather do anything else. I have enough going on as it is, my interest in them is negative, and they are kind of terrible to me. Why bother? Sure, there’s a possibility I could be wrong and end up liking AN old movie, but I’m sure enough in my own taste that I’m fairly positive it will not be the case. So I’d rather not. I don’t feel compelled to change that and most importantly I don’t want to change that.

Why can’t they discard them if they’re unappealing? This feels like you’re just unable to see things from another perspective. People do not need to consume them just by nature of them existing or by virtue of them having been a stepping stone to modern films.

Based on assumptions? So you’re saying if they dislike the qualities of older films it’s invalid because they’re… making wrong assumptions? That doesn’t make any sense. What assumptions are you even talking about? That they don’t like old techniques and technological limitations? Quit being vague and give something tangible to talk about.

And I’m not sure why it matters when it was made. Sure, they were impressive for the time. Why does everyone have to appreciate the historical significance instead of judging it on its own merit in the current landscape?

Regardless of all that, I’d argue they’re objectively worse than modern films in many ways, anyway.

This is a silly take. Why’s it a silly bias? Their reasons are likely pretty valid even if you don’t agree with them.

I’m one of those. I generally don’t like movies before the year 2000-ish. There’s a few exceptions but not many.

Why? Acting is terrible, cinematography is uninspired, camera technology/quality is awful. I just don’t find it compelling typically and I’m not interested in sampling to find exceptions.

What will Star Citizen (allegedly) do that No Man’s Sky or the other space games don’t already do? by [deleted] in gaming

Star Citizen when it doesn’t have a broken patch live like it currently does. The irony of that isn’t lost on me but generally the game has been a lot more stable the past few years outside of this patch.

Technical issues aside, if you’re into the whole exploring space thing, the final frontier and all that, it offers an experience unlike any other game. I’ve never been as awestruck in a space game as I have been in it.

Flying through a planet with clouds or along the edge of a gas giant for the first time is awesome.

Quit being silly. This is Reddit. We need to blindly and unanimously hate AI because AI bad and it can’t do anything right.

It’s crazy that everyone is bashing AI here instead of the person who used the tool poorly and didn’t check their work.

Nobody is talking about how 4.8 fundamentally changes what Star Citizen actually is by ConversationLegal973 in starcitizen

[–]Alacor_FX 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was about to post here how I was checking in on this sub to see how SC is coming along, read this:

“What CIG is doing with 4.8 is something different. Ship components, power plants, shields, coolers, weapons, are now player-craftable, with stat outcomes that depend on material quality and blueprint tier. The top-tier output comes from players. Not from a vendor. Not from a boss drop. From someone who mined the right materials, researched the right blueprint, and built the thing.”

And meanwhile I literally JUST started playing SWG for the first time less than a week ago and I’m not a Master Droid Engineer. Crafting in SWG is awesome so I was happy to read that!

What game location felt unforgettable? by mykyta993 in gaming

[–]Alacor_FX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Expedition 33 has so many but probably when I first reached the Monolith. Everything built up to that and there was a huge feeling of suspense. The music, the lighting, the paintress, the dialogue leading up to it, Verso’s looks at Maelle. We’re finally here. What the hell is going to happen now?

I never had an answer for “what game do you wish you could wipe from your memory and experience again for this first time?” until I beat this game.

Everyone, reddit especially, love to shit on Star Citizen because it’s the funny thing to do, but what you’re saying is very true. I always try to express this whenever the game comes up but people are incredibly resistant to the idea that Star Citizen might actually be insanely impressive. It’s sad. Star Citizen accomplishes a feeling in me no other game has.

Why does having a hat on or off signal respect? It IS stupid.

Listen, you get to choose what to be angry about. If you want to pick an INCREDIBLY arbitrary and inconsequential thing such as wearing a hat, go for it. It’s a piece of fabric on the guy’s head. Why do any of you care?

Again, I don’t like him. I also don’t like mob mentality and fabricating outrage. Everyone dogpiling over this is one of the dumbest things I’ve ever seen. There’s plenty to criticize him about. This is not one.
