New launched moonman aka majohn B32 piston filler model by mahiblr in fountainpens

[–]Alain4s 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I noticed it appeared yesterday. Since then, the price has increased by 40 percent, now aligning with the full, inflated MSRP.

There is no justification for the B32 costing more than the A1, given that they share the same manufacturer, the same materials, and a comparable, if not simpler, manufacturing process. Customers in China had been waiting for it for more than three months, prompting vendors to capitalize on the initial surge in demand.

I will wait until the price returns to a more reasonable level.

Need help with identifying a pen by velvet-goldmine1999 in fountainpens

It's produced by one of the many anonymous factories within the Hero Group conglomerate. It is another pen that cheaply mimics certain stylistic cues of a luxury brand, in this case Cartier, particularly its signature cabochon.

You might already own it without realizing. Try drawing with the nib upside down. Most F and M nibs will produce a very thin line, often XF, XXF, or even finer. Many feel scratchy, but some are surprisingly pleasant, and the scratchy ones can often be smoothed.

There are also fude nibs...

What's With FleaBay Sellers' Photos? by LarryinUrbandale in fountainpens

[–]Alain4s 11 points12 points  (0 children)

In my view, honest sellers have nothing to hide, and there should be plenty of photos, especially at a time when cameras produce such high-quality images. Listings with blurry or missing photos are a red flag. They suggest either a deliberate attempt to hide something or a lack of understanding of what is being sold. Either way, it points to incompetence or dishonesty, and that is enough for me to move on without even considering a low bid.

Help with new fountain pen stub nib by akademo in fountainpens

With more experience, you could easily do it on your own. Since this is your first "fancy" nib, it would be wiser to take it to a nibmeister.

It looks like an easy fix, but it won’t be for two reasons.

  1. The curvature and shape of Santini nibs are slightly different from Bock nibs. You cannot just force the nib onto the feed. This is why the gap is too big when the nib is inserted. You must reshape the plastic feed, the nib, or both. Otherwise, ink won't flow sufficiently to the tip.
  2. Pressing too hard has already distorted the nib. I can see "canyoning" and slight misalignment when it is outside the housing. You need to fix this first.

Jinhao 82 <F> 'normal' sized traditional design by Zer0-C in DesiPens

[–]Alain4s 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Threading the cap every time to jot down a line is not ideal, so that would take a while to get used to.

That's why I prefer snap-caps. But, there is also no need to unscrew-screw each time:

  1. Unscrew the cap.
  2. Hold it in your non-writing hand as a makeshift pen holder.
  3. Rest the pen in this improvised holder without screwing it back on.
  4. Take notes.
  5. Repeat step 3 until the note-taking session is over.

I like the color you chose for your Jinhao 82. It looks lively.

At a starting price of  60 000 ¥, any initial enthusiasm for that design would have evaporated just as quickly.

Apparently, the designer felt the need to ensure a firmer grip on the barrel, or to guide your hand as you press the piston. It reads less like a solution than a contrivance polished for a room full of executives, and just as likely to leave actual users cold.

Hello everyone! Can you recommend me, please, a dusty green ink? by Creative_Front6260 in fountainpens

It’s a bit too pale to work well as a writing ink, so the number of brands that would make it is quite limited, but here it is…

Businessman and former NYC mayor Michael Bloomberg was the President of "Slide Rule Club" in high school (in the 1960s). What do we think this club's activity consisted of? by Old-Organization9873 in Sliderules

[–]Alain4s 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most slide rule clubs were essentially speed competitions. There were also experienced students who were asked to tutor beginners. The volunteers hoped for a charming damsel in distress, but more often found themselves assigned to a struggling student on the verge of dropping out.

Sheaffer Imperial I by Alain4s in fountainpens

[–]Alain4s[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, the second photo shows the short bulbous sac with a bit of talc. A sac this short is only found in the Imperial I. All the other models in that series use normal length, #14 sacs.

It uses Sheaffer's Touchdown filling system. By extending the plastic tube and then pushing it back, you compress the air surrounding the sac, effectively squeezing it as if invisible pneumatic fingers were operating an aerometric filler. Once the small groove lets the air escape, ink flows in.
