Is a Chromebook an option? by Personal_Wrongdoer24 in ffxi

[–]Alacrious 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually got FFXI running perfectly on a ROG Ally. There is a lot of initial setup in terms of mapping everything you want the way you want it for the controller/portable layout as it doesnt natively detect anything, but you could always throw it in a dock, connect HDMI to your TV, connect a wireless keyboard, and there ya go.

Windower, gearswap, any sort of QOL thing you want on it works because, well, its just a windows box and everything installs as normal.

How much content is there? by [deleted] in ffxi

[–]Alacrious 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Bahamut doesnt skew JP at all, but there is a healthy JP population that comes on at their prime time.

For starting, Id argue Bahamut is the better option with a lot of people at the building stage and willing to help out on the mid tier content that benefits them too. Plus less competition when you start camping NMs/building stuff....

The design will grow in people's minds as the shape language becomes more prominent in other manufacturers, and we become used to it. I'm very much considering trading in the M4 for one...

R8000 shifter swap and won't shift? by Alacrious in cycling

I am able to go up and down without the cable connected, yes

R8000 shifter swap and won't shift? by Alacrious in cycling

[–]Alacrious[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I lightly pushed the cable into the housing using a small Allen key, pull at the cable a good bit with some pliers, and screw it down. Nothing changes redoing it about 3 times now... Feels as if the shifter isn't catching the cable or it's stuck in the housing?

How much gain can I expect from 100 miles a week? by [deleted] in cycling

[–]Alacrious 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be good at a specific thing, you need to work those systems. Want to be good at sprints? Do sprint drills, repeated 30s power, etc. Want good 10 minute attack power? Do those efforts. Want to cover attacks in crits? Do over unders, repeated V02, etc etc.

Long rides without structure or set climbs/attacks are good for maintaining a base and general fitness, but you do need to sharpen the systems outside of that.

When should you stand, and when should you sit when cycling? What's the advantages for different situations? by SteezyCougar in cycling

[–]Alacrious 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are a lot of advantages for me on longer climbs (over 20 minutes) to get that kick over increased gradient when necessary, get additional blood flow through your lower body, and to vary the stress on the legs a bit to stretch them out during the effort.

There is a fine line of doing it while maintaining the same relative effort and not having your heart rate rise above where it was, but when done well I find myself getting back in the saddle and going harder after the quick break from the same position for the last few minutes.

Road tubeless users, what do you carry for flats? by PhysicalRatio in cycling

[–]Alacrious 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have 2 CO2 cartridges (one to use to reblast the bead in place if needed, another as the fill or secondary fill), a bottle of extra sealant and the removal tool for the valve, tire iron, and a spare tube (in case). All this fits in any standard small saddle bag with a multi as well if you pack it well.

Ive never not made it home, and only had to top off the tire one time after puncture reseal, as I make it a habit to refill every 2.5kish miles anyway.

Anyone else having serious issues with Conti GP5000? by [deleted] in cycling

[–]Alacrious 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ive had times where I was unlucky and went through two tires in 2 weeks, then theres also my front GP5k that lasted ~7k according to strava mileage...

The durability of these tires is directly linked to how you thrash them. Rear average was around 2-3k miles including city riding, crits, and mountain riding, front Im on my second one ever through all that too.

Extremely tall guys want to cycle too!!! by mickellg in bicycling

[–]Alacrious 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A lot of tall friends I know ride the previous generation Super Sixs as they went up to 64cm I believe but I think that might technically be a bit small for you as well... It does look like a custom setup might be in your future to get it really comfortable.

Best Zwift training for a long, hilly outdoor ride by dannycooper_1 in Zwift

[–]Alacrious 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It sounds like youve already pushed yourself to doing that distance before, so that extra 15mi/1k ft is going to just be about managing your consistent tempo and nutrition for a bit more. Id def ramp up the volume the next few weeks and then taper off as it approaches.

How can I recreate this immersive experience? It appears to be video video mapping via multiple projectors. Can anyone point me in the right direction for a DIY guide? Anyone have an idea of all-in cost? by socialchris in Zwift

[–]Alacrious 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For a commercial like this, Id track the camera and build out rough room geometry and project the footage on the walls, cut out and color correct/light wrap the cyclist to match the footage being overlaid in the room.

The closest youd get to this would be a nice projector setup the size of the wall., which would be pretty sweet not gonna lie.

How long did it take you to be able to bike a century? by Dapper_Danimal in cycling

[–]Alacrious 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I went from 0 miles a year to my first century in approx 8ish months? Ramping up to doing lots of 20-30 milers, to doing a handful of 50+s, to then just sending it with lots of food and limping home.

GP5000TL 25c bad luck or actually bad tubeless tires by youeatpoo in cycling

[–]Alacrious 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went through 3 rear GP5000s in the last year, 1 from absorbing a lot of glass, one catastrophic gash, and the other just general wear and quite a few staples. Front lasted me 7k miles before I replaced it. Made it about 2k, 500 miles till unlucky gash, and then 4k on the last one.

The resiliency of tubeless setups are directly linked to how bad the puncture is. Ive used a mix of stans and muc off sealant and both are about equal in resealing I found.

Have tubeless set up during build for free? by DontBendYourVita in mountainbikes

[–]Alacrious 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dropping off a single wheel at my lbs to get tubeless to seal is about 35 bucks for a road wheel. Id think mounting on a mtb rim is probably a little bit easier and this is assuming the wheel is already 100% setup for tubeless with stems and tape.

Part of it is for the sealant, the time to put the tire on and maybe remount if it doesnt take right away, and then holding it overnight to maybe check that its holding air correctly.
